Interesting topic / debate regarding who the number 1 is. I see Boyd and Miller are also advocating McGregor to be number 1, I tend to agree with both. Now I know he doesn't come much for crosses but our defence is much more reassured and composed with his presence, he is constantly yelling and organising them, something I think McLaughlin lacks.

As for the distribution argument, McLaughin was very poor and did not look composed at all against Kilmarnock infact he put us under pressure a few times. He is no better than McGregor I feel in this area.

Now shot stopping there is no argument here, McGregor is world class in this department.

Some people have said that last season proved McGregor was past it. Well to that I say getting to the europa league final thanks to many world class saves from McGregor against world class opposition proves he is far from past it.

Verdict, McGregor number 1.

Big game tomorrow lads, let's hope Gio and the medical team have got Kent fit. Big games require big players.

Jeff I would say the defence is less assured because of the personnel changes at lb and cb were missing bassey atm but once we settle it'll be fine.

I wouldn't expect Boyd or Miller not to stick up for their mate.
And McGregor NEVER comes for crosses!
McLaughlin distribution against Livi - 86% accurate
McLaughlin distribution against Kilie - 79% accurate
McGregor distribution average last season in the SPFL - 76%
McGregor distribution average in the EL last season - 65%
And to be Rangers Number 1, McGregor has to be at it not just in Europe but for the full season. And unfortunately he cost us points ( and the title? ) in a few matches last season with uncharacteristic errors.
A wonderful servant but Father Time has caught up with him.
Verdict - McLaughlin number 1.

Using two of McGregors mates as a reason why he should be number one is stupid.

You mentioned the Europa League run, we would’ve been knocked out of that due to 2 McGregor mistakes if VAR wasn’t available in the game v Red Star.

After last season it simply had to be McLaughlin or a new goalie, given it’s now august I don’t think we’ll see a new one.

McLaughlin is an accomplished, capable GK. McGregor is also still capable, we have seen disruption in the defensive areas as much as the forward areas (hence nearly forty crosses before a goal scored) they’ll find a rhythm, CL qualifier aside the boys have done the business and secured 6/ 6 in the league.

I have confidence that Gio knows what he’s doing, the footballing standard will improve and the team will gel, I am also confident of a reverse tomorrow.

Taking the above as gospel, there has never been a goalscorer like Ally McCoist! His finishing was brilliant, his positional sense amazing. Should we play him as well?

Time has caught up with Allan McGregor. He has been a world class keeper for us, possibly second only to the Goalie himself but his time as a first pick has come and gone in my opinion.

All coaching staff are wrong then, mcgregor said himself he would be a back up keeper as he couldn't continue to play week in week out as shoulder or his hands are causing him serious issues.

Mcgreggor should have twisted in a high either after winning 55 or after Europa final

And I also think we should have purchased a new younger keeper McLaughlin isn’t goi g to be one of our greats unfortunately and he’s no way near it
One thing our team has alawaya had and well k own for is a class keeper
McLaughlin doesn’t fit that bill

A new keeper should have been signed I think we missed a trick with one or two that left there clubs for free or cheap transfers
I personally think our keeper problem will cost us points this season just saying.

Im all for gregs to be no 1 GK but we won't all agree till our temp GK mucks up big time and then itl be too late when Gio eventually changes it.

Boyd and Miller choosing McGregor as No1 is based on the old pals act and them comparing McGregor at his consistent best a couple of years ago. They have no idea how he is training and how fit he is . As for the kicking argument, McGregor consistently kicks the ball out of play or aimlessly down the middle whereas McLaughlin is calmer with the ball at his feet but needs to keep his concentration . I don`t know who I would pick but trust that the manager knows better than managerial failure Miller and rent a mouth Boyd.

Facts don’t come into it when peepols minds are already made up and they won’t be changed for anything.

Would be interesting to see if AM’s stats were similar over the past few seasons or if they suggest a decline with age.

Tom, I gave up debating with you a good while ago during your mr nasty period but fyi, not trying to make a fool out of anyone.

Simply trying to understand why some folk repeat the same old opinions no matter what the facts actually prove.

Bit like the world is flat brigade - it’s their opinion yet everyone else understands that the facts disprove their theory and there leaves them looking mighty bonkers.

I’m please to hear that you think AM is the better keeper but don’t know if he is fit enough to ply much this season.
