Can I ask what people's expectations were for this season?
1.to try and match Celtic in our 4 games and not to be totally dominated by them, get a win against them. Maybe 2.
2. To get rid of high earners
3. Be as close as possible to Celtic by end of year.
4. Decent run in europe.
5. Possibly win a cup.
6. Try not to have another year of crazy financial losses.
I didn't know we would have to cut our entire budget by 30% or have another season of crazy injuries. So in hindsight it would only be fair to lower your expectations, would it not?
1.) 17 Feb 2025 23:42:45
To win the league, nothing else mattered.
2.) 18 Feb 2025 00:29:06
Winning the league is still slightly out of reach Dado, probably be the same next season but we'll get thier soon enough.
3.) 18 Feb 2025 02:44:33
Did you really expect to win league or was it more in hope dado?
4.) 18 feb 2025 02:56:43
without bringing in, nurturing and reslling and repeat we won't have the wherewithal to challenge fully fir a league title with a Celtic side who are cash rich at this moment
we are on the right path, we mustnt panic, we will sell in summer and bring in again, i just hope iggy stays another season but he may well be already bags pa cked,
5.) 18 Feb 2025 04:12:35
Our expectations at glasgow Rangers should always be to win the league and in fact, win everything we're in ???.
6.) 18 Feb 2025 05:11:25
I didn't think we would win the league but I nowhere near did I think the domestic season would be over middle of feb either. We had to win a least one cup IMHO. We also had to put a decent challenge for the league which we haven't. No matter how long we keep PC i just don't believe we ever win a league title with him.
7.) 18 Feb 2025 06:24:25
Expectations were to still in the running of all 3 domestic trophies this early in the year, to be closer to them in the league. To be performing well and showing improvement on and off the park. Not to hand them another domestic treble.
8.) 18 Feb 2025 07:18:46
I did blue boy, I think that's the expectations a lot of fans have when they buy their season tickets / merchandise etc…. If this isn't a target (specifically the number 1 target) then the board need to come out and tell us, this would take a lot of pressure off PC in my opinion. Fans could then direct their frustration at the board. I for one wouldn't be wanting PC sacked if he's hitting his expectations but in my opinion this season has been an absolute disaster and therefore the buck should stop with the manager.
9.) 18 Feb 2025 07:20:05
Last year Celtic had all their wealth and the champions league money yet we were able to be top. I never expect us to win everything but I always expect us to challenge.
10.) 18 feb 2025 07:26:51
i'm sure you are right ulster, unfortunately it hasn't gone as planned in that respect, however we are 180 mins away from the last 8 in europa and we have a squad worth considerably more in monetary value than we ever had, if we sell at correct time and price and we have young players lined up to replace then we are on the planned projectors, business takes time and nurturing along with acumen of when to sell and how to replace, that's what's occurring here, i'm sure clement didn't expect to have 30 shots in any game and not score but that's what football can throw up ay you, i'm also sure he didn't expect the same players who destroyed Celtic and nice to lose to kilmarnock but again, young players will always give you these issues, we must stick with it, or we crumble imo.
11.) 18 Feb 2025 07:27:25
Expect to win league and cup.
12.) 18 Feb 2025 07:30:44
Guys - EXPECTATION is always to win everything we compete in - REALISM is where we currently sit in the food chain and all those years of turmoil and constant change and mis-management has left us languishing behind - football is cyclical and hopefully soon we will see an upturn but as has been mentioned many times on this site - we will only improve on the pitch when real work is done off the pitch and unfortunately this will not be done in a blink of an eye - The big question I ask is should there be change forced by the pitchfork brigade (which I do fear) - how may real managers/ decent men who understand Rangers would want the job to restore us to true glory or merely see us for a decent wage given that the vibe around Rangers at the moment is toxic to say the least - that is the real question and I wish I knew the perfect answer. IMHO In all the years of supporting our great club never have I seen so many players and managers verbally abuse by lowlife - constructive criticism/ voicing opinion I get but venom/ bile or personal insult I detest- unfortunately this is the social media driven world we live in where masses feel it is ok to to spout hatred online or through drink/ drug fuelled bravado - support our great club as one and we will see progress but it will not come at the pace many desire or expect but I do still believe it WILL happen??.
13.) 18 Feb 2025 08:17:10
Storm good post, it's a two team league and we must be aiming to win it, the very least what you said.
We are out everything domestically by February and now we are being told let's wait till next season.
We need a change and a solid spine to the team that can handle the rigors of up here must be a priority.
14.) 18 Feb 2025 08:20:18
Dado why are you so disingenuous? It was mentioned by Clement all through the start of the season how big the rebuild was and how it was the club's priority to massively reduce the wage bill while losing a good chunk of experience and you still needed someone at the club to come out and explain it like you're a child or something? Come on. The lack of any critical thought in large portions of this support is absolutely astounding. Of course we all want to win the league but expectations and reality are 2 different things.
15.) 18 Feb 2025 08:55:23
Good post Tom, I think we need to see the bigger picture rather than react from week to week depending on what the result is. And yes, I've also been guilty of that! As you say, Clement is cutting wages, bringing in saleable assets and hopefillylaying foundations for success. We've played very well at times (against Celtic and in Europe) . If he can find a consistent winning method domestically he will have cracked it.
16.) 18 Feb 2025 11:18:56
Rangers as a business are no different to any other business, You need the right people on board to make it a success, And unfortunately it can take a wee bit of time to show a profit,
Is PC and his team going to be given time to deliver?
?????????.
17.) 18 Feb 2025 14:43:59
Therein lies the problem, cunny. Hope you're well pal and enjoying sunny Oz ????.
17 Feb 2025 14:17:34
Troops keep the noise doon in here or you'll wake auld Ed up ?.
{Ed001's Note - you were right! I did nod off.}
1.) 17 Feb 2025 15:15:41
???.
2.) 17 Feb 2025 15:55:23
Whit ya like Ed? ?.
{Ed001's Note - old and tired mate.}
15 Feb 2025 14:21:51
I asked a question on here a couple of weeks ago, is anyone starting to change there mind on clement? Loads of people said yeah slowly but surely. sunshine was one can't remember the rest but there was loads, because at the time we had danilo fit and were seeing little of flashes of what the manager was trying to do. Fast forward to a defeat against Queens and he's back to being ??.
1.) 15 Feb 2025 15:03:56
I just can't see him being a success here. Love to be proved wrong.
2.) 15 Feb 2025 15:08:08
Thought you were blaming the players all week??.
3.) 15 Feb 2025 15:21:32
To me, the thrashing of Celtic was much more important than the QP cup loss. It showed we can compete with our main rivals, and that gives hope for the future.
4.) 15 Feb 2025 15:29:34
A result like that at our club should sound the alarm bells if it doesn't then your happy with winning nothing while he's here.
5.) 15 Feb 2025 15:40:04
I have had the same opinion since we lost away to Kilmarnock, he should have been sacked then. His inability to work out how to play in Scotland has awarded Celtic another treble.
It has been obvious for months that he is not the man to take us forward. His line ups, tactics, subs and media interviews have made us a laughing stock. I'm more than happy to be provided with any evidence to the contrary. Although I will find it difficult to understand any explaination or excuse as to why we our domestic season is already over.
6.) 15 Feb 2025 15:44:23
The performances at the start of the season were woeful, so I understand why fans are against PC. But when I look at our squad I don't see much in forward areas at all.
That's been our problem all season for me, know we shipped a few goals when we had our usual defensive injury crisis however when I look at most of the dropped points in recent months it's games we should be winning on overall play and chances. We lack the quality to take these chances and I don't see how a new manager changes that.
I also think the manager got shafted in the transfer window, we desperately needed a CH as soon as window opened but they brought in Fernandes when we were getting bodies back. We also let a 10 and a LW leave without replacing either. I get why those 2 players were shipped out but by not replacing the LW the board take responsibility for me, over the manager, for how this season pans out.
What I am afraid of is we will be in the exact same position next season unless another major overhaul is done in the summer. In forward areas we need 4 starters and 4 backups given the number of games we have. The only players we will have in the summer is Hamza, and arguably CD9 (can hardly rely on Dani, who I like tbh) . Other than those 2 we have Cortes, whatever is happening with him. That leaves 5 players to be found in forward areas and to get that to knit all together again.
If I am PS I am keeping PC till then to use as a sacrificial lamb when it goes wrong again, which it most likely will.
7.) 15 Feb 2025 15:47:29
We did look a better side when everyone is fit Danilo was starting to link with igamane bajrami and cerny and build those relationships, that's a given injury does hamper team performance but what I would also say is that we shouldn't be in a place where having Danilo injured means we can't function properly as a team the manager has to take some responsibility for squad depth, yes unfortunately we probably didn't get the targets we had an eye on and we have koppen to do that side of the job but it's been glaring that were light in some areas and have been for some time.
8.) 15 Feb 2025 16:03:05
I think he'll be here till at least the summer.
I don't see him being successful in Scotland, so in the long run, I can see him being replaced.
9.) 15 Feb 2025 16:03:24
I think the team will play well for 3 4 5 matches then throw in a performance like last Sunday or most away matches the spine of our team is too soft few win 50/ 50 and we are easy to. play through at times.
10.) 15 Feb 2025 16:11:14
Most changed their minds when Tav was injured or dropped, Dessers was dropped to the bench, Raskin was captain and we had a front 4 of Danilo, Igamane, Cerny and Hagi.
The result against Celtic gave us hope for the season.
Quickly dampened by draws to Hibs and Dundee.
Europe is a bonus. But Rangers aren't known for being OK for a few games on a Thursday night.
The Queens Park result was the straw that broke the camels back for many.
Nobody wants managers replaced every season. That just tells us we have failed again.
11.) 15 Feb 2025 16:13:04
Bizzmy, beating Celtic means nothing when we struggle against the rest. We will only compete with Celtic when we adapt our tactics and set up so that we beat the rest.
12.) 15 Feb 2025 16:33:04
Fork a can't see pc setting his team up any differently from any other game tactics etc aside, so yeah for me the players do need to take huge responsibility for that. Just my humble opinion tho mate ?.
13.) 15 Feb 2025 17:30:18
Fork i don't think PC would set up any differently, tactics formation aside, so yeah i think the players should take huge responsibility, but pc doesn't get a pass either mate ?.
14.) 15 Feb 2025 17:51:43
It's not just the Queen's Park result why do some fans not understand this?
15.) 15 Feb 2025 18:05:43
That humble u say it twice??? no worries bud?.
16.) 15 Feb 2025 18:25:16
The front 4 with 2 up top was the difference maker. I don't know we went back to playing 4231 with a 10.
17.) 15 Feb 2025 18:49:01
Who doesn't understand it storm? Why can't you understand we wouldn't even be discussing this if it was only Queens, it's not that difficult to work that out mate.
18.) 15 Feb 2025 19:13:32
If? But it isn't only Queens.
19.) 15 Feb 2025 19:14:20
Fork i forget poor Ed needs a break some times, to quick to think it hasn't went through, my bad mate.
Sorry Ed ?.
{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, I nodded off in the middle of watching the footie when I put down the lappy as it was getting a bit warm. Next thing I know, the game I was watching had finished and I had no idea what the score even was as the programme was finishing! I think that is a sign of getting old.}
20.) 15 Feb 2025 20:08:24
It's not just queens BB4, so you obviously don't understand why the majority of fans want rid and have wanted rid before the queens game.
21.) 15 Feb 2025 20:28:19
Can't disagree way much of that mph. Obviously I still back him though.
22.) 15 Feb 2025 20:41:22
Storm and why don't you understand our situation?
23.) 15 Feb 2025 20:50:19
Storm, did you have a problem with Yilmaz lw against Spurs?
24.) 15 Feb 2025 20:56:03
Never just beat Celtic, coldo. Actually destroyed them, nothing in it between the sides on the park. Tactics? Played 4-2-3-1 against them at Ibrox.
25.) 15 Feb 2025 19:59:47
Just don't let it happen again Ed, or there will be consequences old yin ??.
{Ed001's Note - yes boss! It only happens maybe twice a day so don't worry you won't even notice....}
26.) 15 Feb 2025 21:37:40
Storm see the part in the o.p, where i said I asked the question a couple of weeks ago are people starting to change there minds over pc? That question is asked because of the bad results, why else would I ask that question. My bad for not explaining i was talking about bad results, thought maybe people could read between the lines, think most did apart from you. So I'm not just talking about Queens. Please refer me to the post were i said it was only about Queens.
27.) 15 Feb 2025 22:14:37
Ock well Ed, Twice is better thrice ?.
{Ed001's Note - thrice sounds like a plan. I might try that tomorrow.}
14 Feb 2025 13:29:42
Just for discussion nothing to serious.
Hypothetical question, if we manage to do the unthinkable and win the europa, should pc still be sacked?
1.) 14 Feb 2025 14:27:40
Boy blue imo philippe clement won't be sacked at all anytime soon mate ? He'll be given time to rebuild the model we're going with and the board i've no doubt will give him time and i personally think he'll be here at least until the end of next season ?.
2.) 14 Feb 2025 14:33:11
Yes he should still be sacked because the reason he has failed is because of his inability to change tactics domestically. This is why he is tactically inept. Gio and SG had success in europe but failed domestically. The reason is because you can't play the same tactics in Europe and the SPL, both are completely different games. We need to find a manager who understands this and the Scottish game. For the last 6 or 7 seasons we have watched the same story repeat itself over and over with domestic failure and european success. I have said for years that we need to change our tactics and how we set up for our domestic game. I'm astonished that people are just picking up on this now. Its been an issue for years.
3.) 14 Feb 2025 14:34:04
BB4 can't get my head round your Hypothetical question "should he still be sacked". Have I missed an announcement that he is being sacked in the summer.
4.) 14 Feb 2025 14:34:17
No from me
Win the Europa would be some feat ?.
5.) 14 Feb 2025 14:37:11
Sorry I also meant to add that a lot of the players we sign are suited to the European game but are not suited to the Scottish game. We also need to address. For me its really simple where we are going wrong and what we need to do to fix our form in our domestic game.
6.) 14 Feb 2025 14:50:33
What system you using then Red arrows?
7.) 14 feb 2025 14:57:07
if that were to occur there's not a snowballs chance he would be dismissed, blue, not a chance.
8.) 14 Feb 2025 15:04:39
If he wins the Europa league then there should be a statue of him outside the stadium.
9.) 14 Feb 2025 15:07:57
Bluetoon sorry mate I'll rephrase that, would the people that think he should get sacked still think same way, if we won europa?
10.) 14 Feb 2025 15:09:34
Red arrows i don't beleive anyone is just picking up on this now. I think it's common knowledge to set up differently in the league and Europe mate.
11.) 14 Feb 2025 15:11:37
I also believe that swso and I'm right behind him mate.
12.) 14 Feb 2025 15:20:38
I doubt we will win the europa there are some big teams in the competition
I have no idea what people are talking about when they say he will be given time to rebuild the model.
He should be sacked for failing to understand what Scottish football is about
Tactical ineptitude culminating in the worst result in our history so yes I struggle to understand why he wasn't sacked last Sunday evening.
13.) 14 Feb 2025 15:34:43
SWS there is absolutely NO chance he is here until the end of next season. Screenshot away.
14.) 14 Feb 2025 15:43:45
That is the $64,000 question, BB.
I said before the Queens Park defeat he had to win the SC and go on a decent run in the league until the end of the season.
The SC is gone.
But I would gladly accept the unthinkable.
But I'd also greedily demand consistency in the league until the bitter end.
15.) 14 feb 2025 15:48:13
im also right behind him blue, i think he will sell at right time and replace and Rangers will only get stronger imo.
16.) 14 Feb 2025 15:49:50
Well it wouldn't be pc's system that's for sure.
17.) 14 Feb 2025 15:56:53
If he wins he stays. It's result that will decide his future so if he gets good results then all will be on board.
18.) 14 Feb 2025 15:59:19
Don't think that's being greedy at all after what we've been through mph. We can all dream eh mate.
19.) 14 Feb 2025 16:00:12
He wouldn't be sacked if that was the case but I'll flip it what if he is to lose the next 4/ 5 games?
20.) 14 Feb 2025 16:14:40
I hope so tom. Hope your having a better day than yesterday. You and the family have a great weekend ?.
21.) 14 Feb 2025 16:32:44
Gio got us to within literally a kick of ball (be that Kent or Ramsey! ) from winning the Europa League, and that didn't seem to do him much good! Ultimately in our odd little league, success is purely relative. Any manager not winning more than the other side of town will be under pressure, and the bigger the gap in cups/ leagues the more the pressure will be.
Winning the Europa would grant him time, but if he isn't competing for the title next year then I don't think it would be enough on it's own to keep him in a job. What it would do would be guarantee us Champions League football, and that is the only was I can see us getting out of being also rans. We desperately need access tot he ridiculous £££s that comes from the CL (and ideally for them to miss out on it for a few seasons) . Money talks in this game.
22.) 14 Feb 2025 16:21:24
If it's common knowledge, then why does pc persist with the same tactics in Scotland as he does in Europe?
23.) 14 Feb 2025 16:27:12
Stevie I nearly spat my coffee out their mate.
Could you imagine. ???.
24.) 14 Feb 2025 16:56:05
How can you say for definite pick6coaching that clement won't still be Rangers manager even after next season ?The board are clearly backing him and prepared to give him time and i personally hope he can turn it around as like i've continually said, philippe clement ain't a bad manager ?.
25.) 14 feb 2025 17:02:13
thanks bb, i'm kinda used to it but it does affect me when i don't sleep because ., anyway, yeah cheers brother,
26.) 14 Feb 2025 17:07:58
I'm sure all the usual suspects will call for him to be sacked if he wins it, because he 'doesn't know how to beat a low block' domestically. They will also call for him to be sacked when we're knocked out.
27.) 14 Feb 2025 17:42:33
Red arrows or coldo whatever you prefer, if you think he plays the same way in europe as he does in spl then fair enough. We set up high in spl, we definitely don't in europe that would just be silly. You need to be way more defensive minded in europe.
28.) 14 Feb 2025 17:59:21
SWS absolutely NO chance … If you can't see why I can't help you … wait until the next time we drop points or lose to those on a fraction of our budget. He will go because he is absolutely nowhere near good enough. And I don't care what he done in Belgium or another League. I'm only concerned with now and he's miles off. His style of play relies on moments!
You can win playing poorly, you can't win consistently playing poorly and on more than a few occasions even when we have one we've been chronic.
Just wait and see ….
29.) 14 Feb 2025 19:00:24
It will help all the fans go vent there fury at his statue stig ?
In all seriousness though, if he won that trophy while cutting the costs like he had and bringing no signings in January a crazy injury crisis at one stage and the upheaval he endured above him for over a year that would be our biggest achievement as a club imo.
30.) 14 Feb 2025 20:29:17
If the manager of any English club won a European trophy, do you think he would be sacked?
31.) 15 Feb 2025 14:36:05
Roberto di matteo colonel?
13 Feb 2025 16:05:59
What's your thoughts on iggy guys? I get he's still young but do you reckon all the hype is going to his head a bit, understandably so it's been a bit of a whirlwind for him, but we do know he's better than last few games suggest, surely?
1.) 13 Feb 2025 16:17:43
I honestly think he's got the potential to be a superstar for us and then go on to play in a top league. He's so skilful and composed which is a great combination. We should be looking at signing players to complement him and stop playing him so deep to accommodate Dessers. I've been really impressed with him.
2.) 13 Feb 2025 16:36:25
I think his purple patch came for us when he was being played as our no9 / Centre Froward. I think he suffers a bit when we play him with Dessers as he is asked to drop left or deep in to the no10 role.
The guy is young, and has some excellent aspects to his game. He's a livewire, a box of tricks, and can be worth the gate money on his own when he is on it. If he knuckles down I think he could go far.
More recently, I think he's seems to have taken his eye off the ball a bit, been trying a bit too much showboating for my like, and has been a bit sloppy in his play. But given his age, it's hard to know if that's a lack of focus, or just the inconsistencies you'd expect from a guy with so little big game experience.
3.) 13 Feb 2025 16:42:31
Same dado he makes it look so effortless at times mate. He just needs to knuckle down and get his big move, boys got heaps of potential.
4.) 13 Feb 2025 16:57:29
Never thought of that jimbo, it did seem to come then your right, we definitely need to play to his strengths eh mate?
5.) 13 Feb 2025 16:59:18
Spot on Jimbo.
Seems to prefer a nutmeg than an easy final ball to a team mate.
Also think he plays better with Danilo who is more technically gifted than Dessers with better movement.
But unfortunately Danilo is never fit.
6.) 13 Feb 2025 17:12:55
How many times in a season we unwrap a super star, only to wrap him back up to sit on the subs bench within a month or 2 with us disillusioned that he wasn't the super youngster we thought he was.
7.) 13 Feb 2025 17:29:46
He has to be more disciplined too often he wanders about the pitch trying to get involved but he's some talent and should be played as our central striker as much as possible. I'd keep him another season but if a bid of 15m plus comes in the summer he will go.
8.) 13 Feb 2025 17:30:17
Yoursperx, Igamane is very talented player, been off it the last few games but posters above are spot on better as a 9 and is better alongside Danilo, but the talent is there, struggling to remember any player with chest control like him, very fast feet, some force in his shots, great control of a ball, he goes very far in the game.
9.) 13 Feb 2025 17:39:59
Like who yoursperx?
10.) 13 Feb 2025 18:22:26
Very talented player, but simce the EPL interest has seriously dropped off performance wise. Seems to be content with 3 or 4 nutmegs.
11.) 13 Feb 2025 18:59:21
Has a hell of a lot to learn but has so much potential also the boy. But a season where we have been poor we go all out for promise remember Barron for example.
12.) 13 Feb 2025 19:14:37
Not very often I agree with mystar but 100% agree on him with this.
13.) 13 Feb 2025 21:00:43
Any player My Star? Mark Hughes used to bring it down on his chest from a goalies kick out, what a striker he was, vastly underrated, what I'd do for a player like that at us.
14.) 13 feb 2025 21:25:01
he has abundant skill and talent, possibly the colder and wetter weather is affecting him right now but he has to concentrate on team rather than him
he will go on and move on soon enough, we should talk to him about higher wage and keep him happy for a while because he won't see out the next window if we don't take care of him imo.
15.) 13 Feb 2025 21:30:53
He's best played as a 9, since Dessers got a few goals he's been moved to the left to accommodate him, he needs moved back to the middle.

Igamane is class, as others have said, Iggy has been played out of position to accommodate Dessers. Why any manager would want to do that is wild.
Hopefully Iggy can get through it despite the managers best efforts to limit him.

Storm, give john a break. how many days have you been going on about this? Pathetic Storm, honestly! You used to be very vocal about john not sharing info because people calling him out if it's wrong, now look at you going out your way to make the guy look like a liar. Maybe he did get it wrong big deal let it go.

Exactly Tommy gun, then the one's that are greeting for him to go will be the same one's greeting this time next year for the next one to go, because we paid to sack another manager instead of using the funds to strengthen our team and the merry round goes round.

Cool storm you know us boys got your back, no matter how much we might disagree on here mate. It's only football at the end of the day, real life struggles are another matter all together. Keep the head up.

Yeah not sure what's going on with you storm but really hope you get the answers you need mate. As I've posted many times my son is autistic and has a learning disability so I definitely know the struggles, good luck mate.

Trueblue it's all been done under his stewardship wich ultimately affects his job in many ways, or does it nit? We aren't saying he was physically on the phone selling players etc, think you know exactly what we mean.

You are correct basil we did have a bigger budget than them up until this season, we had to slash that by 30% mate show me any buisness that can slash there budget by that and not have problems trying to find it's way again, especially in football.

1.He took a team under gio that was massively under performing and went on an excellent run giving us hope again only to run out of steam.
2.He won a cup, wether people give him credit or not he was manager when we lifted it.
3.He's got rid of most of the high earners, that we all so badly wanted.
4.We've added value to our squad.
5.Getting the best out of nico igamane soutter dessers cerny dio, it needs to be more i know but it's a start
6.Proven he can beat Celtic comfortably.
7. Really good in europe
8. Showing youth he's willing to play them.

Did you really expect to win league or was it more in hope dado?
17 Feb 2025 22:15:57
Correct stig. We aren't getting a new manager the board totally understand what clement has walked into, even if the fans don't. Imo he will be here to at least half way through next season at the very least and if results go our way then longer. If they wanted him gone then after Queens game was the time it would have happened, it didn't that tells me he's going nowhere. The same way ehl pointed out we threw money at it and left ourselves where we are today, same thing can be said about managers, we can't just keep throwing managers at it and hope one sticks, we need to give the manager time to build a squad capable of putting up a challenge.
