Heard a few times Lafferty plays for hearts for peanuts as they payed off a gambling debt . No idea if it's true but it's why the deal is complicated. Hearts have got him by the balls and rightly so if they bailed him out. As I said no idea if true.

My understanding is hearts helped lafferty pay his debt, by managing his wages for him. This came from the player himself when he thanked Ann budge for her help and hearts help.
