Had an outburst about our smoking gun, and so hope its turning against my view.

Have just watched euro 96 n hated the game against England. My view is, we were unlucky. And we had a geordie gem who scored a 2nd goal that anyone of us would be proud of.

But got me thinking. Why Scotland are so bad. And i think it comes down to the spfl/ sfa that players don't bust there balls for our land due to the owners of Scottish football.

Just my thought. What do my best family think?

Ps. No tims required.

Mainly because Scotland doesn’t produce good football players anymore, the Europeans play a different game than any coached here, that’s why, and this will upset a few, both old firm clubs won European trophies, Celtic in particular, had it pretty easy, Rangers wasn’t to be fair, but at that time both clubs were among the very best in Europe, I well remember Wednesday nights in Glasgow city centre heading back from ibrox to maryhill and coming across Tim’s after 2 massive games in Europe, great days but different game altogether now, Scottish football is posh, simple really.

Interesting post Tomtom12. The dark side bang on about Celtic's European Cup-winning team being all Scottish but so was the Rangers team who won in 1972 in Barcelona, i. e.

McCloy, Jardine, Mathieson, Greig, Johnstone, Smith; McLean, Conn, Stein, MacDonald, Johnston.

touché!

The days of “No Tim’s Required “ are gone forever.
The beginning of the downward spiral for the Scottish National team came when Rangers started bank rolling Graeme Souness in the 80s.
Scottish football went to a higher level with most signings coming from outside Scotland which was detrimental to our younger Scottish players.
Within 10 years there was more non- Scottish players playing in our top division and that is when the results for our Scottish National team started to decline considerably.

What a lot of rubbish Leon!
In the late 70's, early 80's the top Scottish players were already starting to play for the top clubs down South.
Well before Souness cane along. He just happened to do it in reverse. 👍.

Correct Mr Tupacman. Great Scots playing at the highest level in English football during 70s and 80s included:

Kenny Dalglish, Peter Lorimer, Eddie Gray, Billy Bremner, Joe Jordan, Archie Gemmill, Eddie McCreadie, Willie Donachie, Charlie Cook, Graeme Sharp, Andy Gray, John Robertson, Graeme Souness, Alan Hansen, Martin Buchan, Lou Macari, Gordon McQueen, Gordon Strachan, Christian Dailly, etc, etc, etc.

Need I go on? Yes, Souness turned it round and brought the like of Butcher, Wood and Wilkins to Ibrox. I think the unwashed should look in the mirror as to how many non-Scots they have signed over the last 20 odd years before casting aspersions.

Think about what you are saying.
The best players were already down in the English top division, so Scotland were still producing at the youth level and the National team was good.
It was only when the other Scottish clubs followed Rangers lead into the non- Scottish market in the mid 80s and 90s, the Scottish National team was doomed.
It was the beginning of the downward spiral because the young Scottish players stopped getting a chance because the league was full of non- Scottish players.

What you are saying doesn’t make sense.
Top Scottish players playing in a better league is going to help the National team.
But filling the Scottish top division with non- Scottish players stopped our young Scottish players from progressing. Which then turned out to be harmful to our National game.

Buzz as usual you are talking nonsense. the demise of the good scottish players was because football was taken off the school curriculum. if there were good scottish players do you really believe rangers and celtic wouldn't give them game time. the standard wasnt there as there was no football getting kicked on the streets with councils putting "no ball games" signs on every spare piece of grass out.
