Will depend on how Morelos returns from his Columbia visit.

He’s more than entitled to go to Colombia don’t know why people are upset about that I’m sure his family will still be there and he does a hell of a lot of work for the community with his foundation.

Not sure why some people are so desperate for us to go 3 at the back, especially in domestic games (and even more so at home) . If you watched the Scotland game, if it hadn’t been for the 2 very late goals it would of been a pretty disappointing and ‘turgid’ 1-0 home win over a very poor Cyprus team. Throughout that game Scotland constantly struggled to break them down and due to playing 3 at the back found themselves short in attack whilst having 2 sometimes 3 players covering at most 1 Cyprus forward. Scotland also have the benefit of having Tierney in the back 3 who constantly breaks forward and is very good at doing so and who could easily play as a midfielder.

Now if we play 3 at the back with Soutar Goldson and Davies, we’d have 3 out and out CB’s, none of which are capable of operating as Teirney does in that position and breaking forward at speed to cause a threat. More than likely meaning we’d be sacrificing an attacking player just to have another CB on the park.

I know some will say ‘but just now we have 4 playing at the back’. But we all now our Full backs already operate more like wing backs in most games anyway. I mean in a lot of home games we have so much possession Goldson spends more time in the opposition half getting involved in play than he does in his own half as it is. I really do feel adding in another CB would just make it harder to break down these teams that just sit in against us.

Why would we revert back to playing one up top when we have been playing two up top?

Lucky we aren’t Scotland then lol.

Soutter actually bombs forward all the time. Maybe stop worrying about teirney and remember what our players have done. He was famous for it at hearts.

Well play 2 cf coldo them my team would be Mcgregor Soutter Goldson Davies Tavernier Cantwell Raskin Yilmaz Kent Tillman Morelos.

Gers 3421 it's basically Tavernier rm Yilmaz lm, we play in the opposition half anyway in our league, Soutter is good at bringing the ball out from defence.

12.) 27 Mar 2023
27 Mar 2023 17:00:58
Gers I'm only saying this because it was Beale that mentioned trying 3 cb's.

No we don’t coldo.

@Gers1978 three at the back can work tremendously well. Yeah you may have 3 at the back but it can free up playing a defensive midfielder and gives us much more going forward as our wing backs will constantly be higher up the pitch which in turn gives our wingers/ inside forwards more of a free role. Going forward we will be harder to defend against and it suits the players we have.

I'm with Beale on this I can see 352 which reverts to 541 when opposition has ball but I think united being at bottom of table he will stick to 4312 for now.

Ok well we’ll see in regards to playing 3 at the back. Personally I don’t think it suits the players we have at all, we only actually have 3 CB’s (ok and King) so if any get injured we can’t even play it. And Raskinloyal, I was only using the Scotland game as an example of the pitfalls of 3 at the back, not making any comparison in terms of quality of team (which I’m sure that you understand) .

Beale, I know it would mean Yilmaz and Tav in midfield, my point is in the vast majority of games they already virtually play there, even with currently on 2 CB’s. And yes it may mean we could play without a holding/ defensive midfielder, but I’d honestly prefer 2 CB’s with Jack or Lundstram ahead of them, both of which would still be more creative in the final third when needed than a CB coming forward.
Remember we did try 3 at the back previously under Gerrard, away at Motherwell (lots were calling for it then too) and we were woeful, I believe we ended up drawing the game?

It could very well be an option to work on for some European games, but for most league games I just don’t see the benefit.

I certainly wouldn`t have played it against Cyprus on Saturday . Clarke sacrificed a striker to solve the dilemma of getting Tierney in the side. I also wouldn`t play it in most of Rangers` games but I might try it against Celtic, it would help defend the 6 yard box better, push our wing backs forward without having to worry so much about getting caught out and force their wingers further back. If it turned out to be a turgid match and we won 1-0, I`d take it.

Gers 1978 it’s come about because we have to try and find a formula at the back to try and beat them.
Our current back four no good enough.
The worry is we haven’t played that system so a big risk.
It still requires discipline and concentration.
The other option is to deploy Lundstram as a defender / holding midfielder as that worked in Europe last year.

I'd like to see us go three at the back - one of the many variations of the 3-5-2.

GK. McGregor

LWB. Ridvan

LCB. Davies
CB. Souttar
RCB. Goldson

RWB. Tav

CM. Cantwell
CM. Raskin
CM. Hagi

CF. Tillman
ST. Colak.

Dee Cee,
Playing a back five still means your full backs will have to be disciplined when we defend and not constantly going forward.

Your centre half’s would be isolated if that was the case.
I do agree that this looks like the way we may go against them but it will still need a very good display defensively from the whole of the back five to get a result.
Time will tell if that system works for us with current personal.

Tillman ain’t a C. F. ehl.

23.) 28 Mar 2023
27 Mar 2023 22:50:50
I believe the system in our league would be 3421 or 3421 Mcgregor rcb Soutter cb Goldson lcb Davies rm Tavernier cm Raskin cm Cantwell racm/ cf Tillman lcam, cam Kent st Morelos, yes we've got 3 centre backs but only 3 defenders on the park Tavernier and Yilmaz will be playing far higher up the park, this system could work, especially against them.

24.) 28 Mar 2023
28 Mar 2023 00:38:22
Storm Tillman could play that position easy he'd get many goals playing there he is far closer to goal, Morelos slightly infront of him.

Mean play that system against everyone apart from them.
