I cannot believe some of you think Goldson is as bad as Katic. Yeah he's been poor at times, but he's generally been great for us and well worth the money. Let's get a sense of perspective here, as if he was a faultless defender we'd never have got him.

Katic on the other hand is just woeful. I've posted on here time and time again about him. He makes everyone around him nervous, especially Goldson. He's as committed a player as there is, but his positioning, passing and general ability are all terrible.

He wasn't the only one who played badly at the weekend, but he was by far the worst.

Regarding formation, I hope now SG can see that 2 up top at times is necessary. Or at least getting it up top quickly and not always trying to play through the defence. There is equal merit in scoring from a punt up the park, winning a knock down and scoring a crappy goal. In fact, we reached a Uefa cup final not so long ago by frequently going long and completely bypassing the midfield. There were games where every single goal kick and most balls from defence went long and wide to McCulloch to win a knock down or at worst, gain yards up the pitch. Ugly, but effective. Better I say than easy on the eye and losing. Different approaches for different opposition, and crucially at this time of year, for different weather conditions.

glasgowrangersgooner absolute tosh goldson is weak, can't turn, too slow caught on the back foot too often, as for punting the ball upfield as i said on previous posts i thought we got rid of that when ally left, that's the only tactic he knew, goldson and katic are bad defenders end of, edmunson should have replaced katic at half time, gerrard should know when players need changing but he is stubborn and will always pick his favourites.

I can’t see what sacking SG would accomplish. If a new guy came in and wasn’t top of the league for end of August some people would want him sacked. Anybody that says they can’t see improvement under SG couldn’t have been to many games before he came.

I agree with Glasgowrangersgooner,
goldson is miles better than katic and i agree without a doubt about the way you describe katic's erratic play. Like yourself Glasgowrangersgooner, i also have said this many times on these pages.
Although big filip helander lacks pace, i do think him and goldson are easily our best centre half pairing.
I also rate big edmundson and think he'll be a very good player for us.
Katic for me is the worst centre half of the four, no doubt about it!

He will never go two up front or more direct. He has a system he will not deviate from no matter what anyone says.

Mentioning McCulloch gets me thinking. Folk saying Murphy, Docherty were let out on loan because they aren’t good enough, but guys like Jig, Broadfoot, Boyd, Whittaker weren’t world beaters, Smith brought them in because they knew what it meant to play for Rangers, they knew anything other than 3 points every game was unacceptable. Murphy and Docherty would be giving more than Kent and Kamara for me. The latter two might be more talented but the former two are still easily good enough to play in the SPL and understand what is required. More Scots needed in the team.

Goldson is a bag full of mistakes. don't rate him at all. Not since him and worrals horror show at dundee last season or spartak away cannot remember which one was 1st.

If you check the facts big goldson never ever injured so why did he only play 4 times for Brighton in the premier league and 2 of them were 4.0 drubbings. Coops again you change your mind as this was the new Ferdinand and Vidic. Your now saying helander yet not so long ago you said that Beale said edmondson was the best centre half at the club.

i feel that rangers are not direct enough most balls especially from Ryan Kent seem to go across the park, instead of going down the wings. Rangers need to play two strikers against these teams when morelos goes out on the wing there does not seem anybody making beeline for six yard box. While rangers control the ball it allows opposition to pack the penalty box and harder to score. quicker passing the ball forward.

The defending was awful on Sunday, i had a feeling that they would score.
