I grew up in an era where physical challenges were tough but very few long term injuries. Okay the Durrant one was bad and today we have top class physios and medics but what's up with the likes of Jack and Tavernier for example? Been out for an age with a muscle strain or something. Don't get what's changed.

I see your point kfraser. Tbh I think players in the past would play through injuries. I've done it myself. Eventually you usually play yourself fit with a minor niggle. Players today tend to pull out if they feel a twinge.

The amount of players who constantly took pain killing injections in the past wouldn't happen today. There's probably some charity set up against player cruelty nowadays frowning upon these injections. Probably quite rightly so as it's probably not the best idea for long term health and fitness.

there are also employer liability and insurance coverage concerns these days.

I don’t blame players for refusing injections to play, anyone who remembers Alan McGraw who played in the 60s the man ended up with walking sticks because he took them.

Jaws. Colin Stein was another. Not as bad as McGraw right enough. X-ray pictures of big Colin's legs should be x-rated!

TT what’s your opinion on this as it would be interesting to know as you played the game professionally.

Today's players are trained to a far higher level of fitness and athleticism. The tighter you tune a string the more likely it is to snap.

Can’t compare mate everything from science to footballs is very different from then

I knew players who couldn’t cross the ball into the box because they didn’t have any strength left after running half the pitch

At me level most was about brute strength.
