As its international week I would like to gauge what chances our country has to qualify from our group, for the 2018 world cup in russia. We must beat lithuania at hampden on saturday, simple as that! This is scotland manager gordon strachan's last chance at achieving qualification for a major tournament. I rate wee strachan as a manager but if he fails then imo its time for change and fresh ideas with the appointment of a new scotland manager paramount, my question I'll throw out there is who would we want to replace strachan as scotland manager, who has the ability and the best candidate to follow strachan and become the next scotland manager? Should be interesting!

SFA have already said they want to keep Strachan for the nxt Euro Qualifiers, seems like the balls in his court although no matter what happens I would like to see a change, maybe Wright from St. Johnstone. Or what about Neil from Norwich he may be available at the time but def want to see a change someone that's going to give youngsters decent game time and actually use the lads when selected!

absolutely disgraceful attitude mate.

no wonder we fail as a nation each year.

My country northern ireland proved anything is possible so i wouldn't rule out Scotland maybe getting 2nd place. Not that it really bothers me either way but I'd like to see the 4 home nations qualify for the same tournament.

Strach has been a good manager and we have to reach the play offs at least. If not then his time has to be over. I think this can be our time, with England in turmoil we have to take advantage. I am not saying we will beat them home and away but I believe we can take points off them. Games like Saturday is our big tests, its these games where we always fail to turn up. Lithuania, Slovakia and Slovenia are all going to be hard games but we must win at home and take something away. I predict 3-1 on Saturday.

As for Andy stating the managers he wants in, Wright is no where near good enough for Scotland manager and Neil is still young and would never consider the job. IF Strach does leave then I would be looking at a manager such as Steve Bruce or Paul Lambert. I know Bruce is English but we have to stop looking within Scotland. In an ideal world we would bring in a Sir Alex Ferguson or Graeme Souness but that's never going to happen.

Aye mon the Scotland. I don't rate Strachan. Should've lost his job after failing to qualify for Euros. That's his one job and he failed so should've got the bullet. His insistence on fielding players who don't get a game for their club in English championship/ premiership and acquiring the services of Englishmem who's granny had a Scottish terrier dug, is infuriating and embarrassing, respectively.

However, so far so good with this campaign. Let's hope the lads keep it up. Maybe now that thumb is on the bench for Celtic, he'll get s game for Scotland. That seems to be the pattern. And as much as it pains me to say, he's by far Scotland's best striker. Yer that dumpling Steven Fletcher gets a game before him. á lá welcome to the world of Strachans Scotland.

Geez it a rest blueblood they are only discussing the what ifs. Hardly a disgraceful attitude. And you think that's why we fail as a nation every year? Lol.

I like Strachan's honesty and he really is faced with limited options and I don't see how any manager can do much more. There isn't one great Scottish footballer today and everything about the national team is average. It's no great mystery why they haven't qualified for a world cup in 18 years.

Benny 0812, '' Strachan has been a good manager'' you are at the wind up i assume. The only people who can say that are individuals like Steven Fletcher and others who he has continued to give caps to regardless of the rubbish they produce on the field, and of course keeping his best mate with a nice little earner as assistant.

part a the reason we do is fans like him and the "medea" TYson fury

there is nothing about strapon to be negative about yet, last qual we had freak result.

get behind the team and stop spouting pressure before they have played.

Strachan is as good as it gets for Scotland I'm afraid. I can't think of any decent manager that would take job alex neil too young to accept job like that.

{Ed001's Note - is Alex Neil decent? He was awful in the English Prem and was too arrogant to listen to advice.}

Strachan is a pals act kind of guy!
he plays his favourite players reguardles of, form, potential, nationality, and fitness so why would we want bstarchan in charge.

I know it won happen but i'd love big walter to go back and get us qualified this time his time as Scotland manager we played brilliantly and it was the call of rangers that took him away from country duties so i'd hope he could come back into the job and play Scottish players and throw away the no good players .

I believe that we have a group of good players that could make the national team look a lot better than the one he has been putting out on the field.

Strachan is even worse than George burley. hopeless no game plan at all, picks his players he likes not the ones on form. him and Darren Clarke would get on well lol.

Some could say the same about our manager Ed, regarding advice.

{Ed001's Note - I guess so, I don't know enough about him, I do know it has been said to me more than once, by a large number of people now, about Neil.}

Rangeken I don't see how has not done a good job. We don't have a good squad. In the last qualifiers we were unlucky. A last min goal against us v Poland, just beaten twice off Germany and drew and beat Ireland. We actually only had 1 bad result v Georgia.

15.) 07 Oct 2016

After watching the Slovakia v England game I reckon we could finish 2nd and get into the play offs. However we would need a bit of luck with the draw. As for a potential replacement no one really springs to mind.

W15, I've an Alsatian dug that knows more about football than Strachan. He would be ideal at barking out instructions to the players.

Ask O'Neil to leave the ROI job and take over Scotland. He would be right at home with them!

Personally think he is doing ok with the squad he has .
Think though he is being loyal to one or two ( both fletchers) .
Would replace those two with McCormack and Halliday .
We won't be world beaters but don't think we are as bad as
some people are saying .
A good organised side without World class players can give any team a game, Iceland prime example .

I like strachan as our national manager and more importantly I rate him but if he doesn't take us to russia we do need to freshen up and change him, someone ti come in with fresh ideas, my choice for the next scotland manager would without question be wee billy davies who imo would be perfect for the national job at this stage in his career, he's a fantastic coach with a tremendous football brain, although wait a minute I suppose huge jarse has an alsatian dug who's the perfect candidate and also better than davies as well as strachan!
