The full point of football ( and all sports ) is the competition aspects to achieve goals / aspirations to be the best sportsman / team possible.
The new Super League is a closed shop for the founding members where no relegation or need to qualify for the tournament makes a mockery of the full concept of competitive sport.
UEFA aren't squeaky clean in all this as they've pandered to the big clubs over the years by expanding the CL to suit their needs without a thought for other member clubs.
FIFA also have a cheek considering they awarded a World Cup to Quatar.
But the issue is the greed of these clubs. They have suffered huge financial losses during the C.V.. But whose fault is that? They are the ones paying out huge wages to players.
They still want to play in their domestic league. But they will each get £300 million for signing up and will be able to hoover up even more of the best players available making these leagues even less competitive than they already are.
We have a side currently 16th in the English Championship who have won more European Cups than Arsenal, Spurs, Athletic Madrid and Chelsea put together. But because some of these clubs now have foreign money behind them they consider themselves "huge" clubs.
Perez, Real Madrid Chairman, is quoted as saying that fan money isn't that important any more and TV money is the way forward.
Apparently as well these clubs have a few billion of debt but only £200 million is owed to the Billionaire owners. Surely these owners could cover the current losses?
Where does this leave clubs like Rangers, Ajax, Benfica etc who are huge clubs in their own countries? Even PSG and the German clubs with Perez saying they haven't been invited?
Interesting times ahead for the sport we all love.

5 clubs each year can qualify so technically not a closed book.

Uefa done the same with giving me 3/ 4 teams from each of the top leagues and making it harder for teams like rangers Celtic and other smaller nations harder to get there.
There new format is even worse I have no sympathy for uefa at all and I think them moaning about this is hypocrisy at its finest.

It sickens me. I believe good things can come from this for others such as rangers as i do not tink it will go ahead. If it does go ahead i'm sure epl would want the old firm to join their new british concept . If we were too i'd only do it if it were to significantly improve our finances. Or should we tell them we were not considered before but now u need us u can ram your offer 🤔🤔🤔.

Good article from David Baddiel in the Guardian on the subject.

If the 5 clubs that qualify finish in the top 5 of the Super League, they would still be relegated back out as the other 15 are member clubs.
So technically it is a closed shop.
And as I stated, KJA91, UEFA and FIFA are hypocritical for calling them out with their past shenanigans.
But when you hear Perez scaremongering by saying football will cease to exist if it doesn't happen then it's totally wrong. IMHO.

@kja he said it was a closed book for the founding members because they cannot be relegated.
The irony of the big corporations accusing breakaway clubs of greed isn't lost on me though.

Proposed ESL would sink all smaller countries like ourselves, regardless of how big a club we are.
Benfica, Ajax would be in same boat as us, 5 teams a year get to join, won’t be us regardless, teams like PSG, Bayern, Zenit etc would qualify most years.
Football is about supporting your team and following them, it is also that any team on any given day can win a match, a trophy, promotion etc. This format wilth no relegation for founding members is a mockery of competition. They want to protect themselves and think they are perfect in this. True perfection needs to be imperfect to be enjoyed and the ESL is not the answer.
Relegate them all now, and see how they react.
