Was reading Bill Leckie in the Sun, anno silly, but he suggests expanding the SPFL, also that Doncaster n the loonies at Hampden only really cater for the old firm, what's your thought guys on expansion, does it dilute a limited product or is it beneficial in any way to allow that, or to allow them to manufacture the league to their own ends? )

I’d expand it to 14, play each other twice (26 games) then split into two 7’s, play each other twice again would give us a 38 game season with 4 old firms. I also like during the second half of the season one team per week get a rest week.

I’d also move the year to start in March and run to ideally November in not December. Sky would pay more for summer football as they just don’t have enough football over the summer months, we’d also give the smaller teams more chance to get through the qualifiers.

Obviously less games v them but in long run should improve league. there's not many leagues like ours where we play them 4 times and do daft split for last 5 games. Bonkers.

Absolutely agree with your 14 league Dado and have thought the same for some time now.
Only problem’s, would be a completely fair split after playing all teams home and away, gets an extra 2 teams in SPFL, fair scheduling after split, they’re never going to do it as it’s far to sensible.

All reasonable thoughts, but what about that shower at Hampden, feel they exist to serve themselves and believe they are doing a good job, not exactly massive revenue generators are they, think we are right to call them out at every opportunity?

May be reasonable Dado but Euro's and World Cup may scupper that idea.

I fail to understand how less games against the tims should improve the league, Paul? Less games against them and we can say goodbye to the TV money from sky. It may be crap in comparison to other leagues, but do you honestly think anyone out there will pay us more money when there's only 2 games against them, and more against crap like Raith, Airdrie etc? Not a chance!

Also, if we did expand the league, then there's more chance of plastic pitches, and that is something we definitely don't need.

I'm personally sick of playing the rest 4 times a season, anything that reduces the number of games played, 19 would be a good number with 2 relegated and 2 promoted the 2nd after a play off game at a neutral venue. Just my suggestion folks for what it's worth.

Something needs to change that’s for sure.

Roofe how to we not make it less teams then and play them 6 ot 8 times? In long run a bigger league should in theory bring through more home grown players and make it a better league but this will never happen. But way we have it now is stupid.

I had considered the World Cup and euros but how many years does that honestly impact us?

It would be worth a discussion but my understanding against my logic is the small clubs need the Rangers and Celtic matches to keep the lights on, I. E. Livi might get either Rangers or Celtic at home twice as of today. They’d only get these games once under the format suggested.

It’s actually interesting that these clubs are now wanting an expansion, I think these clubs have historically backed the old format.

Fair points guys, Dado and Boyblue amongst others, I agree it needs to be discussed, changed at least looked at.

I think it’s should be more teams than 14 should be 16 or even 18 playing each other twice the split carry on is just nonsense. Less games also which is a good thing. For what we get off sky it’s horrendous anyway but it won’t happen for that reason. Playing teams 4 times a season is boring as hell that’s why it would make the league better and that’s why 14 teams won’t work as you are still playing half the league 4 times. Feck sky. Playing teams twice would make the old firms games even more special and vital.

in my opinion the league won't be expanded due to 1 reason, SKY

if the league was expanded meaning playing each other less, then there wouldn't be 4 OF games each season and let's be honest, that's only reason SKY give the league money

without those games Sky would pull plug.

Leckie is just an ass who sees himself as standing up for the masses and his wee diddy clubs just like Cowan and Cosgrove. To say the SPFL only cater for the OF is a joke, if it wasn`t for the OF bringing in revenue most of these teams would be going bust and the league would be at an even lower standard . The TV deal is based around 4 OF games as its the only fixture SKY really want, I`m pretty sure both OF clubs could make more money selling these games themselves to SKY. Last week it was announced that the other Premiership clubs were getting a record pay day from UEFA due to the OF performances in Europe, they have done nothing to earn it and the SPFL make things as difficult as possible with the fixture schedule but oh aye they only cater for us . They are all parasites .

Aye wslgers4ever Leckie is without doubt similar to Cowan/ Cosgrove (worst) . What's interesting is that the response to my original post by the guys on here, shows that there is discontent with things as they stand and most would advocate for change. The topic was open for discussion/ is this not what the site is for. Would u rather have a league of 2, then u wouldn't need 2 worry about fixtures and the little clubs can stay little.
