Mark, our 2 best performers came from England in Butland and Sterling both out of contract like Johnson. Would be excellent bit of business if we could get that over the line. IMO would be best full back in the country.

Any player 28 + coming from England etc and on a free that’s got a half decent pedigree is either injury prone wanting too much money and no sell on value or all three, getting the right young player from one of the EPL academies at the end of a deal is the gamble that can win on trophies and huge sales.

Johnson is one I picked out a couple years ago as possible rangers signing but I now think it won’t happen and feel we are seeing another Cooper where we continually waste time on someone who has already said no.

Johnson is affordable. If Goldson leaves and his 38k wages become available and Johnson apparently wanted 50k then there’s a deal to be struck by time you add a win bonus, appearance fee and clean sheet bonus on top of 30 k basic he would sign IMO.
