Afternoon bears, on the topic of the players we need or missing piece of the jigsaw for our 1st 11. An attacking midfielders/ deep playing front man that can ghost into positions, play between the lines, pick a lock and pick up at least 10 to 15 goals a season.

I would say Ovie was supposed to be that man however for whatever reason it didn't work out. These types of players are obviously very expensive. Hazard one of the best at the mo. Nobody in Scotland fits that bill to do it at a high level, game in game out. Arfield is 60% at a push of what we need. he's got the brain / legs for it but not the technical ability to do it consistently. (last min chance v Villarreal springs to mind) Niko was that player but we got him 10 years to late.

We ain't going to get somebody in their prime so a youngster or somebody with 2 years left in the legs is our shop window. Davis, will he get the goals? I just wonder if we are looking at any of the players we've faced in Europe, we couldn't get the ball off Marcos Tavares from Maribor he's 34, his legs look gone but wouldn't be surprised if we went for somebody from such a team.

I would send my team to the Baltics and scour the place for the next Modrich. Come on Hearts and Dundee, no wait come on Aberdeen just to see Avril Levien greeting and moaning, LOL seriously though come on Hearts.

There is more people in London that Crotia and Scotland. Why don’t we have a youth team in London?

Intelligent post, and food for thought, and indeed a conundrum, let's hope we find the answer, c'mon the Gers.

Parky, I stand corrected, thought Croatia was in the Baltic region. Croatia is actually in the Balkans, hopefully you get the jist. These countries are a bit like Scotland 50 years ago, with poverty and low pay the youngsters are out and about kicking whatever kudger or floater football they can get. Till mum or dad shouts them in at 10. Wonder if they have the van over there and 10 cent mixtures. I remember the time my dad throwing a 10p out the 3rd floor window at half 9. The days, anyone for a game of Kirby or shall we just make a massive crossbow out of the washing line and pegs.

LDM, its the playing population that matters. To get a real gem ie 1 in 5 million palyer you need a massive playing population so you have a real chance of getting a gem. Even if one is out there they have to be picked up at each level to make it to senior level. that's why Scotland had an abundance back in the day and why the likes of Brazil can choose 5 first teams. Going back to London with 10 million population sad to say but your more likely to get a world champion knife thrower than the next Messi.

PS when I talk about a gem I mean a real gem eg. Messi, the real Ronaldo, Dalgliesh, Cooper, Shearer, Toti, Rudd, Baxter, Zidane, the Laudrup brothers etc etc not the mediocre were are led to believe are fantastic ie most of the English Premiership. We are losing sight of what a world class player is IMO.

Question, when was the last time Scotland produced a world class player. Alan Macgregor.

Sangil, very good player but he has to sustain this level of performance over a number of season at the top of a league or winning trophies to be called world class. Right now he's won nothing and never been to a final euro/ world competition with his country. At the mo, just very very good. imo.
