Not a rangers specific post but I want to know what people made of what kris Boyd said about Scottish youth being let down by unimaginative coaching. Also about how football is a middle class sport and most kids are being priced out. I know a lot of people don’t like kris Boyd so this isn’t a post about him as a person it’s about the subject he is talking about.

He makes some decent points then ruins it by over charging for his own academy in October!

Sports for kids should be free or at the very least non profit.

If you are a single parent on low income then kids clubs (not just football) is unaffordable.

My son no longer plays football, but when he did I was speaking to a young mum and she said she was thinking about stopping bringing her son, when I asked why, she said because her other son also wanted to come.

The training was only £2 per session. But that’s £8 per week plus games at the weekend, plus kit, snacks, travel etc. Unfortunately this was unaffordable to someone on low income.

It’s such a shame as kids are encouraged not to play on the streets and some schools even forbid ball games in the play ground.

I think he is right in saying it will only get worse as the pool of talent shortens. It will take something drastic like introducing a foreigner rule to improve the quality of the national squad and tbh it would probably be a good thing at the moment as the standard of foreigner we are able to attract to Scotland is quite poor at the moment.

Hit the nail on the head zikos, had the argument not so long ago when a neighbour removed a ball from kids playing on grass square infornt of my house, I gave them a ball I had in the garage and told them to carry on and him to wind it in. Police came to the door later that night 😂 they got told same as him, sign up later in the week. no ball games.

@J-Zer that’s pretty poor especially being backed up by the Police. Think the schools are going the same way.

Was speaking to a friend at the weekend and his kids aren’t allowed to play football in the playground. Hopefully their school is a one off but it’s definitely not as simple as it used to be, going down the park and getting a game of 10-21 with all your mates.

What a lot of tosh. Football cost nothing get a spare bit of ground and 2 jumpers. Yes there was times when we got moved on but u just found somewhere else to play. The problem is The talent is there but its coached out of our young boys. U15,U16,u17,u18 all do really well but very few every make it past that.
A friend of mine runs an u16 team he had 2 players that where fantastic very skillful Roma, Barcelona ect where sending scouts to watch them.
They got signed to that SFA advanced soccer school. When they came back they where bang average. Scared to take players on ect. They learnt more about fitness and nutrition than football.

I was lucky enough to get to a level of junior football. My early footballing was pro youth. I recently took in a couple of pro youth games and the standard was shocking. No first touch couldn't control the ball scared to make a mistake and most worrying I seen a couple of players that wanted to dribble with the ball and their coaches where shouting at them to pass the ball and stop trying to be Billy big balls. Instantly the boys heads went down. Its shocking.

@Stewartyblue, football may cost nothing to practise on spare ground if you have the desire to but you can’t play for any sort of recognised club unless you pay.

My point was only regarding the cost of football. But I get your point regarding the coaching. It echoes what Boyd was saying about coaching young boys to be robots. All coached the same way.

What always amazes me is we are below the standard of so many Baltic, Scandinavian and Eastern Nations where football isn’t the national sport.

My view is we do over coach players. I was a Dundee United pro youth and then rangers pro youth when I was younger and compared to boys clubs the pro youth teams focused more on fitness and things not to do. Nothing about expressing yourself. I’m not a tall guy 5 ft 6 and I was essentially told I wouldn’t make it based not on talent but on physical stature. Our nation seems to coach any spark our youngsters have out of them. I understand Boyd has a football school in October and is charging a fortune but my want for this discussion wasn’t about Boyd but all about how we improve as a nation. I also feel the league should have a minimum requirement for home grown players.

I can answer that ziko to many distractions playstation, YouTube, a million TV channels and parents fearful of letting their child outside unsupervised. Most of the above countries have high levels of true poverty. This results in kids having to make their own entertainment, which is normally arranging games of footbal. Also better weather has a part to play.

Think the days of the 2 a side and a keeper, 10 21ers and the big sidey or a game of 2 touch are gone for good. Plus most of the football parks are gone have been replaced with these astro truff crap that cost a fortune and kids are not allowed anywhere near them unless there parents are paying for them.

The advent of pro-youth was bad for Scottish football. Taking kids of 9/ 10 to sign for a "big team" - only to be released a year or 2 later - usually in tears. Kids should develop with their boys club, which is in a competitive environment until they are say 15. At that point they can then sign for the big teams. Pro youth does not even do games on a competitive basis until they are older.

I agree having played for pro youth and boys clubs I had a better time and learning experience at the boys clubs. You were pushed to express yourself on the pitch whereas boys clubs was more suppressive.

Standards behaviour from the police. Absolutely no use when they are needed, bully boy behaviour when it comes to kids.
