Rangers enquire about martyn waghorn and James tavernier from Wigan. With the later being a right full back I take it that means wabara won't be offered a deal. Seems strange as from what I've heard he is a decent player and more than able to play for a decent championship side down south where as tavernier only managed a few games in loan at Bristol City last season.

Not sure what's happening with Wabaraa. Tavernier played on loan for City from January, have family in Bristol and actually saw him play when visiting. Looked decent, athletic and strong on the ball. Think Waghorn was pretty highly thought of when he first started out at Sunderland, even capped at u21 level for England, lost his way a bit

Cheers for the info glue, in my opinion any player who can hold down a place at championship level or top half league one will be more than good enough at any level in scotland. Just hope if these boys sign they can improve and make us money in the future.

13 Jul 2015 18:18:56
I believe we need a proven goal scorer at a good level, just looking at waghorns career stats, doesn't score many goals for a striker but he may surprise us and could be decent at Scottish championship level.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 19:28:32
MW has already stated that there will be no further interest in Wabaraa. He didn't even feature in game against Spurs.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 20:42:23
Brunkendastard do you know why? Sounded like a decent player.

Aye waghorn stats aren't overly impressive but he has still scored goals. I'd imagine it's not hard to score in the championship up here. unless you're Kenny miller and kris boyd.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 21:05:00
could well be that Wabara has other irons in the fire, or maybe even asking big wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 21:06:49
Waghorn has already scored twice against hibs in a friendly in Malaga this week.: so should be able to do a job for us in the championship

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 23:20:26
Allegdely Wabarra was looking for contract of £10k a week

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2015 11:28:25
Either Wabara wanted an exorbitant salary we can't afford ( and shouldn't be paying) or he just didn't fit the mould. Can't say that I have ever seen him play nor had I ever heard of him before the trial, so can't comment if he is any good or not. At least we are properly running an eye over these players unlike signing guys like Peralta or Mervan Cellic after watching youtube clips!

My mistake,he scored a double against hibs in a pre season friendly,he must be really good!!

Ex Hearts playmaker Jason Holt starts training with Rangers with a view to signing a contract, Hearts would be due compensation

they have already made offer to hearts but likely to go to tribunal

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 13:45:21
He was not good enough for hearts.

Where is the ambition or sense in looking at players of this level. We are thinking and behaving like a championship side. It's pathetic. Just give Celtic 10 in a row right now.

Truth is our team was very poor last season and has been weakened further over the summer. I fear for the season ahead. Hibs will win championship.

Keep seeing give tempelton or Clark a chance- they have had plenty and not taken them. Madness to rely on them.

I was genuinely excited after DK promise and MW appointment but it's another false dawn.

All your posts are doom n gloom luigi give them time to get a squad together then judge who's not good enough and who is!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 14:11:52
Luigi he was good enough for hearts but he turned down a new contract to look for a new challenge so before you brand player bot good enough get you facts straight. Just saying.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 14:16:10
how have we been weakened over the summer by getting rid of the duds

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 14:16:33
Luigi our team is not as weak as last season we have strengthened by signing decent young players who will increase our quality for example the new goalkeeper would command a fee of 500k to 1m if he had been under contract and was being followed by rather big championship clubs down south. Same as Danny Wilson he was being looked at on the continent and even our rivals across the city so not that bad a signing.

As for Holt he is a decent player whose chances of staying down south were ended by chnage of manager at Sheffield United so keep the faith in MW and what is the point of wasting money and fees on players who could potentially flop

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 14:20:31
Well said, Luigi. Hearts, while in the Championship, sent this lad out on loan because he couldn't get a game, so how come all of a sudden he's good enough for Rangers? We've basically signed a couple of defenders since King pleged to invest millions in the team, and while I didn't really expect that to happen, I'm now getting very concerned about the lack of activity in that department. It's that pit-of-the-stomach feeling I got some years ago when I went to Belfast for a friendly v Linfield and clapped eyes on some of Paul le Guen's signings for the first time. It's called fear.

13 Jul 2015 14:20:46
@luigi

How can our team be worse than last year? We have added 2 solid defenders and some promosing youth. Last years squad were all overpayed jokers to be frank and getting rid of the likes of Boyd, Smith, Black, Foster etc can only mkae us stonger.

We are thinking and behaving like a Championship side because we are one and if Hibs couldn't finish above us with that shambles of a manager/squad they have zero hope of ever doing so.

Chill out & get real

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 14:22:45
I also was very exited but hearing the names we are being linked with is not filling me with much confidence at all Jason holt is not good enuff. Luigi you are right we are acting like a championship club we should be aiming a lot higher in quality.

People on here need to stop watching rangers past greats we will never go back to those days we are a championship side we seem to forget that w&w r building from the back exactly what we needed we have 2 weeks till our first game give it a chance and stop moaning bout everything same guys will moan on here if we sign players on big wages who don't perform remember its a 3 year plan not a 3 week plan

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 15:21:13
Gies piece Luigi. We ARE a championship club and we are now being run prudently and sensibly with our main objectives for the season easily achievable.
I'm looking forward to a season of entertaining, attacking football from enthusiatic and hungry younger players who actually want to learn and can play football on the deck coached by a proper football manager and coaching team.
More signings will come, of that there is no doubt.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Jul 2015 15:35:18
Jason Holt played the last 10 games for Sheffield United and played the whole game scoring 5 goals. The English League one is a far superior league to the league we find ourselves in so i'm sure the lad can do a job for us.

My god patience please,we haven't even played a competitive game yet but it's all doom And gloom already I'm sure W&W know what's required and are doing all they can to get players in,let's give it a chance eh. keep the faith🇬🇧

going back to what others said at the top of these comments I feel we actually strengthened are squad the day the 11 players left ahah >D

13 Jul 2015 18:32:10
Wilson is a decent signing, the keeper maybe is slightly better than bell but not by much. Not at all convinced by Kiernan. So maybe the defence might, and only might be better than last season.

Up front and midfield are the true problems. Our inability last season to control possession and unlock teams was the problem not our defence. We were out played far far too often. The strikers may have failed but their service was a joke.

The problems have not been addressed. We have lost 11 players and not replaced them, that is whyour team is weaker. Yes some of the were duds but we have not replaced them with anything never mind better quality. We need more pace, more quality and more strength otherwise it will be the same story.

Holt could not force his way into the hearts team last season. How he did on loan over 10 games hardly outweighs that.

To the tempelton and Clark fan club - these guys are failures. Three different managers got nothing out of them last season, why do you think me will be any different?

I was optimistic after dk promise and me appointment but it is another false dawn.

Kwaj that's utter tosh mate. Tribunals happen all the time when it involves development fees for young players. They'll be paid once a fee is agreed, that simple really, nothing untoward or underhand about it. Smh at that comment tbh, honestly, some people on here make me giggle at times lol. :-)

How can we be stronger than last year, we have lost 11 players and bought in 3, how can that possibly make us stronger

Luigi

You're a very negative individual! How can you judge Kiernan or the team before a ball has been kicked? Reasonable supports will give the football team and the management team time before making a judgement. I'm hoping you are proved very wrong mate!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 20:54:49
Our defence might be slightly stronger someone above said.

Slightly????

Rob kiernan was a regular in the English championship and was linked with clubs in the championship after his side were relegated so I assume he is a far better player than mohsni and mcculloch.

Danny wilson capained the side thay beat us by 20 odd points last season so I assume he is also better than mohsni and mcculloch.

Davie weir is one of the best centre halves we've had for years so I assume he will be a better defencive coach than mccoist and mcdowall.

All these thing's together mean our defence has already improved massively.

Luigi and mullad.
We dropped 11 overpaid and hugely underperforming pieces of deadwood. So far we've brought in a few decent young players who will do 100 times better. Also academy players being brought in, and players like Ryan hardie and Callum Gallagher are also deserving of the their chances. Gallagher scored more league goals at Cowdenbeath, than Boyd did for us!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 21:43:21
if you remember we signed players from the top end of the spl last 2years some of the best players in that league at the time and they were not good enuff so that's why we need to set are heights higher this time English league 1 and bottem end of championship players is a similar standered to this old lot so why do people think they are going to be so much better.we can't think just because we are in the s championship they will be good enuff because the level they come from is better because it don't work like that its a huge club with very high expectations and it takes a certain quality of player to handle that in my opinion this is why we need to bring in a better quality of player asap.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 22:00:10
well said Edinbear86, personally I would maybe sign one proved striker who could get us a fair number of goals at the start of the season and put him up front with young boy hardie. from the stats are highlights I have seen he was a goalscoring machine in the under 20s so should give him a chance with either holt (if he signs) or another youth, calum gallagher just in behind to supply and pick up the loose pieces

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2015 23:15:34
I agree with most Danny wilson and holt not good enough to be at rangers with this type of signings hibs are laughing

I see a lot of "this player is sh*te", "that player is crap". Right now, what's most important for rangers is getting out of the championship. MW has his own ideas, his own style of play and his own vision. So before you judge any players I think we should let MW work his magic and turn them into a TEAM - something we have not been for seasons. Hunger, desire and a will to please the fans by winning games is what's required and I feel we are getting the right boys in to satisfy this.

Foderingham, Wilson, Keirnan & Halliday (90% done deal) are great signings. Some young lads for the fringes of the first team can only be good and we have a while before anyone needs to press the huge PANIC button I think.

Hard work will beat skill, if skill doesn't work hard!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2015 08:47:46
Danny Wilson is not good enough he was one of the best defenders in the country last season some rangers fans are laughable you need to realise where we are in these days.

Maybe we should just go for Messi, Ronaldo, Zlatan and Pogba.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2015 11:55:13
In relative terms its not even 09:05 on W&Ws first day. Give them some time to come up with the goods. Attracting good players to play in Championship is not a simple task -for example, looks like Winks and Wabara won't be joining us -this season.
Time to be realistic, get behind our club and ensure we gain promotion this season.

14 Jul 2015 12:29:03
I believe Hearts are looking at a compensation fee off around £100,000 for Halliday Worth it guys?

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jul 2015 12:43:42
Danny Wilson helped hearts to win the league last year. And when he came through the ranks years ago everyone was all Danny Wilson best defender we have. When he was sold fans where saying we should have got more for him.

People on this site have no idea what they are taking about. Last year the mentality of the players was the same as the past 2 seasons before. ( we will walk through this league ) but clearly that backfired on us! Now a new management and a few players with the squad we already got, I'm sure we will challenge for the league and win promotion. Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jul 2015 10:57:09
Pmsfl Danny wilson was nothing and certainly not best defender last season as well as not being good enough for rangers, who be signing decent names and talents as for walking the league they said that last season let's wait and see but if the signings so far are anything to go by hibs shouldn't worry

if so the name mentioned was Scott Roberts.

The player was not Jordan Thompson.

Thompson played the day before against Spurs for 60 minutes (30 at left back and 30 at central midfield). He then headed home to Belfast at night for the 12th of July celebrations.

No idea who the trialist was as there was no mention of a name anywhere.
