***sorry, hit sent before I meant to***
As I was saying, terrible stats. Basically we currently have wingers playing where we actually need inside forwards, players who can contribute and create far more goals. Add to that the fact we play with 3 fairly defensive/ sitting midfielders who also don’t contribute many goals and there is our problem.
Therefore we either need to decide to play a 451 with the two wingers working hard to cover the fullbacks (as they do) but with 1 sitting midfielder and bring in 2 creative/ attacking midfielders to support the striker OR play 433 but with two actual supporting forwards rather than wingers, who are both able to get closer to the main striker and both create and score more themselves. Problem is these type of players don’t come cheap!
I’m not saying Kent may not develop into this type of player but currently although he is great to watch, his decision making and final ball are both poor. And although I do like him for his effort and work rate, Candieas just doesn’t offer enough in that position.

1.) 20 Mar 2019 19:25:02
you are spot on with regards to the team we should play with 2 attacking mid if we play with wingers or play with 1 attacking mid and 2 defence mid and two inside forwards.

Kent is great if you want someone to dribble with ball and do step overs all the time but he lacks end product and same goes for candelias on other side lack of end product from them both.
To move forward we need to add goals to the team and creativity with end product.

2.) 20 Mar 2019 21:29:28
100% agree! Very similar to an earlier post of mine. We need the attacking midfielders to chip in with more goals and they can't do that whilst hugging the touchline or whilst in their own half. We need the attacking midfielder (left and right) to be more central at times offering support to the striker and allow the fullbacks to overlap and create the width which they generally do quite well.

We also need the midfielders to get ahead if the striker at times which they currently very rarely do.

3.) 20 Mar 2019 21:37:29

Good post - anyone in particular you would like to see brought in or anyone good enough you think we could attract to come in to fill the positions
At this minute I have no idea who we are going to bring in during the summer but by listening to gerrard they have players in mind just hope it’s a higher calibre of players then we have currently as we should always be trying to attract a better player than we have to fill any position a current player will lose upon leaving or for competition within what ever area they come in to play for.

I’ve had a few posts that I sound not very optimistic
But I actually do like Morelos he’s a strong player and has been good especially being left up front on his own his work ethic on the park is very good - he has missed a lot of chances but scored well also - he’s young hopefully he gets better if he stays longer at the club and matures

I have no idea what positions Gerrard will be wanting to improve and what players he’s looking at BUT I’m optimistic and hoping and praying we get the players out club needs and deserves to get us a force to be reckoned with again.

4.) 20 Mar 2019 22:24:46
Hi Thestigno1, Who to bring in for those positions really is the question and we can only hope our scouting system is much better than mine! Considering what our budget will be I’m guessing it’ll either mean trying to find younger players from abroad who are untested, problem with that is you don’t know if you’re getting a Morelos or a Grezda (having said that I’m still holding out hope that he may come good next season once he’s more settled, injury free and playing regularly, he’s certainly rated highly by Albania and realistically that’s the kind of markets we’ll be shopping in) . Either that or picking up an older player maybe on loan who’s not getting a game at s bigger club somewhere.
I’m just thinking back to around the Mcleish days when he sometimes played a front 3 consisting of the likes of Arveladze, Prso, Caniga with also the likes of Lovenkrand and Novo playing the wider forward positions.
Unlikely we’ll be able to bring in quality like that though unfortunately!

5.) 20 Mar 2019 23:55:56
Arveladze there’s a name I haven’t heard in long time
Big Prso also what a player he was

Totally agree could be going players untested but older players not getting a game for there club
But look where that has got us so far especially with Defoe
We actually have a great bunch of youngsters at the club already would be good to see them starting to get bedded into the team they could actually make the difference young hungry full of grit and determination

Looking forward to see Polster get his 1st full game and Jones coming in the summer
With hopefully Murphy back to fitness also Kamara looks a bargain
There is definitely some good young talent within the squad I just hope gerrard gives them there chance to impress in the team and see if they can maintain a place in starting line up instead of the players that are playing week in week out letting us down right now
Big McKenna from Aberdeen would be a great addition I think our defence has been pretty awfull lately

Suppose time will tell 👍.

6.) 21 Mar 2019 09:12:49
I think a 442 would appreciate the type of player kent is. We need a goal scoring target man striker. As I said in a previous post, we lack dig and creativity in the centre of midfield and this has to be addressed in the summer. Two cm's that can play a 442 is a must otherwise if we continue with the 433 we will continue to struggle against the better, more organised spl sides. One st play's into the hands of teams who are tight and compact. We are then forced to play wide, hoping that we get lucky from an aimless cross👍.

Everyone’s obviously disappointed with what’s happened over the last few weeks and how things are currently sitting. We were all desperately hoping to win at least a cup this year but considering everything that has happened over the last 6/ 7 years maybe sometimes we can hope for too much too soon. We yet again changed our manager and entire squad over the summer, just as we have done almost every year since starting again. When you look at it that way we’re we really ever honestly expecting to go on and win the league? Yes the cups have been disappointing, no ones arguing that, but we are still growing and developing as a team. Maybe the good start and euro run ended up building expectation too high.

Anyway here is what I feel we need to do going forward. Gerrard is clearly trying to set us up in a similar style and formation to the likes of Liverpool and Man City with the 433 formation, which if played in the right way I believe will work. However here is our current problem: if you look at liverpool’s Front 3 their goals contribution alone so far is 20, 20 and 13 (not sure on assists) Our regular front 3’s stats are as follows. Morelos 29 goals and 6 assists (35 goal contributions in 44 games. Kent 5 goals 7 assists (12 contributions in 38 games) Candieas 6 goals and 6 assists (12 contributions in 48 games) .
Therefore Kent has less the 1 goal contribution ever 3 games and Candieas 1 in every 4 games! They are terrible stats for forward players playing for rangers.

Yet again Gerrard makes the Scottish press look like a bunch of amateurish fuds! For days the press have been falling over themselves to claim Forrest will be recalling Worral. The first time anyone is clever enough to actually ask anyone at Rangers about the situation Gerrard confirms he’ll be here for the rest of the season, end of. Just another example of how journalists get most of their “exclusives” from either social media or the realms of fantasy.

1.) 17 Jan 2019 17:02:37
The Record have a headline that he rubbishd rumours about Lallana, but nothing about it in the story.

2.) 17 Jan 2019 17:56:11
Gerrard saying Ross McCrorie is going nowhere. Glad to hear that 👍.

3.) 17 Jan 2019 18:48:53
Future club captain as stated by SG.

4.) 17 Jan 2019 20:59:12
Steven Gerrard always very impressive in front of the media reporters. He oozes class! Like most of us he states how highly he rates young ross mccrorie and how far he can go in the game. Future rangers captain gerrard said. Great confidence booster for mccrorie to hear an iconic midfielder like stevie G, saying that about you! Great during the press conference,
when gerrard was adamant, that ross mccrorie was going nowhere, again terrific to hear! Ross mccrorie learning and maturing under gerrard,
can't get any better for young ross.
He could be a mainstay rangers midfielder for many years to come!
Our management team have got mccrorie's mojo back and have done a terrific job instilling confidence in the young guy again! Superb.

5.) 17 Jan 2019 21:45:08
Totally agree coldo guys like Ross McCrorie are the future of our club.

6.) 18 Jan 2019 03:50:08
Would be great if McCrorie continues to develop his game at Rangers, and who better to learn from than Stevie Gerrard. In addition, in a couple of years his brother has a good chance of becoming our number one between the sticks.

Ok I’ve held off for a while on commenting in regards to the Tav bashers but I’m fed up of it now. There will be times when we concede goals, there will be times when we lose games, but the amount of folk who are now automatically jumping on the blame/ sell Tav band wagon is getting ridiculous.

Let’s look at Sunday’s goal and the people blaming Tav because the goal was scored around the mid to right side of the box? Ok so it started with Jack in my opinion being fouled and no free kick being given (not Tavs fault), Rogic breaks away and Ejaria chases him back until he passes to Forrest then Ejaria stops and let’s Ntcham run right past him and score (not Tavs fault) Arfield was meant to be picking up Ntcham but again he let he run past him into the box as well (not Tavs fault) Forrest who squared the ball for Ntcham was meant to be getting marked by Barisic and at the start of the move when Rogic broke away Barisic was about 3 yards away from Forrest yet when Forrest got the ball in our box Barisic was no where to be seen as he didn’t track him back (not Tavs fault) .

My point is for most goals that are conceded there are usually a number of mistakes made by a number of players, rarely is it just one persons fault.
Take the Motherwell game, why not berate Gouldson for slipping and giving away the first goal, or Gerrard for making a sub at the corner and forcing the defence to re-organise at the last second, or McGregor for not coming off his line for a ball that was only a yard or so from goal. Yes he lost his marker for motherwells second, I accept that and you can blame him for that.

My point is, stop looking to blame one player for anything bad that happens, the whole team wins and the whole team loses and in the majority of occasions goals are lost due to a number of factors, not one player. Oh and I do believe a lot of people just like jumping on the band wagon, ‘such and such in the press said it was Tavs fault that we lost a goal so I’m going to blame him too! ’ Without actually looking at the overall situation and actually seeing if that was the case.

(And before folk jump, yes I’m sure there have been goals lots where he could of done better but as I mentioned in s previous post, to me and more importantly to our manager and management team, his pluses way outway any negatives in his game)

1.) 06 Sep 2018 18:21:32
Great post FULLY AGREE! You win and lose as a team!

2.) 06 Sep 2018 18:54:51
Can't agree enough!

3.) 06 Sep 2018 19:28:20
It still doesn't change the fact his isn't very good at defending.

4.) 06 Sep 2018 19:35:19
I posted after Motherwell game that magregor was to blame for 3rd goal and yet tav was getting it both barrels of some of our support. I agree the Celtic goal was more Ejarias fault than tavs but again he's copping it off some fans. Tav is now the whipping boy I'm afraid.

5.) 06 Sep 2018 20:28:55
Jesus ****in Christ what is with all the negativity? Tav is the best right back in the league and the team is making strides in a big way, we've played 3 of our 4 league games away ( 2 of those against teams who have finished above us in previous campaigns ) . We r more than capable of winning the next 5/ 6 games and keep the pressure on teams around us at the top and we've qualified for the group stages of the Europa league! I can't understand some people I really can't

6.) 07 Sep 2018 06:15:19
Tav is not our best RB, he’s our best WB. 11 men caused the goal last Sunday, win and loose as a team. Certain players could have done better but I firmly believe, if we prevented that goal, their would have been another goal anyway. Can’t win them all or even 12. It will be even sweater at Xmas when we beat them to go 6 points clear at the top for a great start to 2019.!

22 Jun 2018 13:30:29
There’s been a lot of debate as to what’s going to happen to Tav now that Flanagan has been signed, will he be pushed forward, will he be sold? In my opinion, Tav will start the season exactly where he’s always been, our first choice right back. Flanagan has been brought in INITIALLY as cover for both fullback positions as let’s face it, Hodson is terrible and Wallace may never get fit. Through time nd when he gets up to speed he may well push Tav for the starting slot but at this point he won’t be first choice. What makes me think this? 1) unlike the rest of the signings he’s been given a two year contract not 3 or 4, it looks like Gerrard is wanting him to prove himself as being capable of getting back to his best 2) He was a tremendous full back at 21 but that was 4 years ago, since then he’s had 2 knee operations and we all know about his off field issues, he’s also only played 15 games in last 3 years or so, 6 on loan at Burnley and 9 on loan at Bolton and by all means the Bolton fans were not impressed at all by him.
Now don’t get me wrong, from a footballing point of view I’m glad we’ve signed him, he was free and therefore no real risk. However he won’t walk into the side, he’ll have to prove himself and try to get himself back to the levels he was at when he broke through at Liverpool which hopefully he will as then we’ll of got a real steal and at that point there will be a real challenge for right back with each player viaing for the position which will only be good for us.
But for now? Tav will be the right back.

1.) 22 Jun 2018 14:47:24
Gerrard hasn't brought flanagan in to warm the bench. Tav or candeias will play further forward with flanagan at RB👍

2.) 22 Jun 2018 14:52:16
flanagan was a top FB in the EPL. I doubt he's here to warm or bench.

3.) 22 Jun 2018 15:08:02
IMO no way flannigan is here as anything other than a first team starter

4.) 22 Jun 2018 15:08:23
What everyone seems to forget is Flanagans best games for lpool were at LB playin instead of Cissohko. declan is good going forward but needs to work on defending. as tav had to last year. i think will start Tav and John but any signs of loas of form and Flanaghan will reppace either

5.) 22 Jun 2018 15:12:16
I never said he was here to warm the bench, and yes he WAS a top fullback in the epl but that was 4 years ago and he has hardly played at all since then and certainly hasn’t played at that level recently. As I said, hopefully Gerrard can get him back to those levels but he’s certainly not at that standard at the moment and I personally don’t think he’ll walk in to the right back position, shifting Tav out of it, who was the best attacking rightback in the league last year. Yes through time if he gets back to those levels then fantastic and Tav will have a fight on his hands, but he won’t just walk into the team.

6.) 22 Jun 2018 15:42:25
Couldn't agree more with this post. Great cover and in time could push however he will need to get up to speed and prove himself before he takes the place of a couple of our top performers from last season.

7.) 22 Jun 2018 15:46:30
yeah, I think he will play left back instead of john.

Skrtel is not coming to Rangers. Rangers were never in anyway interested in Skrtel this window. His agent says he’s had contact with a number of clubs which included Rangers. This is agent talk for ‘my player needs a new club, no ones really knocking on our door so I’ve been calling around all and any clubs I think may be interested to try to get my player a club that will pay him (and me) a lot of money’.
Some people on here say we shouldn’t have a go at folk for posting rumours. I for one won’t have a go at anyone who posts something that they have genuinely heard that however unlikely could be true. Things like this though just annoy me as they are blatant crap.

Ok, here goes, let’s see if people want to listen. Steven Gerrard stated at the end of the season that in terms of Kent returning we’d have to play the waiting game as Liverpool wanted to have a look at him in pre-season before deciding what to do with him. (The only way that was going to change was if someone came in with a massive offer to buy him) .
Now despite what is written in the papers every day (unsurprisingly to try to sell papers), or despite everyone and their granny claiming they’d ‘heard a rumour’, Nothing has changed! We will go with what we have just now in terms of wingers, I reckon Gerrard is very happy with that, and if near the end of the window Liverpool decide to let him leave on loan we will have first refusal and will decide then whether to take him. This has been the case since May and still is.

This is true he can only pick from the players already registered. However the young players he as Mcpake and a few others were included as the under age players who don’t have to be officially registered as part of the main 25 (or 22 as it was in our case) I’m not saying the original poster is right with what he is saying he heard, just that it is possible to play some of the younger players.

Doubt he’ll be back at all. This is the last year of his contract. Wish we could of got some money for him rather than loaning home till his contract runs out.

Why do people actually believe things that they read on click bait sites such as football insider! I guarantee the people that write on such sites no absolutely nothing about the transfer dealings of Rangers (or probably any other clubs for that matter) .

Ok so I’m not sure how the minds at UEFA work so I’m not sure how the draws for each round work. How does drawing Midtjylland mean a tougher draw for the next round? Especially as they were a seeded team?

In terms of replacing Tav I think you just have to take a look across the city to see the problem we may have. They have been searching for a replacement right back for the best part of a year now and still haven’t really found one. The issue they (and if we sell Tav we) have is that to find someone that can offer the same or is at the same level of who is being replaced you are probably talking of spending 5million plus. The issue with that is players who cost 5 million plus don’t always fancy playing in the Scottish league, even if it is for Rangers or Celtic. You’re then back to trying to pick up a young up and coming gem which are far and few between. Players like Edmunson and Aribo, both of whom I’m guessing we scouted for a long time. So if we haven’t been actively searching for a right back, finding one to replace Tav at short notice may prove a very difficult task.

Not going to be as definite as Jim however he does have a point, we definitely want to avoid Wolves in the draw, they’re a very strong team, finished top half of the premiership and have a ridiculously massive budget compared to us. If anyone watched them at all last season (especially when they knocked Liverpool out the F A cup) they will know how good they can be.

To be honest Kamara actually had one of his poorer games last night, gave the ball away a few times. Realistically though that wasn’t the sort of game that he thrives in, he plays better in situations where there’s a lot of pressure in the middle of the park and he creates time and space and moves the ball on to others. As we dominated all possession last night he was having to try and push forward and play ‘killer passes’ more which isn’t really his style. Aribo was very solid, won tackles when he had to, drove forward and supported well, held on to the ball well and showed that he will be a very useful addition. We do have to remember that the standard of opposition though was very poor, probably bottom end Scottish championship or league one even.
