Europa League - Distraction or Aspiration?
At what point do we cut our losses and run?
Is it just all about the money?
Surely we shouldn't look at ourselves as a cheap Europa League wh?
Just there to get pumped on a regular basis ( remind you of anyone in the CL? ) .
Aspirations
A club our size and stature needs to be there.
It's a chance to build experience before our return to the biggest stage - the CL ( #55 )!
A chance for the players to test themselves against a higher standard of player.
A chance for the players to put themselves in the shop window?
A reward for the fans - there's nothing quite like a European night at Ibrox.
That tingle down the spine at work on the Thursday in anticipation of the game that night!
Distractions.
Playing Thursday then Sunday can be detrimental to our league form.
After all it is our bread and butter.
Stopping 9IAR is the be all and end all to some.
Injuries. Squad rotation!
The current off-field issues with UEFA which won't disappear overnight.
Do we therefore twist? Or do we fold?
To concentrate on the greatest prize of all? #55, and another league title for the Famous Glasgow Rangers!
My opinion - we've built a squad and have a playing style that's equipped to deal with both in the short term.
Obviously due to the format of the Europa League, if we make it out the groups we will come up against some decent sides at one point.
Until then, let's just enjoy the ride.

Ltsgo55, my own opinion is that Glasgow Rangers should always be aiming to be the best we can be at the very highest level. We have to grow in stature in this way, the SPL Title will not get the Cub recognised abroad, participating in European Competition on a regular basis will, and will also produce Funds way in excess of anything we will ever earn in the SPL.

We will then be able to attract a better quality of player who won't see it as a come down to play here if they are going to be pitting their wits against Europe's cream players every season, and as a consequence, we will be winning our own league regularly to guarantee CL football every season.

@paul86 - it’s in the context that some people are fearful we will fall further behind.
Should we therefore forget about Europe or not?
I don’t think so. No point in building a squad is there?

We should most importantly look to compete in every match we play in Europe. Last season we did that but fell just short. Therefore this season i'd like to see us go one better as I believe the squad is stronger.
Would be good to get through the groups and then anything after that is a bonus.

irvger - - I think if we won the league this year after what we have been tnrough the last 6 years - it WOULD be noticed in Europe.
SG has bigger fish to fry though and showing he has the competency to play in Europe will help him in the long run to get the job he wants.

I (unfortunately) think the 2nd option is the way SG will go this year.

Gerard may want the Liverpool job, but if you look at their forums, Liverpool fans don't want him.

When have we been pumped in Europe? We’ve only lost one game since Gerrard came in.

Gerrard will NOT get the Liverpool job if he isn't a success at Rangers.
Why would they? There is plenty of high profile successful managers out there. Sentiment doesn't come into it at the top level of football. 👍.

we need european money to pay for players we need to compete in EU and at home. we also need the attraction of EU football to attract the right players. so to me the both are intrinsically linked and need both. we need the revenue just to survive but we need the players to compete.
