Moring, On the back of a conversation about enhancing the game I was thinking is football going down hill or stagnating. The reason i'm saying that is I don't think you can beat the 90s or early 00s for the players on show, the football domestically and internationally what a decadeish that was. what's your favourite decade of football.

It’s over complicated now, too many rules n stoppages, lack of proper natural wingers ruins the game. Over tactical.
Most of the time if I’ve got football on a don’t even lift my head to watch it anymore.
It’s became a very boring game.

To many players not wanting to get dirty or get their hair all messed up. Huge wages have gone to some players heads. Players going down as if they've been shot. Players faking injuries. VAR and possibly blue cards. OAFT.

I can see why they are looking at this blue card idea.
Football is the only sport i can think of where the player breaking the rules gains an advantage.
The blue card would not work though as it would mess the flow of the game. It would be 10 men behind the ball and players feigning injury throughout the 10 min sinbin period.
The only thing that would stop the cynical/ professional fouls in football would be if the punishment was greater than the advantage gained. To fix it there would need to be a penalty kick awarded against the offending team no matter where the foul occurs.
Personally I think that would be a good idea and would cut that type of foul out of the game because managers would not allow thier players to do that.
For time wasting refs need to use the existinf yellow card rule more consistently. See time wasting constantly but rarely see a booking for it. Exact same with backchat to referee, referees need to be more consistent in using the yellow to stop that.
For a player getting treatment, don't allow them back on for at least 2 or 3 minutes after play restarts. How many times do you see an "injured" player being allowed back on immediately.

I think it's evolving and unfortunately it's finances that evolving it.
All the new rules are either designed to slow the game down or to protect players in order to make sure they can play more games - therefore increasing the marketing/ advertising opportunities.
Unfortunately it's aligning with American sports. won't be long until we have football franchises.

Football is fast becoming a non contact sport, it's farcical. What is more, the level of refereeing, especially in Scotland, is the worst it has ever been and unfortunately those running Scottish Football are not fit for purpose.

Think we're getting our nickers in a twist about left and right backs etc. Probably because its the way we've played over the last countless years relying on these positions as part of our attack.
PC may have other ideas however and only requires competent average left and right backs similar to Greg Taylor and Antony Ralston. Crazy to spend cash on defense.
all you need is a reasonably well drilled robust defense and spend more at the sharp end. Plenty of teams built on that strategy, perhaps PC has that idea. eg when BB plays for Croatia, he is rarely in an attacking position that's left to the big money players. We will wait and see over the coming months how this will unfold.

I agree TJBB56 to an extent that our priority just now, isn't to spend big money on a left back but if as expected yilmaz goes, we still do need one mate ? That's why i've said on here a few times now, to go and hopefully sign owen beck on loan to get us by until the end of the season, with hopefully a permanent deal at the end of the season ?Also if we can't get beck from liverpool, i'd go for current FCTwente left back gijs smal, who's out of contract in the summer and no big transfer fee/ lay out required here ?.

Solid defenders win leagues
Just look at goals we conceeded year we won league compared to seasons before and after it’s scraping games 1 nil when having off days that win leagues hard work and organisation
We scored more goals last season than year we won league so pretty obvious defense was a problem when was last Time Celtic failed to score vs rangers in a game that mattered
My argument would have been more Devine is good enough for a backup for few months.

Spot on TJBB - defending should be our priority and fb, s need to attack at the right time not marauding up th ( e park at every opportunity - much though our defence SO FAR has been solid it is at present a goalscoring threat that is severely required - Tic don't have the greatest defence in league but their defence can usually cope in games due to their forward line putting them several goals up in most games and taking all the pressure off the back line - when we don't punish teams we ultimately put our back line under more pressure and stupid mistakes occur (our tippy tappy passes across back 4) goals win games but scoring freely helps the defence out greatly too!

Thats a real shame, I wasn't convinced about the rumours however there seems to be evidence something is not quite right with attitude. With the loss of his mother the lad needs a bit of slack and a chance to get on the right track regardless of Rangers and Hearts. A football club may not be the right environment to sort himself out and may need professional help.

All fare points folks. What I was getting at is football does evolve to enhance the game ie pass back rule, offside rule, yellow for time wasting, 3 points for a win etc, mnf, 4k all designed to enhance the game and potentially more goals or at least attacking football. IFAB are trying to enhance the game again but i'm nor sure they are the correct body to do this. Perhaps then a working group from all of the above.
