I dont see the big deal. Teams like arsenal, bayern have moved on to new stadiums in the last few years. If they can leave behind the grounds they were essentially born on, then why cant we change our name for a few years for some additional income? It will still be ibrox to us.

Why not rename the stadium???
Havent Newcastle just officially reset the name to St James Park after only a couple of years and its given them a right few bob in the meantime..................
Seems like a good deal to me

Agree1 Disagree0

Listen it will always be known as Ibrox. They can make some money by putting up a few signs. It will always be Ibrox.

Agree0 Disagree1

I don't know what the rules are with BBC being able to call it by it's commercial name, if not allowed to they will still refer to the ground as Ibrox! In Australia a few of the football grounds have been renamed but the ABC still calls them by the original name due to advertising restrictions on the national channel out there! So why not rename, it would be a great money spinner for your club!

Agree0 Disagree1

Diversification is the only way a club will increase its revene stream

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see any problem whatsoever with the BBC and stadium names. Watch MOTD and they repeatedly refer to stadiums such as Emirates, Etihad, etc. {Ed001's Note - that is because they have a contract, they are contracted to refer to them by those names when they sign the TV deal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been looking at pics of Ibrox for the past couple of days and at no point on Ibrox stadium does it say Ibrox statium,

It is the place that is called Ibrox not the stadium unless you pay to have the street and place of Ibrox in glasgow changed there will be no harm done in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

Take the money..............it will always be Ibrox
Onwards and upwards!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sod the money just keep ibrox as ibrox w.a.t.p r.t.i.d

Agree0 Disagree0

If changing the name changes the coffers in the bank account then carry on name away, it'll always be Ibrox
SCM

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal and bayern have new stadia hence the different names . Ibrox has been ibrox since 1899 , I think that's why it's so tough for a lot of fans to swallow . Income and sponsorship are important to us right now but no matter who wins the race to rename ibrox (if it gets that far) it will always be ibrox in my eyes .

Agree0 Disagree0

Ibrox should be ibrox dont change it for a few quid

Agree0 Disagree0

Because its not just a football ground, you are all quick at forgetting the memory of the fans who went to Ibrox and never came back. The two disasters should be the reason it is always Ibrox.

Agree0 Disagree0

It can never be changed that what happened at Ibrox happened at Ibrox!

If its called Sports Direct Arena or Tennents Super Dome, the history will follow that name.

The name is meaningless, its a name of the place nothing more, carry on calling it Ibrox whilst we make some money.

The easiest thing would be to call it Ibrox Sports Direct Arena or Tennents Ibrox Super Dome blah blah blah.

Agree0 Disagree0

We fought tooth and nail to keep are history and tradtions alive now people are sayin lets flog a part of history to the highest bidder.shame on you all sayin its just a name!

Agree0 Disagree0

What's the problem? You lot had no problem supporting a new team, what's the hang up with changing the name of the stadium? You've only been playing there a few months.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ticketus own the stadium anyway. Ask Bomber Brown.

Agree0 Disagree1

Stop thinking about tradition on how it shouldnt change think about the long term 1.5 million a year is brilliant and with other companies want to do it with us will only make the annual offer higher im ok with it it will still be ibrox to me and after all it is greens choice as he bought it

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Nov 2012 18:51:48
do people listen to what they are saying yes ibrox is apart of rangers history but they just want to change the name its still ibrox not as if there moving stadium

Agree0 Disagree0

To the tenth post to my op, i know the two teams i mentioned moved to new stadiums, but i wouldnt therefore say then its tougher for us. Id rather be renaming ibrox or incorporating a sponsor with ibrox than having the place tore down n us movin somewhere else. The teams mentioned will have fans in the future never having seen their team play at what was truly their home. Worst case is for us to have a few year with a sponsors name somewhere in the stadiums title. Fine by me, pay the money n lets get it done.

BlueNose.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree but not with a name like 'The Sports Direct Arena'. That sounds like a joke. Stadiums like 'The Emirates' or 'The Etihad' sound fine.

Agree0 Disagree0

'The Sports Direct Ibrox' would be alright because it's still got Ibrox in the name & we'll call it Ibrox regardless.

Agree0 Disagree0

If its such a great deal why did newcastle the club he owns go back to st james park?wheres greens money?wheres the so called investers?lies lies lies green out!

Looks like Dorin Goian will be back on Rangers payroll - Hows that 20,000 a week for a 3rd Division player!

Believable20 Unbelievable26

He's no on 20g a week . prob 8 at most.

Agree3 Disagree0

Sounds like he's got a big attitude problem. Wonder how that'll pan out in freezing Scotland in fourth div?

Agree0 Disagree0

The Italians have agreed to pay a large part of his wages for the season, if they get rid I don't see how they can refuse to continue paying him.

The worst part is that he had been a disaster with them saying he is not half the player he was with Palermo. I have to say I thought he was very dodgy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats the difference freezing at Elgin in the third or Ross County in the Premier? he fancied one why net the other?

Agree0 Disagree0

How does it sound like he has an attitude prob, he got sent off, and protested a penalty with the ref, players and managers do it every game, they said he wasnt half the player he was with palermo and glasgow rangers although you miss that out.

john

Agree0 Disagree0

There will be a termination fee!

Agree0 Disagree0

"Whats the difference freezing at Elgin in the third or Ross County in the Premier? he fancied one why net the other?"

Dont you know that its always nice and warm in the sphell?? Must be something to do with all the red necks they have over the 'we will sell our stadiums out' nonsense!

Agree0 Disagree0

How many high wage earners do Rangers have out on loan that could come back and drain them at the end of the season ?

Rangers turnover is not going to be much bigger in Div 2, will Goran be on £20k per week until his contract expires ?

Maybe CG is forecasting working capital next year based on a worst scenario. If the share issue flops I expect increased season ticket prices to balance the books.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Nov 2012 20:09:44
plz tell me where u get 20k a week form more like 6k

Agree0 Disagree0

He got banned for shoving a ref not just contesting a decision. Luisao of benfica got 12 games for the same thing. And Goian is on 14k at Rangers it was mentioned in many media outlets when he signed and when they were first taking about the players taking wage deferrals last season. Spezia can't just cut the loan shirt and refuse to pay the wages for the rest of the season. UNLESS he has breached a condition of his contract, maybe they will claim his conduct with the referee is a sackable offense thus giving them the right to cancel the loan. I'm not having that, but you know stranger things have happened.

Agree0 Disagree0

He is not on 20k a week! where did this figure come from?

MIKE ASHLEY wants to rename IBROX and call it "Sports direct arena" yea that will be right fatman

Believable44 Unbelievable18

Who honestly cares if ibrox is renamed? it is and always will be ibrox no matter what name its given...

Agree3 Disagree3

I think this could generate some much needed cash to keep us from falling back in to administration , wot u guys think. cg is turning in to a bit of a dark horse with all the lies he telling?
.........attilla...........

Agree1 Disagree2

I for one don't care if the name changes, provides much needed capital, Ibrox will always be the mecca for the bears.

Agree0 Disagree2

Did Ashley ever invest his million for shares?.
This story only says he's understood to be in negotiations. No confirmation.
What we do know is is that Rangers Retail, the so called joint venture between Rangers and Sports Direct is 100% owned by Sports Direct(Check it at Companies House.it's true).
I wouldn't believe anything Green says until it's confirmed.Thought Apple wanted the naming rights(they don't),
Deals with the Dallas Cowboys(no way say the Cowboys),What about Adidas?.
Where's the prospectus?.All quiet on the share issue now.
Fact is,Green has us,a new club,playing in Div 3.That's a lot better than it could have been.However,he's failed miserably when it comes to delivering on his promises. {Ed001's Note - to be fair, I feel I have to point out that a joint venture does not mean joint ownership. The ownership of Rangers Retail is irrelevant to the idea of working together.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely an arena is circular or oval shaped? Doesn't the word come from Roman arenas?
Ibrox has four distinct stands and is rectangular.

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with previous replies, we need all the financial help we can going forward and Ibrox will always be Ibrox, with no tv money etc then if it helps keep us afloat then so be it. There will be folk who don't agree with it but they need to remember how bad the last ten months have been and we don't want to go into administration again. andygers74 RTID WATP

Agree1 Disagree1

As i have posted before i am dead set against this. We have already had to endure many people trying to dilute us, close us down, tarnish our proud history. IBROX is our history, we are today all our yesterdays. why on earth would you want to sell this heritage from nothing more than financial gain, we do not need the money the now, not at the expense of our history. And if we do need money i would asking mr Green where it is all going, considering packed houses, TV revenue and interest from across the globe, coupled with slashed player wages. its not rocket science. And especialy in the context of also trying to float the club. I smell a fleecing coming on, so if we are going to be down again at least keep our name.
Remember its our history and heritage. Always remember on that day in 1972, 66 poor souls went to IBROX and did not go Home to their loved ones. It is known as the IBROX disaster, and we should never forget this or dilute its memory for the sake of a few measly quid.
Do you think they would allow any other memorial to be renamed, imagine the Wallace monument, renamed to the LIdl or Aldi Tower, do think people would say , yeh but we got a few quid for it, people would think you where mad.
It is one of the old most proudest establishments and so it shold remain. IBROX is its name.
We have already had to endure much ridicule as fans because of the greed of some of the custonians of this great club in persuate of ego and money, do not encourage it, or give alll those other fans against us, the ammunition to continue to do so.
Anyway have been in to Sport Direct, it is one step up from a Jumble Sale, is this what we want to be associated with?

Agree3 Disagree1

Happy to see renaming, but into whose pocket does this go... green and co ?

if so thats an asset stripped.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Nov 2012 14:09:57
i don't think we should be renaming ibrox it showed when newcastle changed their name that the vast majority of fan's did not like it also you see cardiff who had their colours changed and many fans have boycotted their games since.

i would be looking at the asian market if you want to make money all you need to do is snap up a promising youngster from there and asian fans would snap up rangers merchandise. we are not talking about millions and millions but it would be better doing that rather than renaming ibrox.

Agree0 Disagree0

So cause u dont agree with my post that makes me a smeltic fan! jog on ya eejit. FACT rangers are running the club at a loss possing a real threat of admin! FACT cg does tell lies so open yer eyes up answer smell the coffee
.........attilla.......

Agree1 Disagree2

We need any money we can get just now ,sports direct arena aint that bad

Agree0 Disagree1

Celtic fan here i grew up with parkhead and ibrox leave your name intact tell mr g to shove it honestly

Agree1 Disagree1

Anyone tht re-names ibrox is insane leave it as is the stadium is legendary and shouldnt be changed

Agree1 Disagree1

I think 'Ibrox - The Sports Direct Arena' is a great name and if Mike Ashley wants to give us millions for the privelege then good on him.

I one other person mentions Charles Green and 'asset stripping' i'll scream

Agree0 Disagree1

I don't have a problem with this. It'll always be Ibrox, no matter who gets the naming rights.
If we get a tidy sum for it, what's the problem?

Agree0 Disagree1

To the last poster: CHARLES GREEN, ASSET STRIPPING! (can you please let me know if you delivered on your promise and screamed?)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, I feel I have to point out that a joint venture does not mean joint ownership. The ownership of Rangers Retail is irrelevant to the idea of working together.}

Ed,you may be right but this is another deal Green announced that we've heard nothing about since. We've been told by Green that Ashley:
1.Will invest £1m in club
2.Has set up joint venture with TRFC regarding merchandising.
3.Wants the naming rights to the stadium.
I'd like to hear a statement from Ashley & Sports Direct confirming any or all of the above.
In the absence of any information I'm inclined to believe that "Rangers Retail(who started life as SportsDirect1 before changing their name in August)will just be a merchandising vehicle along the linesof JJB sports,ie, a lump sum every year and profits skimmmed of to SD. {Ed001's Note - I would assume that it was never meant to mean any more than Sports Direct paying to use the name anyway. I am not sure what you expect a joint venture to mean?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats the problem?

it means they will change the name of the stadium.

is it too complicated for you?

Agree0 Disagree1

Saw that coming when Newcastle dropped out.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think mr a is taking a big risk nae people will spend money in his shops look what happened to jjb nae people spent money in there shops they went bust

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, would we still retain the rights to the name Ibrox stadium? Not that it's much use to any one else, but you never know. {Ed001's Note - I would expect any agreement to simply be regarding a brand being put before the word Ibrox. Only for a limited period of years and then it would revert back to the original name, unless another sponsor takes over. The name would still exist, it would still be registered exactly the same, they would have to keep the rights, otherwise someone could jump in and use the name.}
