Hearing that Tav or his availability rather, has been queried for a transfer away from Rangers after this season. Both clubs south of the border and one of which is either risk of relegation from the PL or potential promotion to the PL it wasn't clear. the other is apparently a mid table champ side.
Within the same convo it was stated that Tav will not entertain any conversations until close of season die to the current issues surrounding the club.
Might be bull…. Maybe not.
1.) 12 Feb 2025 11:37:22
I think his contract runs to Summer 2026, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Rangers supporter that would be against him moving on in summer even without a fee / a heavily reduced one.
It sounds like he wants a testimonial too (this would be his 10th season), which given the way the season has gone could be like a red rag to a bull for many fans.
2.) 12 Feb 2025 12:06:12
Hopefully he gets a testimonial and it sells about 8k seats.
3.) 12 Feb 2025 12:10:36
Only club I know when your right back is the player that fans look to be the match winner week and week out from that position where as every other club in the world from grass roots look to their creative players in midfield and up front to be their match winners but sadly we haven't had any match winners outside our right back since Aribo and kent in 22. By the way a march winner isn't just a person who scores.
If you have played football yourselves you will know what I mean.
4.) 12 Feb 2025 12:19:19
If it wasn't for the injuries to Sterling and Kasa, Tav would have left in January.
5.) 12 Feb 2025 13:24:31
Rick I have played but as I am not an expert in football like you wonder if you can confirm the stats I find and if they meet with your approval:
as a base Tavernier has scored in 91 wins for us. but only 38 of those have been winning goals so Tavs has only scored the winning goal in just under 42% of those matches so another player or players has scored the winner in 58% of those games. It may be where fans look for the winner but statistically that isn't the case.
Dessers has scored in 15 games where those goals being the winner in 32 games so 47% of the matches
Cerny has scored 5 winning goals in 8 matches (62.5%)
Morelos scored in 79 winning matches 36 of those have been winning (45.5%)
so in reality in a match there is a higher chance of any of those 3 having provided the winner.
as I say not an expert so as one would you agree?
6.) 12 Feb 2025 13:29:46
Is that the case Ehl?
Would that have been his choice or the clubs?
Be been tags biggest fan for many years but I'd say his time is now up, the inly other thing I would suggest is that if he were to agree to slash his terms and stay for the final year and he can play back up to kasa. That would be my ideal scenario.
Hope we win this Europa for him so he gets the send off he deserves, really hat how he's treated by our fans.
7.) 12 Feb 2025 13:48:12
Rick winter what a load of keek the modern day full back is a creative players. Alaba at Munich, Trent at Liverpool, even walker at city, Theo Hernandez, Leighton baines I could sit here all day and name you creative fullbacks who's teams looked to them to provide assists / goals or creativity I'm not defending tav but to say the modern day full back isn't to attack and create is a load of crap 5 backs just prove it even further ….
8.) 12 Feb 2025 13:50:32
So EHL with tav staying until the end of the season, who's his testimonial against, do you know mate ?.
9.) 12 Feb 2025 14:20:53
More Celtic fans at his testimonial than Rangers fans.
10.) 12 Feb 2025 14:20:53
Tav has been an exceptional signing for Rangers with his goals and assists.
Modern day RB who is creative offensively.
11.) 12 Feb 2025 14:29:20
Stevie, I believe he's agreed a move and the club were open to letting him go.
That being the case, I'd be surprised if he didn't move on in the summer.
He's one of the few remaining players that are out with our new salary structure.
12.) 12 Feb 2025 14:34:19
I'll tell you something storm, if tav gets a testimonial, i'm most certainly one Rangers supporter who'll be attending it ???.
13.) 12 Feb 2025 14:56:45
Tav may have been a good player for us and scored lots of goals but what have we won under his leadership and goals?
14.) 12 Feb 2025 14:58:40
SirWalter - Newcastle?
15.) 12 Feb 2025 15:20:50
If tav does leave he go and finish his carear at his boyhood club leeds united.
16.) 12 Feb 2025 15:21:38
I'd be stunned if an eplclub signed him and played him regularly.
17.) 12 Feb 2025 15:33:36
Sam I have no idea how you managed to pick Walker, Alaba two full backs who regular slot in to make the back 3 as your choices, Trent is literally the only one you named who share a similar style to Tav. Theo is way more attacking almost as a LW allow Leao slot into the inside 10.
Understand your point but key difference is Trent/ Theo/ Walker/ Alaba have never been the best player on their respective teams. Nor the only one that creates or scores.
18.) 12 Feb 2025 15:05:44
His defending has always been questionable to say the least, what got him by, was his goals, his assists and his fitness.
Goals and assists have dried up in comparison to previous years, and imo, he has lost at least a yard of pace. Christ, he can't even score a penalty, when it was required more than ever to get us out the hole we dug ourselves ( don't hear many mentioning that btw!).
Testimonial, would be an embarrassment.
19.) 12 Feb 2025 16:06:43
Ehl, is there news on Sterling and when jes likely to back playing?
20.) 12 Feb 2025 16:18:22
Tav has been a great servant to our club but his time to go should be this summer.
21.) 12 Feb 2025 17:15:24
Aerodonn alaba has over 100 goal contributions in 400 games for Bayern the majority being whilst he played left back, Theo Hernandez players left back so how you try dismiss that one is astounding. Hernandez is most definitely the best player at Milan currently and has been for a while leaos form is all over the place. Kyle walker has always been a creative force untill recently. there's a reason city bought him his pace and explosiveness and his attacking attributes a guy who loves to assist an assist. Anyway hear if your not happy with those names how about Carlos, alba, marcelo, Dani alves, Cafu, Maicon, Davies or hakami.
22.) 12 Feb 2025 18:15:27
Come on Sam, if you are going to talk sense you will get nowhere here ?
from Transfermarkt Aerondonn:
Kyle walker 502 matches at RB and 30 at CB 54 goal contributions
Theo Hernandez 321 games at LB 7 at CB and 15LM 92 GCs
David alaba 261 lb and 205 at cb 115 GCs
TTA 345Rb and 8 in a few other positions. 116 GCs
all attacking full backs but not the goal and assist stats of Tav. 294 GCs
more difficult leagues but again they are all internationals so should be okay.
23.) 12 Feb 2025 18:27:34
Storm I think your comment about Tav's possible testimonial is in very bad taste. Any Tim's reading that would lap it up. A Hun slagging off his club's captain in a very derogatory and sarcastic way.
24.) 12 Feb 2025 18:41:32
Angus to be honest I was just pointing out that Rick was talking a lot of crap, then aerodonn tried to shoot it down I purposely tried to pick players outside of the Carlos, Dani alves ect box to prove it wasn't a short list of highly known players it's just the way of the modern game attacking fullbacks.
25.) 12 Feb 2025 18:44:50
The amount of abuse Tav gets is uncalled for, he's been an absolute bargain of a signing, yes he's lost a couple of yards of pace but that's natural, he's had far more good games than bad and scored plenty of crucial goals for us.
26.) 12 Feb 2025 19:19:02
I know Sam and I agreed that what was being said against you was crap and agree also with your post on the attacking role of full backs in teams being more important at times than the defensive one. I love a stat so took the opportunity to look it all up and as I suspected the stats backed your stance.
I tend to look at stats when like they did to you people spout something that they think must be true but haven't even looked.
27.) 12 Feb 2025 19:42:27
Once a Ranger, your use of the word "Hun" is in my eyes far more derogatory than what Storm has said. It is more akin to a Celtic supporter and pithy n pathetic on your part. Hang your head embarrassing ??.
28.) 12 Feb 2025 22:11:33
Fork it is not a word I use very often and I take no offence or shame in your comments. I only used it to emphasise how much the other lot revel in our own support being so sarcastic and demeaning of our own players. If you don't see that as a problem then I would say that is embarrassing to our club.
29.) 12 Feb 2025 22:46:00
He is not alone in doing so on here, as are other teams fans, I get what u say, but the use of that is not something I find palatable, imo, no offence intended?.
30.) 12 Feb 2025 23:16:34
Fork I am not sure how much you know about Rangers history and world history in general? In the 1960's and 1970's it was common in old firm games for Rangers fans to sing "go home ya huns" as Celtic fans surged to the exits when Rangers were winning. I would say that expression came from WW2 when Ireland was too cosy with the abhorrent Nazi regime. In declassified Irish documents in 2005 it revealed that both the Irish President Douglas Hyde and Prime Minister De Valera had both conveyed their condolences to the Nazi Ambassador in Dublin and had maintained cordial relations with the Nazis even after news of the Holocaust emerged. The term Hun was first used by Rangers Supporters towards many Celtic fans of Irish descent after WW2 because of Ireland's abhorrent closeness to the Nazis.
31.) 13 Feb 2025 00:25:52
Hun" is a derogatory term that was used by the Western Allies to refer to Germans during World War I. The term originated from the nomadic Huns of the Migration Period.
Origin of the term
The term became a pejorative on war posters by the Western Allies.
The wartime association of the term with Germans is believed to have been inspired by a speech given by Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1900.
The speech, called the "Hun speech" (Hunnenrede), was given to German troops sailing to suppress the Boxer Rebellion.
Meaning of the term
The term was used to characterize Germans as barbarians who lacked respect for civilization and humanitarian values.
Court ruling in 2024 where i think once a Rangers always a Rangers got his information from
Here it is
to rule that using word 'Hun' for Rangers fans is sectarian
Lawyers for Di Pinto, 39, of Renfrew, challenged the religious aggravation element of his conviction at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh last month.
Solicitor advocate Ann Ogg argued that the word "hun" did not contain a religious aspect or indicate malice or ill will towards Protestant people.
The court heard that it was an non religious slur used to describe Rangers fans.
She told judges Lord Carloway, Lord Matthews and Lord Boyd that there was also evidence available to show that Rangers fans once called Celtic supporters 'huns'.
The court heard this was because Rangers fans believed their counterparts supported the Nazi war effort.
She also said that there was an Old Firm match in 1983 when Celtic fans and Rangers fans united in singing "Go Home You Huns" because they didn't like the Half Time entertainment.
32.) 13 Feb 2025 01:00:31
Never disagreed with Sam's point Angus.
But ok if you want to deep the stats Alaba assists only 23% of them come from open play in a league where his team score 100+ goals for fun. Theo may be a LB on paper but go watch Milan you will see majority of his time is spent very high up Or simply have a gander at his heat map for the season.
Walker again wouldn't say anyone thinks of him as the attacking minded fullback.
All I was simply saying was the players chosen didn't feel exactly the type that was being explained. Like saying Modric and Iniesta was the same.
33.) 13 Feb 2025 06:22:57
I am aware of both, still not palatable won't change my thoughts.
34.) 13 Feb 2025 07:42:37
So what if there not from open play they still count ?
Kyle walker was the driving force to citys connection between denbruyne and augero ect for years …. Check any left backs heat map they'll more than likely spend the majority of the game in the opposition half ….
35.) 13 Feb 2025 08:36:12
Back to tav bashing again . how can 1 guy get the blame for so much. He must have some mentality to stick with us for 10 years with constant bashing from fans. Beyond a joke.
36.) 13 Feb 2025 09:08:26
Do u think he cares as he checks his bank balance?.
37.) 13 Feb 2025 14:17:10
Stu, or he's got a brass neck.
38.) 13 Feb 2025 18:31:48
Ehl, thanks for reply mate.
03 Feb 2025 16:31:12
Good to see Cameron has signed. Yer man C Jack has rubbishd the Driouech approach… is he really in the know?
Also hearing that Lawrence could have gone to West Brom already but chose to stay at Rangers following the Europa result on Thursday as he feels being involved (on the bench) will raise his profile before moving on. Can't say I'm pleased with that folks would rather he took his high wage and tissue paper legs to someone else.
1.) 03 Feb 2025 17:14:28
For Lawrence at the back end of his career it's a no brainier to stay. One last crack at Europe and a big signing on bonus in the summer.
2.) 03 Feb 2025 17:19:53
Jack is quoting the foreign journalist I think as his source.
3.) 03 Feb 2025 17:22:12
I think he may well come in handy before the seasons over. He's scored a few important goals over his time here.
4.) 03 Feb 2025 17:43:22
In relation to Lawrence his wages till end off season circa 300k, may still do a turn, imo we would not Gergen 500 k for him.
5.) 03 Feb 2025 19:16:40
We can only make 3 changes to the Euro squad, i would be quite happy to keep Lawrence till summer as he might still have a part to play.
We have done well getting the wage bill down to where it is over past 2 windows and it will reduce again in Summer. Moving on the players that haven't contributed and on massive wages is what i was hoping for this window. I juat hope the ones on Loan perform and we bring in some transfer funds in the summer.
08 Jan 2025 13:29:02
Apparently Dessers given permission to speak to Atlanta (US) and a yet to be named Ligue 1 club. £3 million bid tabled.
Dowell has also spoken to two English teams, x1 championship and x1 league one with no fee divulged but will be in the hundreds of thousands.
Nothing on the incomings other than Lyall Cameron offered a pre-contract with no intent to make him a Jan signing. Another tribunal for a development fee?
1.) 08 Jan 2025 14:18:58
I would be very amenable to Dessers going if we can get a reasonable fee for him (£3m+) and Dowel for whatever is possible, if it means we can reinvest it in a CB and CF. I think we need a winger for the left in too, but not sure how achievable all that will be.
2.) 08 Jan 2025 15:18:22
Stone t u hearing anything on moneys owed re dessers, I’m told we owe two payments
Yo Jimbo, we will have very little left.
3.) 08 Jan 2025 15:33:51
Not paying Dowell off would be a win, he will end up pocketing any transfer fee to go in line with his present wage.
4.) 08 Jan 2025 15:34:23
I’d be over the moon if we got dessers and dowel out the door n off the wage bill while bringing in £3-3.5m for both. That’s good business for us as it stands. Not good in terms of what we paid out but as it stands hats good. I believe Cameron will only come in if we move dowel on, maybe also need Lawrence away aswell for that to happen as squad space matters here. Hopefully we move both in and bring the lad in now.
But European squad has to be taken into account when doing all of this.
5.) 08 Jan 2025 15:37:07
John would h u agree it’s more about getting these players out the door and off the wage bill so PC can get in the squad of players he needs n wants.
Know it’s not great in terms of money but the other option is they run down co tract n we are stuck with them and still have to pay the payments and wages anyway.
We need to take these hits in order to move forward as a team and club.
6.) 08 Jan 2025 15:48:31
John, appreciate that we seem to still need to pay some to Dessers old club, but at this stage I just cannot see his value increasing at Rangers. I think he's now 3rd choice CF and I don't think we should hold on to him for another year if he's realistically not going to get a lot of game time given the wage he'll be on and the diminishing returns we'll make on him. Sadly I think the only option is to cut our losses now and move on from what was yet another miss in the transfer market under old regimes. Painful from a financial perspective, but I think that's the spot we're in.
7.) 08 Jan 2025 15:50:57
John- no figures touted but I think we will be lucky to keep a low 7 figure sum if CD actually goes based upon what’s owed, that figure varies between who is asked to be fair. There’s also the chance he refuses to go, again.
Agreed on the Dowell chat, when he’s on the pitch it’s the closest I ever get to walking out the stadium or turning the telly off. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but he brings absolutely nothing and is stealing an opportunity for a young player to get that exposure/ experience we all repetitively shout about for Bailey Rice etc.
8.) 09 Jan 2025 08:50:18
John you keep saying we will have very little left the payments we do not make as we will have payed him off can be reinvested if the club do t the useless C##ts on the board will be in for a terrible time.

From inside the club, not a boardroom person and not a first team coach… are ye ready? Clement will see the season out and have next season - this is the plan.
He was wonderful to many last week and dismal again this week. Welcome to the merry-go-round…
I can't help wondering where the 'if this was any other Rangers manager' patter is coming from…. How many times have they said they will not rinse and repeat. It's getting boring now on that phrase alone nevermind the 'who is this new guy and why did he get a 3 year deal'
The crux is that it is not the 90's anymore we aren't owed success, we cannot buy it either, so…. Yer auld pal patience needs to be tested that wee bit longer.
1.) 12 Feb 2025 07:50:31
Tea lady, Grass cutter? ??.
2.) 12 Feb 2025 08:10:01
StoneCold this is the best post on this I have read. gets to the heart of the entitled fans issue. the same with players. the I don't like him, he is a wasted jersey, let's just get rid and spend £4.5 million and replace him. some have a lot of catching to do to realise we don't have the cash anymore to even consider that. If we ever do again I still hope we don't go down that road.
3.) 12 Feb 2025 08:26:35
We only need to get 1 appointment correct, we have some good young players and with the right coach and the right leader these guys can go on to bigger and better leagues after delivery success for us.
4.) 12 Feb 2025 08:28:05
Couldn't agree more, we're not owed success we have to earn it and we can't keep sacking the manager and hoping the next one will get it right. If we want long term success we need to be patient.
5.) 12 Feb 2025 08:38:11
Patience seems to be a trait many are lacking in.
6.) 12 Feb 2025 08:39:31
Only the ones who already loved him thought he was wonderful last week. The vast majority who had been critical before just hoped he'd turned the corner and were hoping they'd been wrong.
7.) 12 Feb 2025 09:08:55
Entitled? Patience? Owed Success?
A 2nd best mentality has creeped into the fanbase.
We aren't Aberdeen, Hearts or Hibs where an occasional Cup win appeases the fan base. A fan base that doubles on Cup Final day.
We have 50,000 fans turning up Hail, Rain or Shine.
Who don't just demand success. We expect it.
You don't win 55 titles by being patient.
You don't win 34 SC's by being patient.
Toy don't win 28 LC's by being patient.
You don't reach more European finals than the rest of Scottish football combined by being patient.
We expect the custodians to get it right more than they have in regards to managerial appointments over the last few seasons.
We seen the low crowds in the early 80's.
That forced change.
And could end up happening again if the rubbishshow continues.
8.) 12 Feb 2025 09:26:24
He hasn't been wonderful to many.
9.) 12 Feb 2025 09:26:56
Fork I have no patience whatsoever I know that mate ?.
10.) 12 Feb 2025 09:29:57
OK I agree we need to be patient to see changes at the club. But can't be indefinite. How long should that patience last. Help me out then. A few more games? Till the end of the season? Next? The end of his contract?
11.) 12 Feb 2025 09:51:29
I'm afraid you need to smell the coffee and read the room. Our financial position dictates you adopt patience or shrivel up in frustration morph. Sorry but that the only way forward.
12.) 12 Feb 2025 10:00:26
I honestly hand on heart do think there's every chance that clement will get next season also just like StoneCold has eluded to ?.
13.) 12 Feb 2025 10:01:11
Good points made MPH but although we've won all these trophies, they've been won over a 150 years period. Put that into context, there's more years where we haven't won the league than years we have. During the mid 1980's to 1997 we won 9 of the 55 league titles - a period when we had far greater financial resources at our disposal than others. That's where entitlement and expectation mostly stems from. Those days are long gone and, whether we like it or not, the shoe is on the other foot since 2012. So what's the alternatives available? 1) sack Clement without a plan on who should replace him? 2) keep him in place at least until an alternative is identified and found? 3) keep him to see out the current rebuild? Each of these scenarios will have pitfalls regardless but I'm not convinced that any new manager would get a tune out of the current crop of players. The young players have no role models in the senior players. What's more concerning is we run the risk of shredding the young players' confidence by the fans demanding we win every game - soon we'll get to a point where any young prospect will be advised against signing for Rangers due to such fan pressure.
14.) 12 Feb 2025 10:03:08
MPH yes since the 80s Rangers constantly spent more than they should have and why we ended in the mess we got into. we had a time then also that english teams being banned from EU competition all the players were eager to come to scotland.
Success at what price, liquidation again maybe not surviving this time round, me personally want a team to support not a memory to live on.
15.) 12 Feb 2025 10:08:32
MPH we don't just demand success we expect it is the entitlement that is being spoken about.
as in another thread we did win those trophies by being patient. no Rangers manager has been continually successful ever in their tenure.
I mentioned Jock Wallace who arrived in 1970 (73 as manager) who in his second season as manager won the title in 74/ 75. this was our first title in 11 seasons. In that time we had 3 managers who all got some time to try to change that and failed but the board had the patience to try at least.
BTW Rangers average attendance sat around 20-25k for a decade following 76/ 77 and it wasn't the fans who changed that as the crowd figures didn't pick up until Lawrence put money into the club and we started winning when they went up to mid 30k. so fans didn't affect change money did.
so history could tell us that boycotts didn't work then as we continued to be uncompetitive in the league. Unfortunately it was cash that made us competitive and we don't have a sugar daddy to bring that now. we will have to work to develop players to sell and make that money; hence the need for patience.
16.) 12 Feb 2025 10:09:35
Correct??.
17.) 12 Feb 2025 10:20:55
Well put Stonecold - there is an heir of entitlement amongst an element of our fans who were brought up in the 90's/ 00's. Well, this isn't that time anymore and like it or not, we are not that club at the moment due to mismanagement. Try being a fan in the 80's pre Souness.
18.) 12 Feb 2025 10:38:24
"Morph" @ the Colonel, are you Tony Hart? ??
19.) 12 Feb 2025 11:17:23
So sorry Mr PH - predictive text. Apologies, no insult intended. Thanks Fork.
20.) 12 Feb 2025 11:35:32
Lol no worries bud??.
10 Jan 2025 06:00:01
A nuance of being a Rangers fan is a bipolar reaction throughout our good, bad and ugly. I’ve tried to tell myself that this is our version of what Sir Alex done at united…. Pish for a wee bit, building and stamping a brand but bloody hell the current situation is beyond what I can stomach.
Young Nsiala was massively let down by the mute Propper.
Ridvan is out of position and can’t keep the ball between the white lines and his ball striking is akin to an armless man using a fly swatter in the heat of summer.
So many names underperforming but Rabbi the Welsh skelf Matondo has zero game intelligence and leaves us a man down. Wtf is clement thinking. He makes the don’t let the door hit you on the way out list alongside; Dowell, Propper, King ( I’ll take stuck for that but he's not good enough), Dessers and McAusland (another below the level required) .
Someone must have an idea of a solution here, where do we go? Who do/ can we sign?
25 Feb 2025 09:22:53
Good to see a wide range of perspective on this… intriguing and will be just as interesting to see what the new coaching team action.
I think that keeping a player who was up for leaving in January who is also the captain (the captain through some of our worst footballing history) and has delivered little success was a massive mistake. Was it any coincidence that we looked better with raskin as captain? His body language and patented blame game methods on the pitch are rotten. He should have been amongst the other dead wood to leave and I'll wait for the games/ goals/ assists retort and acknowledge this much but he has to be stripped and his exit facilitated as soon as the window opens. He is one of the current players that turn and poison as soon as his sh*t begins to stink… time to cut off the dead limb and grow.
18 Feb 2025 09:06:20
Agree that Jefte has had some patchy moments and has been caught at the back post but I'd say some of the bashing is unfair - he's definitely had a dip in form but you all know the cliche about form being temporary…
Does clement see another option that he trusts over Jefte, if so then common sense would dictate Jefte sits out a game or two. Maybe he doesn't actually fancy Ridvan at left back when Jefte is fit. Says a lot or a little depending on your slant.
15 Jan 2025 17:52:19
Hearing that Matondo not to be in tonight's squad, has been omitted to allow a loan move *with option to buy. He has three offers, unclear as to which he has chosen. Source is questionable but has had some hits, won't lie about that. I for one of many would be glad to see the back of him - he's an immature non contributor caring more about messing about than putting in the work.
