Ed001, hope you're well mate.

I wanted to gauge your thoughts on the proposed European super league.
Do you think it will happen, soon? Do you think it's a good idea? With the riches if the EPL, sky, CL etc, do you see any of the big English teams moving?

As a Rangers fan, playing in a terrible league, run by idiots, with very little money on offer, I think a league like this is the only way for us to make good money, on a regular basis, so on that basis, I would love for us to be involved. Does that make me a sell out?

It would be good to hear what the general consensus is across the sites?

Thanks mate!

{Ed001's Note - it will happen one way or another. The Champions League is already gradually morphing into a version of it. The only question really is who will be in charge - UEFA or the clubs?

Personally I hate the idea, I don't really enjoy European football all that much, so it is not for me. I want to beat teams like Everton and United most of all, as they are the ones that I have friends or family (or both) that support them. I really dislike Madrid and Barcelona and the way they cheat their way through everything, while acting all high and mighty. For me I would rather have nothing to do with them, but money is the main mover in everything that happens.

It is just creating the same problem you have in Scotland - familiarity breeding contempt. It was exciting playing in Europe before the league system, you rarely saw those teams other than when you played them and that might never happen in a knockout set up. So each match was intriguing and exciting. Now it is the same old clubs every year and you know that they will be there again next year too. Bores me.

The thing that will make it difficult is that a lot of European nations are starting to put laws into place to protect their domestic leagues and to stop something like a breakaway super league being possible. So I think the likelihood is that UEFA will keep appeasing the clubs and evolving the Champions League into a Super League.}

agree with everything you said and i do not think it would be to long before this super league evolved into 2nd and 3rd divisions because the clubs you mentioned want all the cash and want to make it near impossible for clubs like rangers to get anywhere near.

Ed, like you I find the CL boring with the same teams every year. It is my opinion that the CL lost its appeal when UEFA allowed more than the champions of a country, into the CL. This was the start of the present, them and us. This is just another step in the financial stakes.

{Ed001's Note - I totally agree, allowing runners up etc in made a mockery of it. And I say that knowing full well that 2005 would never have happened under the old system. It is not the same as it used to be.}

I wish we had that luxury Ed001, but we need tournaments like the CL, mate, so that we can make money or we're goosed.

I have to laugh at Rangers fans who say the CL has lost its glamour and such. ??? Aye, maybe for the big clubs, but when a Rangers fan says this, it's laughable!

That's right Mark, I'm sure it used to be on ITV. Available to everybody until the money men strutted their stuff.

Seeker, I don't think you can even watch the highlights on terrestrial tv anymore.

The thing that's killing the Epl game is VAR and the diving cheats who roll over holding their faces then get up when they see no one is paying heed to them.
