Great run once more in Europe - punched above our weight but the usual defensive frailties cost us once more- and not just Europe for note! .
We could have written it on piece of paper who would get hurt/ injured and want off the pitch - we could also have forecast the usual lackadaisical marking and defensive errors which has been our downfall for too long this year and many a year.
Hopefully the 49rs eyes were on these faults and now is the time to make MAJOR defensive changes.
Those who were crying out on here yesterday to give big Balogun another contract should look away - we need and have to find players who can and will last 90 mins or more and play numerous games on the trot for us and not be bit part players. Balogun 10 years ago yes - but today his body cannot do what his mind says - fact.
One right back who's time is long gone, cannot mark cannot move towards a player without fear of getting ripped and constantly ball watches and allows players to ghost in behind (carbon copy of many goals have we seen this way? ) and one left back who does have the pace but backtracks constantly allowing attackers into the 18 yard box and beyond - it was plain to see that we needed to get to their wide men asap but we looked timid and scared - this will not do! Their backs shut us down quickly as soon as we threatened - therein lies the difference in defending properly.
Balogun/ Ridvan/ Tavernier/ Propper - time is up lads - thanks but please move on!
Souttar caught for penalty and the ripped off jersey for Dessers shows the tale of the two sides as penalties go- better team won and deserved it but this should and must be the ultimate catalyst for major change on and off the park (especially in defensive areas) - I want a physical team full of fit and able players for start of next season - no matter how tough that is to achieve. Come on consortium we need you asap!

Totally agree with all that you said Blue-Floyd. If we don't sell, then build a team round Dio, Raskin and Igamane. Keep the likes of Nsiala, Barron as still young with potential. Maybe keep Kelly, Souttar as good squad players. The rest need to go, your Ridvan, Hagi, Propper, Danillo.

If we keep the Williams boys quite tonight we could sneak it ?but Tavs needs to be on top form as there will more "Maeda type" forays on his side of the park - another night for viewing from behind the couch I feel?.

Whatever system we play Sterling has to be at right back tonight to counter Williams. I think we'll start with 3 at the back and Tav playing as right wing back . I hope too that we play Balogun in Souttars place as the central one . I think it suits him better than it does Propper.

Well lads - there is definitely NO DEFENCE for OUR DEFENCE yet again!
We cannot and will not challenge next season if the same culprits turn out in back four and we give cheap goals away constantly
Ridvan tracking back last night was atrocious (should have been hooked after 20mins) s and the inability to do basics like get to the attacker quicker and close down space is basically lost on most of our defenders.
The defending is schoolboy to say the least and every corner against us gives me the fear. Barry says he needs to fix this but every manager before him has failed so let's be honest it is the standard of player we have at the back which is and will continue to cost us dearly. Any and I mean any team who goes at us with ball at feet causes problems and for numerous seasons we watch the same old repeats (much like BBC telly. ) and have yet to learn from it.
The defence is in need of major surgery and hopefully new regime will appreciate this and act on it accordingly - Tav is done, Balogun is done (but has heart and desire but not legs now) Souttar ok when fit, Propper looks slow and is easily bullied, Ridvan/ Jefte ok going forward but defending is not part of their DNA and same goes for Tavernier .
It is basics after all - limit teams chances and allow forwards to do business -not really hard to work out ?- no real point of creating loads chances - scoring 4 but yes should have been more and defending like schoolboys.
FGS this need sorted and Barry just shouting at them just doesn't cut it for me - several new faces need at the back or prepare for more of the same next season IMHO!

Yilmaz on his game is a far better player than Jefte right now, Butland needs replaced and a lcb signed can't see us getting a better rcb than John Souttar he is best cb in Scotland in my eyes.

Both Yilmaz and Jefte are more than good enough to play for us, but both have to be played within the right system.
Personally I think Jefte is better than Yilmaz.

EHL - we don't seem to play a defensive system though? - Its every man for himself and bugger marking anyone or even trying to get close to the attacker - which in itself helps?.

Blue-Floyd - I agree, our squad is a mishmash of players suited to different systems and we any genuine on park leadership.
As a result we rarely control games for any sustained periods and we make it easy for teams to isolate any weaknesses we have.

On a different note - hopefully we are still trying to broker deals for the likes of Lennon Miller of Motherwell and other suitable young players because lbh as soon as any takeover takes place they will get the cheque book out to go for the likes of the same to appease their masses ??.

Agree Lazlo I hope they stick to the exact same process we started this season but add a couple of experienced players in there, OOC if possible and they are the right fit. This expectation that the new owners will come in and instantly spend a lot of money might leave a lot of those same masses disgruntled if it doesn't happen.

I've yet to see Lennon miller stand out at all when we've played Motherwell. Yes we should be looking at all the best domestic talent but at 4m etc I'm not seeing it, I have noticed tenacious guys like Cameron etc during matches but not enough from miller to say he's starting 11 comfortably and that's what a 4m signing needs to be for us.

Miller not really stood out and won games for Motherwell although is very comfortable on ball and should kick on, maybe in a team with better players around him he could go on to be the next big thing, a beginning of season I would of said it was a NO brainier but would have to watch him week in week out to be sure, on the other hand the lad Cameron has been a stand out against us for last two seasons and should be shrewd buy for us.

Personally I think he is going to be the next big star to come out of Scotland as long as he doesn't get shunted into some big EPL teams youth team . He totally controlled the game for Motherwell against us last week as he did at Fir Park in the last game .
I don't know if we can afford him but if we can't he is one that we are going to look at and regret missing out on, in years to come.
If he is willing to come we should be talking to Motherwell now and sorting something out, takeover or not. We don't need to pay the whole fee upfront and we know we will be bringing in money for some of our loanees in the summer.
