Well done Rangers and well done SG tactics right.

Okay, since a few of us are saying SG is not the man to take us forward who do we think is?

I'll make a list below of some realistic targets who I think can do the job.

I'll start off with who I would like to see take over, Slaven Bilic. Been in management a few years now and also plays a good style, has fire in his belly and will know the championship market well for our budget.

Next is mainly ex players with managerial experience and ex managers that know what it means to play for Rangers and in no particular order:

Ally McCoist
Davie Robertson
Ian Ferguson
Barry Ferguson
Alex McLeish
Dick Advocaat
Gio Van Bronkhurst
Stuart McCall
Davie Weir

And a few others I think have the experience to do it and in our price range:

Eddie Howe
Chris Wilder
Sam Allerdyce
Scott Parker

Possibles ( from a post Oct 2019 of out of work managers, these 3 seem credible but probably back in work now)

Roger Schmidt
Marcelino
Ralf Rangnick

I'm pretty sure there are others out there but I think all of above are realistic, albeit not everyone's cup of tea and I'm not saying all of them are mine but thought I'd open it up for discussion seeing its been asked a lot lately, over to you chaps 🤔.

Steven Gerrard is not the man for us? . get a grip. of course he is. Name any manager u want and clowns like you would want shot of him.

Its not the manager it's the players. We can't buy the players that they can.

2.) 23 Feb 2020 22:25:27
OMG. The end.

3.) 23 Feb 2020 22:28:28
Terry butcher for me . a good Rangers man.

4.) 23 Feb 2020 23:11:12
Long time since I read such nonsense please read through your list some are premier league managers why would any of those come up here others have managed in India, Australia some have already been here I’m glad you said at the beginning a few of us.

5.) 23 Feb 2020 23:21:16
Jeezo I Hope Gerrard never reads this site, absolutely unbelievable. The guy’s our manager and yes some of his signings haven’t worked out but every signing is an element of a gamble. Look at the ones who’ve worked out great for us! We are MILES better than we were under our last 2 managers.
Everyone to their own but I for one will back Gerrard until the day he leaves, and guys, be careful what you wish for!

6.) 23 Feb 2020 23:26:07
Van Bronkhurst for me.

7.) 23 Feb 2020 23:30:37
John Brown? 😂😂😂.

8.) 23 Feb 2020 23:53:57
Although I still think and believe Stevie g is the man to CONTINUE taking us forward as he already significantly has, I will chip in just for fun with Gheorgie Hagi, Brian Laudrup and Ronald de boer . That’s who I would like to see take the reins, 3 footballers with extreme vision on the park will hopefully have it off the park too, and Hagi Snr has been involved in management already 🤔.

9.) 24 Feb 2020 00:29:18
Sam Allardyce in our price range? Did u see what he was on at everton? also one of the worst managers ever, ruined every team he's been at since Bolton mate. back to ally mccoist wow.

10.) 24 Feb 2020 08:29:41
Bilic? Who’s about to take West Brom to the EPL will leave to join us? 😂
Super Ally the manager? 😂😂
Ferguson from Kelty Hearts? Failed at Clyde? 😂😂😂
I won’t bother going in as I would run out of emojis!

11.) 24 Feb 2020 09:03:54
Dutch - we might not be able to buy the players Celtic can, BUT we should be able to identify and buy players who can beat Hearts, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, St Johnstone etc.

12.) 24 Feb 2020 09:59:56
Stuck Bronkhurst on three million a year in China. Dream on.

13.) 24 Feb 2020 10:21:28
as bad as we've been since the new year, we're 20 odd points better off than the rest of the league.

14.) 24 Feb 2020 12:36:19
Good to see some posts actually backing our manager.

15.) 24 Feb 2020 13:04:20
I mean if we could get them I would take GVB or Chris Wilder in a heartbeat but think both would be a stretch. But someone with experience, not another rookie.

The ideal would be someone who has experience but also understands Rangers have to win basically every game domestically, so GVB ticks both boxes. You didn’t have Frank De Boer in your options. Probably wouldn’t be my choice but he’s another realistic option.

16.) 24 Feb 2020 13:06:50
JC please no ex players we are bad enough wanting ex players back the last few years. I like bilic but he won't co. e if he gets west Brom promoted. I like sean dyche. No nonsense has years epl experience took burnley into europe YES BURNLEY. And he would boot some arse.

17.) 24 Feb 2020 13:01:09
Be very careful what you wish for. 👍.

01 Feb 2020 21:05:42
I like most fans like SG and want him to succeed but if he continues to play the same formation and tactics then he has hit a plateau that would indicate he can take us no further so we would need to look elsewhere.
What's people's thoughts., has SG taken us as far as he can?
I would give him until the end of the season to see if he can adapt if that fails then the club must move on.
Yes he has done a good job but when we can't move forward then we reassess.
Thoughts?

jctheger

1.) 01 Feb 2020 21:14:43
No chance imo can’t risk a newbie to stop 10 got to let him keep going.

2.) 01 Feb 2020 21:22:07
jctheger, thoughts? Okay, I think you're crazy or drunk. Gerrard has had years in the wilderness and the excesses of three useless managers to overcome before even starting us on the right road, and now you want him binned just as we are getting there? I said at the time he was appointed that the manager would need the whole of his original four year contract and that still stands. I watched this club when they won just four titles in 22 years. I've seen the best and the worst times at Ibrox and we are now on the verge of the great years once more and because of a blip or two you want to destroy it all and start again? Go and lie down, man.

3.) 01 Feb 2020 21:32:15
I get what your saying Blue blue sea as no guarantee a new manager would make a difference but this is when we need to be diligent and maybe pay extra for someone who ticks the boxes.
If SG can't adjust I don't see the point in doing the same thing over and over again only to get the same result.

4.) 01 Feb 2020 21:51:14
Agree when he took over we were 25 points behind in the league that year people were saying we would need 100 million to get near Celtic. well we’ve got a lot closer in a short time we’re not quite their but with gerrard in charge we will get there, binning him would be huge mistake.

5.) 01 Feb 2020 21:56:55
Covenant - I did say give him until the end of the season, if he can adapt and have a plan B or another system to play that works then absolutely he stays to challenge for the title as he would have shown he can improve the team, but the question I'm asking is can he.

Surely if he can't and we see performances like the last 4 a lot more you can't tell me you would be happy with that.
As I said the club needs to move forward, if a manager at a club that demands trophies can't achieve that then they must look elsewhere.
Again, I'm not anti SG but just starting to consider the options.

6.) 01 Feb 2020 22:03:21
I hear what your saying jctheger however Gerard needs to stay. Although, we've become to predictable now with formation and selection and opposing managers have the whole week to counter it.

There's an element in our support who think Gerard is beyond criticism because of who he is but he needs to look at making 3 or 4 changes because at the moment it looks like he doesn't know how to fix it. Time will get it right (I'm sure) but unfortunately, I think they're going to get 9 and 10 before we get this right.

7.) 01 Feb 2020 22:43:50
The Covenanter well said sir.

8.) 02 Feb 2020 00:36:28
The covenanter, yes mate, here here.

9.) 02 Feb 2020 08:56:04
I think SG has had us playing some tremendous football and had a really good run of results, but the team are now under performing and losing their confidence as is clear to see. Once the confidence returns we will be fine as we have the best squad at Ibrox for a good few years.

26 Jan 2020 19:54:59
Man, I usually try to remain positive even in defeat and look for a way things can improve BUT after that today where do we go?
We are such a one tactic team with limited options on the bench ( when was the last time we had a sub come on and make an impact? Middleton v Villareal I think) , how can we change this, I think we need to get loans in as it seems we don't have anymore cash to spend on the players needed.
I think we need another striker, one that has a bit of height and presence and good aerial ability, another Candeias type of player for the right hand side as without Tav we are rubbish there, Aribo limited in that position, either give Patterson a chance or get another right wing back in and to be greedy I'd like a no. 10 but not Windass. Next 3 at home and they are away next 3, if they don't drop any points then I'll have to ad it chances are slim but think they now have some momentum building.

Jcthger, don't panic pal, we have the beaten of our rivals,

13 Dec 2019 07:22:46
Great to qualify for next round but we blew it again tonight. Chance to finish top of the group which I'm sure gives the winner of the group and extra £2m but no, our bottle crashed. I try to find some positives from the negatives but I can't tonight apart from we are through. Looking at this from a different angle and thinking where can we improve or what are we doing badly because we really need to sort our mentality out. Against decent teams we just don't seem to be able to finish them off or to be able to hold on to a lead. We crumble when a team presses us and comes at us. Thought the 3 subs Young Boys tonight changed the game, something SG must sort out as I have never seen him make a sub that changes the game or even try to change the system during the game. We have 3 tough games coming up and I fear more points dropped against Motherwell and Hibs away if we don't sort it out, sorry for the negative post but I'm concerned with lack of winning mentality at the moment.

jctheger

1.) 13 Dec 2019 08:23:07
Young Boys had nothing to lose and went for it.
Nothing tactical genius about putting extra strikers on.
They needed to win going by other results.

2.) 13 Dec 2019 08:33:40
Winner of the group gets 1 mill and 2nd place gets 500k with getting a draw and not a win we lost out on 700k euros last nite.

3.) 13 Dec 2019 08:59:39
I understand the disappointment but remember where we have been and where we are going. A few years ago we were struggling against Annan and Stirling and watching some dreadful football played by some dreadful players, then while the dogs were barking at caravans Pedro was standing in a hedge arguing with fans as we lost to Progres. We were thumped time and time again against celtic. Now we are completing on 3 fronts - a glamour euro tie in February, very unlucky to lose the cup final and if we can win our next 3 games we go into the final game before the break with a chance to top the league.

4.) 13 Dec 2019 10:26:48
Christ, I dread to think what the reaction on here wouldve been if we had gotten beat last night. We're in Europe after Xmas for the first time in 7 years! Kent, who according to some has been p*sh since he's been back, set up Morelos too score last night! We've got the Europa League's top scorer. We're 2 points of the top of the league. SG has signed an extension to his contract. Davis, McGregor and Defoe all set to sign contract extensions.
Merry Christmas.

I'm behind SG however I do agree with some of what zikos is saying. Put Europe to the side he hasn't achieved much for us domestically. Last season apart from 2 old firm wins and a good away win against the sheep he struggled tactically against the teams that put men behind the ball and had no plan B. I actually think he got lucky when Morelos got suspended and we had to play Defoe and change our shape which freshened it up and took teams by surprise.

I was hoping this year we would have brought in the big target man for such games, whilst yes we won against Killie and St Mirren we did struggle as it seemed we played the same way but tried to do it better. sounds familiar.
For me he has to the end of the season. If we are 9 points behind with nothing changed in regards to learning how to break teams down ( how much time does he need to learn ) or getting out thought against Celtic then I think he has to go.

Agree, Docherty has what our midfield is missing and that is energy and drive. Not sure if he has the final pass as not seen enough of him but its simple, doesn't fit into SG's system.
I expect him to go at the end of the season.

Thestigno1

Things I have heard and read are big Katic had a few words to say about being dropped, Morelos and a few others were supposed to have been annoyed at SG calling them out over poor performances in interviews, and there was supposed to have been something after Docherty and Alfie had a fallen out, maybe why Docherty has no future under SG.
Not sure how much truth is in them but you never know as things certainly not going well.

I think it depends if the board sit down with SG and have an open air chat, if he can admit he needs to have more than one tactic and willing to change when necessary the yes, he stays. If however he says he is playing the same system then he should agree to leave as it's not working and won't work over a full season again next season.
I hope he can see his failings but at the moment results and performances are not suggesting he has and his managerial inexperience is showing up big time.

Thestigno1 - I agree with what you have said but will add that I think something has gone wrong with the management and squad, possibly the rumours of a rift or SG losing the dressing room may be true as the players are not playing for him, in such circumstances the manager goes. Who comes in I don't know either but in my opinion someone who knows scottish football.
SG has been the architect of his own downfall with 1 tactic to be honest.
For those of you willing to stand by SG then fair play to you, enjoy 2nd place until he goes.
