Read Rangers are scouting another Croatian, c f, Maric I believe his name is, leading scorer in their league, valued at 3 Million. Well that’s definitely big Lafferty on his way, reading in SM that he has problems outside of football, maybe he’s relapsed in the gambling problem he had? Pity if it is because it is an illness.

I saw this too. Although Barisic and Grezda have failed to live upto expectations this season, I believe next season they will be a vital part of the squad. If having these three gel properly, we could have a great trio on our hands.

Agree with you bigyin especially Barisic, if he can sort himself out I think he will be great next season.

I would rather see us look in the Finnish market. Few HJK players impressed in the friendly especially the young forward. He would probably cost us 1mil or under and we could unearth another kamara. I hope the 3 players we signed from croatia just needed time to settle and come good after a full pre season with us.

Here's a quick scenario for all you fellow bears out there. If the rumours are true that southampton want Arfield, would anyone think its a good idea to take the cash for him and just replace him with young Greg Docherty?
I think wee scotty is a smashing player but, if the money is good enough then why not?
One thing is for sure we need to offload some serious numbers of players next year.
Whats all your thoughts?

No chance. For £3M I would be keeping him. He's a great player. Maybe £6 or £7m then maybe.

I’d be holding out for 5-6 million too, that sort of money is nothing to clubs down south so if they really want him go for it. Would be a big loss as he has had a really good season but got to remember he is in his 30s now and that sort of money could go towards signing Kent on a permanent deal.

£3m is a bargain for Arfield, we should be looking at aroung £6m-£7m as the money in down South is astronomical!

Yogi i fully agree that we should take the money and take a gamble on young docherty. Could use that money for good quality younger CB or better yet a first choice left back.

Docherty nowhere near arfield's level and we should definitely not take that gamble. If we want to win titles we need to keep players like arfield. However if the money is right then we would find it hard not accept it, but we would have to replace arfield with a player of the same calibre and that player is not docherty 😕👍.

Hibs won't be able to afford docherty I'd imagine if he was for sale he would go for at least 1m.

I know we want to stop 9 in a row because what it means but i also want us to build not only a strong first team but follow what de boer was saying about copying Ajax and produce future first team stars that will have us dominating for years. From our strongest first 11 we have only produced 1 player. The rest have been bought in as first team players. Other than mccrorie none of our youngsters are getting close to game time which has to change or youngsters won't come. Docherty must get a chance he has went out on loan and did what he was told, i have saw him play a few times and have been extremely impressed. People forget that arfield wouldn't be the player he is now if falkirk hadnt took a gamble and put him into their first team as a youngster.

Arfield has been absolutely vital for us this season - practically the only incisive central midfielder we've got, bar Davis. I dread to think where we'd be without his goals and drive, but if a moneyed English club wants to pay 6m for him (doubtful) then aye, great. I'm sure we could get a more youthful, bonified attacking mid (or 2?) for that kind of cash, and I'd much rather see us do that than take a gamble on building a team around Docherty.

The sun newspaper reporting this morning that hibs are interested in our young midfielder, greg docherty. They would even consider getting doch on loan, if they couldn't get him on a permanent deal. I certainly would be keen for us to keep docherty at rangers.
I really do think he has a good future with us!
He's done superbly well on loan down at shrewsbury town, in what is a really tough league. Tell hibs to do one, as far as i'm concerned!

Yeah hibs can do one. but in docherty i don't see where he fits in to our side. Jack arfield mccrorie kamara davis are all better players.

I like Docherty and think he has a future with us too, he’s done really well at Shrewsbury and I’d bring him back for pre season before deciding on another loan. I do agree that he’s below those four in the pecking order, I also feel a fit rossiter could have an impact. Docherty could have another year on loan and like it to be in the SPL to see how he gets on.

I imagine we will want to take a good look at him pre season before deciding his next step. It’s not possible to say the others are better players until we have done this.

I think a years loan to hibs could do him the world of good. I agree that he’s a good player but I struggle to see him getting much game time especially if we sign another midfielder. I wouldn’t be keen to sell him just now.

It isn’t a tough league at all mate the standard is pretty poor. With work I watch it most weeks. The standard is awful at times. In saying that Docherty has had a good season. I’m not convinced he will be at Rangers next year thou. If decent money is offered from down south it’ll be accepted. Sunderland are keen on him I believe.

Correct paul. shrewsbury just survived relegation, as for a tough league? You must be joking, this is where warbs and mcparland got most of their dross from and they weren't good enough for the spl. I like docherty but I fail to see where he fits in👍.

Send him to another SPL side. Remember the behaviour of Hibs when we tried to sign Scott Allan? I don't see why we would help them at all.

Hibs wouldn't do us any favours so why should we loan them Doc. If we want to loan the boy out for another season fair enough but I wouldn't do any business with that shower.

I'd send him to Hearts instead! Not ready for us yet but he's going in the right direction. One more season of regular football should see him about right.

I might get slated but if we keep arfield and sign davis i would have no issues loaning him to hibs or even strike a deal with motherwell. Hastie fee could be Docherty for a season.

Unfortunately I don’t think Doc could get into current team and I expect us to further strengthen. Playing well for Shrewsbury is on thing but it ain’t like doing it for us in SPL. I like the kid but it will be another loan or him possibly being sold the most likely option.

Sending young doc to Hibs on loan
May benefit both the club for resale value and the lads education as we could see if he is premier league standard also we need to recoup close to 3/ 4mill for young doc.

Don't think he's that bad at defending. tav isn't exactly great at defending but he runs up and down whipping crosses in.

he might be a Croatian international but he’s not suited to the spl unfortunately and grezda is awful. We shouldn’t be wasting any more money in that market. If Allan gets this summers transfers wrong he should be sacked we need players to come in and hit the ground running straight away. Hard to believe we wasted 2million on grezda we can’t afford signings like that not to work out!

Barisic isn’t a bad player/ defender he just can’t cope with the demands of the game in this country and many of bigger and better players have fallen exactly the same.

As1974 - totally agree. Barasic is an extremely poor defender, not suited to the physicality and tempo of Scottish football.
As for his amazing left foot, you don't see enough of it in games.
That's my tuppence worth anyway.

Aye but Tav scores goals and has played about 55 games this season with about 15 goals I think. You can't compare.

Tavs goals have all been pens apart from 2 a think. wouldn't write barasic off yet. let him get a good pre season under his belt and then hopefully we get to see the quality player he his next season.

Its a big culture shock for the boys from Croatia. They wouldn't be used to the pressure or style. I wouldn't judge them until the end of next season if they are here still. Let them stay fit. I know a croatian friend and he thinks all 3 we bought are going to be top quality when they settle. Not everyone is a world beater in there first season.
