I don't care what anyone says, Danny Wilson is vital to our style of play. When Hill plays there is little to no threat on the long ball, he's much slower and imo is a worse defender overall.

Is it a coincidence that we seem to play our best football when he is in the team? The centre back playing out is vital to our play, if they can't move the ball quick enough, can't make a turn or can't get our midfield on the front foot performances like that are turned in.

Danny Wilson shouldn't have been dropped unless there were niggles and imo should be one of the first names on the team sheet. Did anyone see the 3-4 quality balls he played in behind against hearts? He isn't a forward player but he adds a completely different dimension to the team since Haliday can't play long balls when receiving it. For me Wilson has been one of the unsung hero's this season, injured when we were playing poor and if I'd like to see his stats when playing.

I can't really agree. Far too many of Wilsons long passes from defense fail to find anyone. I felt Hill was outstanding today, he intercepted loads of through balls, won everything in the air and was constantly talking to and organising his team mates (like an actual captain) .

A defender should defend first and anything else on top of that is a bonus.

I like danny wilson but totally disagree that he's a better defender than clint hill. Quite simply he's not mate! Clint hill is a far better defender than danny wilson at this moment in time! Don't know what you're watching when you say clint hill is much slower than danny wilson! Both aren't the fastest centre halfs but remember hill is 38 now whereas danny wilson is 14 years his junior. Danny wilson ain't fast mate! Forget the long diagonal balls being passed by wilson for a moment mate, because first and foremost a centre half has to defend FIRST, and clint hill is a better defender than danny wilson at the moment, simples mate!

I'm not saying Hill was bad or anything, I'm just saying I feel that our play is dependant on his play, and I think you're underestimating his success rate and ability on the ball. He is the best centre back on the ball, and for me a future Scotland captain if he can keep developing. Who is better on the ball at Cb in the SPFL? Where has Wilson played this season where he has looked defensively weak? He's suffered from injury all season I just think his play goes completely under looked and under appreciated at times.

And forget the long balls? It causes the other team to have to sit deeper and because Wilson can find a pass into midfield it gets us forward much quicker. You're argument is simply "he's simply not a better defender" "don't know what you are watching when you say he is much slower" (he is clearly a yard slower than the rest of the TEAM) You make an argument about a talented player developing and say "we must play the 38 year old because he has been doing it for 14 years longer". You clearly have no idea how our style of play works, you're lack of knowledge on the subject is glaring since you don't actually make any arguments or points you just use a bunch of incoherent statements without giving context or basis on why you think that. If that's the breadth of what you have to say you have little to offer.

I do agree to the extent he is a better ball player and he can find a front man I see what your getting at, but how bad does that reflect on our midfield? We are relying on DW to play killer passes lol We must address the sitting midfield position pronto fair enough barton and rossiter haven't worked out but halliday isn't the man for the job.

I agree with Danny Wilson being our best ball-playing centre half.
He offers a different dimension from Hill/ Senderos.

I think he still has a bit to go defensively - aerially he gets beaten far too often and can be lackadaisical.

Hill will start the Old firm alongside Kiernan and Wilson will play LB if Lee Wallace is unavailable.

sorry mate it comes back to the same thing for me! "clint hill is a better defender than danny wilson"! a centre half must be able to defend first and foremost! clint hill is a better reader of the game than wilson, better in the air than wilson, better positional sense than wilson, better organiser than wilson! not much more to say really. that covers it for me, says it all!

Jorge The Hammer, i honestly think that either lee hodson or andy halliday will play left back if wallace doesn't make the old firm game mate! Probably hodson with tav going back to right back!

Can Hill and Wilson not play at the back together? Although Kiernan has improved a little he remains weakest link at the back. For me back four of: hodson, Hill, Wilson and Wallace.

Clint hill is best defender at ibrox imo and I would have no hesitation in giving him another years contract. Now I've got a nice bottle of red in front of me so I'll wish everyone who's cared enough about our club to post on here a merry Xmas.

Well fod had to pull off 2 fantastic saves due to Clint Hill not even being able to get goals side.

Cee is the only person using his brain. That is exactly why I made the post. In what way is he a better defender than DW? He wins more headers? look at the stats you'll be surprised.

I can look through half of your profiles and find posts such as "over the hill" you flip flop because you don't actually understand what your talking about.

Merry Christmas to all. JorgeTheHammer, I agree that Wilson is probably your best centre half, but I should point out, there is no 'old firm' any more. Although I must confess, I am looking forward to the derby next week, only because it does bring back new year memories from the past. I hope everyone stays safe.

The back four for the OF match will be Tavernier, Hill, Kiernan and Hodson. I'd play Halliday, Holt, Windass in the mid with Waggy, Miller and McKay up top. I think Garner would be a certain to get sent off and am not really that convinced by him anyway. Garner, Dodoo and Forrester to make an impact off the bench.

Think Hill is solid and has more experience than Wilson but Wilson is our youngest centre back with by far the biggest potential, He grew up a Rangers fan, he captained our youth sides, came in with big Dave weir and was sold for a rising fee of a total around 3-5 million, why is Andy Haliday a guy for me who isn't Rangers quality more of a fan favourite than this guy?

Fans are fickle I can't remember any time this season Wilson has played and we have looked weak going forward and at the back but every time it's any other player there with RK we don't get on the front foot the same so hill has more defending to do in general.

I reiterate is Hill really a better CB than Wilson defensively? I think Wilson wins balls in the air as often, can pull out more last ditch challenges because he's faster (hes still a yard faster than hill I don't care what you say so we always play deeper with hill so it's harder to get out at the back) and is easily the best ball player in that position that Scotland has had in a very long time, if not ever.
