LIVERPOOL winger Sheyi Ojo is set to sign a five-year deal before immediately joining Rangers on loan.

Man when are we going to give our own youngsters a chance?

2.) 23 May 2019 09:22:52
the simple if boring answer to that is when they are ready to make the step up.

3.) 23 May 2019 09:26:41
As1974 when they are good enough.

4.) 23 May 2019 10:22:37
So your telling me we don't have one youngster in the reserves for example who isint good enough? Gies peace FS. We just won the youth cup.

5.) 23 May 2019 10:27:09
We can't just give our young winger in this case middleton a place in the team, as our left winger, if we have an possible chance of getting ryan kent back, for next season. Kent quite simply just now, is better than middleton.

6.) 23 May 2019 10:48:33
Winger does this mean kent off?

Yip give our own a chance.

7.) 23 May 2019 11:10:17
Strange signing for me. Gerrard quoted he'll be signing quality over quantity. Young lad didn't do that well with his last loan club apparently.

8.) 23 May 2019 11:17:21
Done crap at stade reims only 3 appearances of bench so naw thanks.

9.) 23 May 2019 11:33:37
Jbf and paul, said the same till I am blue in the face, why can't people get this? We seem to go round in circles on this subject👍.

10.) 23 May 2019 12:04:07
I've had a wee think about this. I was of the same opinion as most re what's the point of having our youth doing well, when we don't give them a chance but as much as I hate to admit no youngster will be risked until 9 iar is stopped.
Any young player that could be added would need to be at a level where the can add or improve the first team. I honestly don't think any of them are at that level yet.
Look at McCrorie and Middleton, both are on a different level to any of our current batch of young players and they both struggle to get a regular start in the first team.

11.) 23 May 2019 12:22:14
would think jones and hastie at similar level.

12.) 23 May 2019 13:06:58
neither did Kent.

13.) 23 May 2019 13:08:56
Mbude just got a run out and got taught a lesson, when it's not boys he's running up against. Middleton is a 1 trick pony.
I would personally at least once a week play the young team against the first team, NOT FOR A KICK ABOUT., and make them appreciate the difference.

14.) 23 May 2019 14:29:30
Have to agree with what coldo says in his above post there.

15.) 23 May 2019 15:48:50
DSGERSFAN, by your logic of Ojo not having a great season at Reims, then we shouldn't have taken Kent? hi previous loan spell at bristol city poor also. AND FYI he made 15 league appearances for Reim this seaon and 3 in cup

AS1974 we don't have someone who can step up and be a 1st team player for an entire season, its a lot different playing youth level and reserves than it is to be consitant enough infront of 52k every 2nd week, against experienced pros

our youth players will be given chances next season but will be sparingly.

16.) 23 May 2019 16:14:04
JBF How do we know the young guys can't step up? They have to get a chance. I think Middleton is a great player but needs a run of games. Maybe be given 20 mins here or there to get going. McCrorie for me has to go out on loan to get more game time. If they are good enough there old enough but they've got to be given a run. Loan players are ok but we need to start getting revenue in to the club. I don't want us to go back down the buying 30-32 year olds with no sell on fee. We've been there. Didn't work. It's worrying that we are not producing enough young talent.

17.) 23 May 2019 16:37:51
As1974 Middleton had a good run of games last season and wasn't ready to claim the place permanently. Still isn't. Would you guys actually see young boys struggling in the first team than having a mature, professional side? Only absolutely exceptional kids are able to make the step up at a young age, as both McCrorie and Middleton have proved. They are streets ahead of anyone else of a similar age and can't hold down a starting spot.

18.) 23 May 2019 17:08:31
The trouble is rangers do not have
Enough mature players to play week
In week out to get anywhere near celtic
As we owe Liverpool we take their
Youngster improve them so Liverpool
Can move them on a decent price
So that is where the famous stand
In football a training ground
For some teams.

19.) 23 May 2019 17:30:28
Should not look to much into these signings just wait till the window opens there the ones that count.

20.) 23 May 2019 19:38:23
a squad is required at different levels throughout a season including Europe. best wishes and headless chickens are not. believe.

21.) 23 May 2019 19:10:05
Cheers coop😂👍.

22.) 23 May 2019 19:52:00
Hahahahah butbwe just won the youth cup. Lucky if 1 or these lads make the step up and become 1st team regular that's the harsh reality of it.

23.) 24 May 2019 07:33:58
So what's the point of having youth players and a training centre that's second to none if we can't produce talent? That's my point.

24.) 24 May 2019 08:55:28
The problem with our youth players has been created by the SFA. Why do we not allow our clubs to have B teams in the lower leagues say league 1 is the highest they go. It would be win win for everyone. Our youngsters would play against grown men in competitive leagues. Learn there trade being coached by our own staff all the time. Just now we need to send them out on loan to mostly part time teams which isn't the answer. it works for the lower leagues clubs as they would get the added revenue. Even a rangers B team would fill most lower league stadiums. It could also bring in tv money to for the SFA if they bothered to market our game properly.
Dont need to limit it to just rangers and celtic either. We all complain about national team it would benefit them to. Instead of 19 year olds having a handful of full games we could have 20 year olds approaching 100 competitive games.
I think youth may be given a chance next season. Would use the early cup rounds to give a couple at a time some game time.

25.) 24 May 2019 09:11:50
Kinda funny to talk about 'our youth' when half of it was signed from other clubs too! Coombes came from Chelsea, Atakayi from Jaro and even the great Barrie McKay came from Killie. We don't produce much ourselves quite honestly. McCrorie is a good exception to this rule.

26.) 24 May 2019 09:59:04
AS1974 you are missing my point

we do have players in youth set up who can step up and play in 1st team but just not at a consistent level for an entire season

90% of youth team players throughout the world are the same. they can do a job just not over the course of a hard season

our youth will come good but they need to be eased into things, involved in match day sqauds, getting minutes here and there, maybe going on loan for 6mtnhs.

27.) 24 May 2019 11:10:24
JBF Answer me this. How many players have we produced from Murray Park- Hummel training centre? Hutton comes to mind who sold for 9m I think about 8 years ago. Who else? that's my point. You can't tell he there are players in the youth and reserve league who can't step up and play week in week out? Yes they could play consistently. Look at our loan signings bar Kent. There hasn't been any stand outs so we are wasting wages on players who can't cut it at this level. At least if we tried our own talent we have nothing to lose. That's all I'm saying.

28.) 24 May 2019 12:15:51
Bellshill makes a good point. Why not bring back the proper reserve league? Change the set-up so that all Premiership clubs must have a reserve team (not a youth or development team although clubs could still have youth teams too of course) . As Bellshill says, the reserve teams would be a mix of experienced players and youngsters. That way, clubs could gauge how well their young players are doing in these games rather than youth vs youth. It is indicative of the whole shambolic set-up of Scottish football that the reserve leagues don't exist and also the farce that is allowing plastic pitches at Premiership grounds!

29.) 26 May 2019 12:15:09
For me you get your best youth players out on loan to other Premiership or Championship clubs to gain 1st team experience look at Hastie at Alloa, Andy Robertson at Queens Park, Charlie Adam at St Mirren for example. Let them play against men and find out how good they really are then if they step up you either give them a chance or sell them on.
It takes a real special talent to go from youth to 1st team at Rangers like Barry Ferguson most others need to go through loan system to see how good they can be.
