Walter Smith resigns as Rangers chairman. Statement to stock exchange shortly.

Believable77 Unbelievable27

It's actually a very positive thing.

The next very positive thing would be Ally moving on.

Agree5 Disagree7

No surprise there then. McCoist could be next. If he doesn't resign he might be sacked!

Agree4 Disagree1

Comment 1 Smith quitting is a worrying sign that he has no faith in the people really running the club.

Agree7 Disagree0

McCoist and his mgt team will not be sacked, that would cost around £2million we don't have

Agree3 Disagree0

Comment3 and where is the confidence smith was a competent chairman?
It is a good thing. Walter is not a Plc chairman.

And Ally isn't a good manager either.

These two critical roles need to be filled ASAP with competent outstanding individuals for the good of the club.

Agree2 Disagree2

Hows it a positive thing to have the 2 people with the club at heart move don't be stupid only person moving should be CG. he's AN EMBARRASSMENT OF THE HIGHEST PROPORTION

Agree5 Disagree1

@5 the £2m is how much it would cost to buy them out of their contracts - there's a difference between buying out the contracts and sacking Ally for gross misconduct free of charge!

Agree1 Disagree0

What is happening inside Ibrox? We must be told what is happening as there is clearly a lot of fighting going on. This whole saga has been going on for too long now, we are a laughing stock and it must end now.

Wullie - RFC

Agree1 Disagree1

There is not one thing that makes this a good thing. We have 1 Rangers man left and he has no power.

This should tell you that Smith doesn't trust those on the board. What is good about that?

Smith away, Green back, could only be worse if Green was Whyte.

Agree3 Disagree1

How the bears forget, why the hell does mCcoist get so much stick, a workman is only as good as his tools, but at Hollywood fc the tools call the shots. When smith walked rangers were as good as dead. There is now no one with the clubs best interests at heart, smith wasn't there for money, are the board, ( which are still not known) Better believe it, close the club and make an ncp car park, because when the legend walks and the fans turn on Ally, tell me, what's left?

No doubt I will get abuse for speaking sense ed, but it's simply the truth.

Agree1 Disagree1

For a man of Walter Smith's credentials to stand down there must be something seriously wrong here and it cannot ever be conscrued as positive unless it's a deliberate ploy to force down the share value to enable a new consortium to gain control. McCoist and his backroom staff are left hopelessly exposed now. where will it all end?

Agree0 Disagree0

We are a shambles. I fear the worst.

Agree5 Disagree0

I for one am sorry to see W Smith go he is a true Rangers man unlike the Carpetbaggers who have taken over our once proud club, Ally and all his staff should resign in block, a boycott could be playing into their hands, these people care nothing about RFC only their own deep pockets and they would sell the assets in the blink of an eye, If only someone or group of businessmen with Rangers in their blood could take over and give us back our pride.

Agree0 Disagree0

He can't be a rangers fan if he says walter going and ally is a good thing come on their is serious trouble behind the scenes and I don't trust charles green and his gang alone in ibrox he will do another whyte. will be intresting what smith says in the coming hours

Agree2 Disagree1

I fear for you guys, rangers don't need this crap, if ally goes and I think he should, because he will be made the scapegoat, Green is your problem, he was poisen from the start,

Agree0 Disagree1

05 Aug 2013 20:17:05
discrace what next? for the persons who think its a good thing have lost it. boardroom infiltrated by crooks n gangsters please someone sort this out am sick of these guys coming on tellin us about how great a club we are and great support we are we know this already they thing we are daft way all this crap.

Agree1 Disagree1

Shows you how right brown was and he's not exactly smart

Agree0 Disagree0

Time for McColl to put up or shut up. No games, no empty gestures. Traynor seemingly told some of the supporters at the protest Green will be offered a deal to leave with his side kicks or be forced out. if that's true then I reckon Walter will tell us he left out of conflict of interests as he will be part of McColls takeover team. If anyone fully trusts hat Green has the best intentions for Rangers at heart then they are living in cukoo land. Stand united bears, WATP

Agree3 Disagree0

He he he. a workman is only as good as his tools. well ally bought these tools. so who`s to blame! dd

Agree0 Disagree1

If someone doesn't come in and buy a majority shareholding thus moving all fannies we are humped man. Renew a season ticket, buy a strip. Get to f@@k. You'd need to be off yer nut

Agree2 Disagree0

My only concern is that if McColl takes over we will still have the same management team and I regret to say that McCoist, Durrant and McDowall won't take us far. Time for a quality management team rather than jobs for the boys!

Agree0 Disagree0

Time to answer the questions green why are you back who offered you this job cause I wasnt aware there was such a job if there was I would have applied not bad for a man that resigned 2 month ago. there is something going on guys for him to be back I fear whyte has something to do with this. I want to know about our money our future plans but more important I want our money to grow for rangers not the fat cats that see us as a fast cash project but WE SHOULD ALL ASK FOR THE TRUTH

Agree0 Disagree0

Does anyone know what J Traynor said outside ibrox last night?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2013 09:33:14
If McColl and Co do take charge then the first thing that they should do once they rid the club permanently of Green is to replace the current management team with some quality management and coaching staff.

MacDowall and Durrant are a waste of space and it is disappointing that McCoist has jeopardised his position by retaining these two failures. His lack of backbone in doing the right thing for the development of the team and his 'jobs for the boys' deserve to lose him his job.

He shows far too much respect for a bunch of Pub Teams when he should have his players totally motivated to go for the jugular!

Just as a point of note, I see that young Hemmings scored a hat trick at the weekend yet we didn't have a true centre forward on teh Park against Forfar!

Agree0 Disagree0

Very strange that someone who loves the club as much as Walter walks away in the hour of need again. Last time he did nothing, said nothing yet he was hailed as a saviour when he eventually walked back in. Then he tries to buy out CG, fails and then he joins forces with him, thus supporting him. I know he was a great manager however he has not shown the kind of anger I would expect from someone who has made a good life out of Rangers and now he walks away. again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bomber warned us a year ago. He was ridiculed. HUMBLE APOLOGIES BOMBER.

Agree0 Disagree0

Could Walter be positioning himself to become a member of a new controlling group within Ibrox?

Agree0 Disagree0

No statement on Rangers web site how transparent is that?

Agree0 Disagree0

Bomber warned us a year ago but Walter Smith had the SAME information then as Brown but he chose not to act upon it, he is as corrupt as the next person in this saga. Now is time to blow the whistle as silence means guilt in my eyes!

tv now reporting that Walter Smith has stepped down as chairman of Rangers.

Believable47 Unbelievable24

05 Aug 2013 13:51:14
Rangers chairman and former manager Walter Smith is expected to quit the club amid ongoing turmoil at Ibrox.

The former Scotland and Everton boss took on the role in the boardroom earlier this year after Malcolm Murray left the position and called for "transparency" over the situation at the club.

It is believed Mr Smith will confirm he will be leaving his position at Ibrox on Monday.

STV REPORTING HE'S STANDING DOWN TODAY.

Believable34 Unbelievable16

As far as I know he has said nothing regarding recent events I would have thought that the Chairman would have made some kind of positive statement by now - shareholders rely on these guys to protect their investment. The fans (34,000) have also made an investment by buying season tickets. Was Walter brought in to simply sell tickets, or what?

Agree2 Disagree1

Its a great shame in my opinion that Walter Smith took the job on in the first place, many will now view him simply as a ticket salesman and not a great manager.

Agree0 Disagree2

Not a great manager. are you forgetting 9 in a row? Coming back after Le Guen - steadying the ship and winning back to back titles? You are delusional

Agree0 Disagree0

He's gone, just been on bbc news 24, wish petrie and fenlon had the decency to do like wise

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it was ego operating over common sense. Anyone with boardroom business knowledge gasped at the news. He had to then sign off on all board decisions, rubber stamping agendas he didn't like. A naive old guy amongst sharp practicioners.
Who knows if he was in on other agendas. If he was he didn't have the experience nor intellect for such things.

Agree0 Disagree0

Now being confirmed on SKY and BBC

Agree1 Disagree0

Smith didn't manage Rangers to 9 in a row!

Agree1 Disagree1

Not a great manager, are you forgetting. please read my comment again.

The Stock exchange has announced today the club have appointed a new broker.

Believable21 Unbelievable10

Green's broker from previous company.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Board of Rangers is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Stewart & Company plc as corporate broker to the Company with immediate effect.

Strand Hanson Limited remains as the Company's nominated adviser.

Agree0 Disagree0

Knowing Walter was stepping down was this released today under the radar quietly?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we need two company's to do the job this is another drain to the already limited funds green really does like spending othe people's money us fans need to do something quick

SHARES in a property developer funding Craig Whyte's claim over the assets of Rangers have been temporarily suspended.

The move follows delays in the production of its annual financial report.

Worthington Group plc, which bought 26% of Law Financial Ltd, one of the ex-Rangers owner's firms which claims to have former Rangers newco Sevco 5088 as a subsidiary, asked for the temporary suspension.

Included among Law Financial's assets is the legal action brought by Mr Whyte against former chief executive Charles Green for the claim on the club's assets.

Believable13 Unbelievable24

There goes the book and film deals then. Mind you, they may have opted for a soap instead as this just seems to go on and on.

Agree0 Disagree2

I cannot believe what I am reading here, if Green and co stay the club will disappear for ever.

This is now about the who the manager is it is about who is in power and Green and co is bad news

I am worried that the club is going to end up gone forever

Jake

Agree1 Disagree2

05 Aug 2013 14:15:35
It was Green and co who kept things going!

Agree1 Disagree0

Green only kept things going because of the amount of money he and his cronies could make and if we don't do something with this second chance to get rid then there will be no club to support and if there ever was a time to say W. A. T. P it's now let get rid of the lot of them

Trust me on this fellow gers fans, one of my friends who is a businessman and is a major shareholder at ibrox told me that if Charles green & the current rangers board of directors can hold off mccoll, Paul Murray, frank blin & co from taking over rangers the first thing the board will do is sack ally mccoist & his full backroom team and the new rangers manager will be 100 % Derek Adams the current ross County manager, green & the majority of current board rate Derek Adams very highly, fellow bears this is a very reliable scoop!

Believable54 Unbelievable47

I firmly believe it.
The RC manager is impressive. He has a fraction of the money/ facilities of McCoist and almost held Celtic to a draw. His post match interview was very good.

Agree0 Disagree4

I love Ally and know him as he used to live around the corner from him, he went to my school and is a total legend! But I do not think he is up to the job - his tactics are poor and does not seem to be able to get the best out of his players - Ally your a legend but u don't have what it takes to be a top class manager - player yes, but those are gone

Ekbear

Agree1 Disagree1

So the choices are as follows-

1. Charles Green and Co stay in power, sack a manager who is well out of his depth and replace him with someone who at least knows how to be a manager and then Green plunders our club for whatever value it has left.
or
2. Green and co are booted into touch, replaced by genuine Rangers men not in it for quick profit, but for the good of the club and Ally's position is safe as one of the worst managers that has ever been at our club.
mmmmmm it's a tough one.

No excuses Ally! Green never got us booted out of the cup at the Weekend, You did mate, you!
Forget all the mince about not being able to play our new players blah blah blah. The team that played should be able to beat part-timers, full stop!

Agree4 Disagree4

Everybody in the world knows he's just so bad. How worse can it get? We were saying that last year. He has to go today. He really does. Whilst the issue is still hot. Ally went public last season blaming the players himself and saying these players will get me the sack. Remember? So his anger at green is unjustified as he criticized them himself. He needs to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

People get a grip and get off ally back some fans nee d a reality check. you are deluded to think we are world beaters. allys hands have been tied for a long ti me he's went through more for this club than any other rangers man. give him time and backing and when his hands have been un tied and theirs stabilty at the club then judge him on results. no other manager will make a difference in his situation

Agree2 Disagree0

To the guy above saying people get a grip Ally's hands are tied. You need to get a grip mate. Nobody believes that party line from Jabba anymore. Are you sitting in an office at Murray park?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ally picked the team, he was humiliated on saturday by a bunch of part timers, there should be no more excuces, the players he has are full time pros, earning 25 times more than the players the played against, and were humiliated and its an embarressment, to many times it happened last season, the players are not good enough the manager and backroom staff are not good enough and should be sacked NOW, also Ally is now in an untenable position after his outburst which was extremely unprofessional and makes this club a joke, he must be sacked, and stop defending him and the players, they are not good enough to play in the jersey, end of story and have to go

Agree0 Disagree0

Am no in a office at murray park but I have seen this many times the fans are so fickle they think a new manager will solve all problems and we will win cups . first thing that needs done before anything is to sort the mess out behind the scenes. when ally can play his new players and theirs calm behind the scenes we will be stronger and consistent

Agree0 Disagree0

Walter smith set to step down today or tomorrow so hope the get ally out army is happy. with walter leaving it clears the way for charles green to assume the chairman position and sack ally. you are so focused on sacking the manager you miss miss the big picture

Agree0 Disagree0

Tjis is his 3rd Season in charge and he record is very poor. I've been a season ticket holder for last 15 years and whilst he has been restricted in budget compared to others he still has the best facilities in Scotland. He still has the 2nd largest budget. He has NO excuses. We have been hearing how fit the team are this season, yet can't see off part timers in extra time. Look at the Morton score, 2-2 after normal time, 6-2 after extra time. That's where the fitness should have told and it didn't. His tactic are terrible. We are short up front, he knew we could not play new guys in LC yet let's Kane Hemmings go? It's time he left, pushe or jumped I don't care. He is a legend, will always be a legend but he is no manager and no coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

Here we go again sack the manager sack the manager its the usual fans who go on a mission to sack manager do you not see the power struggle at ibrox you should be more concerned about getting behind the people who want our club for the right reasons rather than stick a knife in the back of a man who is trying to build a team for the future

Agree0 Disagree0

Fingers crossed then - Green and Co put their money up, the so called blue knights II, did not, simples!

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh dear, it simply beggars belief. Why oh why would Derek Adams leave a premiership job, in probably the best run and most stable team in the whole of Scotland, to move down the leagues to RFC! Goodness me, if the 'we don't do walking away' wasn't embarrasing enoough, here is the Chairman, legend, WS, on the cusp of doing it! Surely, some of you may have noted his timely return was solely meant to entice the bears to but seasons tickets. let's face it, RFC are a total laughing stock, bad enough being out played and knocked out by Forfar, but the management! Ally & his team are ideed the worst ever. Struth will be turning in his grave.

Agree1 Disagree1

The ideal would be for McCoist to go and take Tweedle De and Tweedle Dumb with him, then McColl and Co. , take over. I can't believe that any ambitious Rangers fan believes now that McCoist can take us forward. He gives far too much respect to a bunch of Pub Teams and doesn't appear to be able to get the best out of the players at his disposal.

For me, McCoist should have replaced his backroom staff long before now. He has played a sterling role off the park but McDowall, and sadly, Durrant have shown nothing to suggest that they have the skill set to adequately support the manager.

Agree1 Disagree0

Totally agree with the person 4th from the bottoms comment super ally has done brilliant in my opinion its the board that is messing our great club we should have left green out he's a tit only says things to get fans to like

Ally McCoists blue and white army!

Neil warlock is in the frame for managers job at rangers

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest, you can see something in most of the arguments. Unfortunately the truth is the club is a complete shambles. To get things right on the park, things need to be right off the park and they clearly aren't.
Ally's selfless service helping guide the club through the darkest days in the clubs history are beyond criticism. However, I don't think that Ally can take the team forward on the park and is seriously found wanting against part time teams in the lower divisions and therefore, how would he fare against stronger teams in the top division?
There seems to be little support/input from his back room team either and collectively they are responsible for how the team are set up to play and preparing the team for games. There methods are not convincing.

The Ross County manager is a top manager and is a good Championship standard manager in England better than Lowas who just left to Millwall, so he would be about a good solid mid-table team at least. Bring him in

Agree0 Disagree0

Omg. See all u turn coats that celebrated winning the league at the end of last yr. ally done the first part of the job he needed to by getting us to the next stage. Yea we maybe got beaten by Forfar at the wkend but the squad we will be able to play come September will be a hell of a lot diff and in my opinion be able to deal with 95% of the new Scottish premier (yes I know we ain't in it) it took ally a good few yrs to become the legend he has as a player. I believe he will do the same as a manager. SCREW THE HATERS. RTID. WATP
