Sorry Ed, Hope you don't mind?

Another post on Martin O'Neil but I'm curious to find out everyone's opinions on this matter?

Trying to gauge everyone's opinions?

what's your take on Martin O'Neill getting the Celtic job full-time?

Love him or hate him, Martin O'Neill knows exactly what it takes to build a successful Celtic side. His first spell brought trophies, dominance in Old Firm games, and a winning mentality that Celtic supporters still talk about today. He's also just guided Celtic to another league and cup double, which is a big reason the club have decided to move to keep him on.

From a Rangers perspective, what worries you most?

His ability to build a strong dressing-room culture?
His experience in handling title races?
His knack for getting the best out of players?
The fact he understands the pressure and expectations at Celtic better than most?

And more importantly, what do Rangers need to do this summer to stop Celtic retaining the title?

Better recruitment?
More strength and depth in midfield?
A settled defence?
More consistency in the big games?
Stronger mentality when the pressure is on?

Personally, I think O'Neill's biggest strength has always been creating a team that believes it will win and a physical Team, Rangers need to match that hunger, recruit smartly, and hit the ground running from day one if we're going to wrestle the league back?

Interested to hear genuine opinions from Rangers fans. Are you concerned by O'Neill's appointment, or do you think Rangers should be focusing on ourselves rather than who is in the Celtic dugout?

to me it's a statement from Celtic, they think he can outfox Danny and retain the title, there also going to invest this summer

Would like a good healthy debate on this, as think it could be interesting?

08 Jun 2026 17:37:17
Stig, we should be very worried.

He's a winner. He knows how to win in Scotland.

Expect all his signings to be over 6ft.

Expect some older English Prem pros who have maybe lost their way a little and need to rejuvenate their careers, Hartson, Sutton, Guppy, Thomson.

He'll build a big strong team with aerial threat and likely 2 up top.

We are in for a hard fight for the title.

08 Jun 2026 17:50:12
Stig, Mon can certainly get a tune out of average players. I just can't stand his patter, and having to listen to him for another year is painful. No doubt he will improve and knows how to get them to win. It's just a case of can we improve more.

I believe we can, with a full preseason and some quality in, and some deadwood going out the door. Apart from the split, the season recovered from the Rm disaster. We need to address our bottle and rectify poor decision making from our defence in particular.

08 Jun 2026 18:31:56
Up to us. Does not matter who's in charge across the city, one thing for sure, if we don't get a strong spine of team in place, then he will win another title.

09 Jun 2026 09:31:06
Personally I'm not worried one bit. Celtic have a massive overhaul coming this summer, even bigger than ours, and I don't think they'll get it right.

I appreciate they have the money to burn, but history shows you they won't.

Agree with the fact he'll load the team with 6 footers, but so do we.

Genuinely happy to see him get it over Keane, who's Ferencvaros side pumped us last season.

09 Jun 2026 12:12:49
Zikos, the feeling was if Keane got it, Oneil would still be involved as a mentor of sorts, so it would have been same anyway.

09 Jun 2026 17:21:05
Think Keane will do alright as manager and will be in England before long, not a fan of him personally, as played for them but the mhanky mob might regret not going for him in few years time hopefully come next May to be fair.

09 Jun 2026 22:32:55
Many weren't worried that season there either, Zikos. Didn't turn out too well for us. O'Neil is superb at motivating his players. As for the overhaul, they very rarely get it wrong. In fact, they've won something like 14 out of the last 15 titles. Although I'll never worry, only a fool would write them off.

07 Jun 2026 21:00:40
Can't believe Martin Oneil is carrying on as manager for another season
I know he has younger coaches around him but still I didn't think he would want another year
Life in the old dog - DR will need to match his energy passion and fight
MO will have a team ready for this coming year if he didn't think he could do it he wouldn't be staying on

Reckon they will spend and he will build a strong physical team like he done in the past

We will need to be able to match that physicality and fight in every match

To be honest he's probably there best bet at retaining another title

It down to us to match them

What's everyone's thoughts

He got them back into and winning a double this year so we can't knock him.

08 Jun 2026 00:05:42
Stig, I just hope he doesn't have any health issues over the season, mate.

I think he's too old to commit to what he has done. I really do.

More than capable manager for Celtic, they literally couldn't find with all the money in the world. He's the best candidate for them there is.

Age wise, I feel it's a lot to ask of him.

I like Martin Oneil and hope he sees out season in good health and moves on to enjoy his retirement.

08 Jun 2026 09:15:05
Can't say the same, Stevie. Really can't stand the man, but fair play for taking on another season. Hope they get relegated. πŸ˜†

08 Jun 2026 11:40:53
Another year with a 75 year old wearing a shell suit. πŸ˜‚

08 Jun 2026 12:07:31
O'Neill's football maybe isn't pretty, but the man just wins game with a bang, average squad of players. They will invest in better quality this window.

08 Jun 2026 13:19:25
Exactly, Beale, mate. He will win the league ahead of Danny Rohl. Ye can put yer mortgage on that.

08 Jun 2026 15:47:28
That's why I was wanting to gauge thoughts on it.

He's been here and done in two spells now.
Knows how to build a winning team and they will invest.

Let's hope we can take the fight to them this year?

08 Jun 2026 17:38:21
Yea, Stig, we can only hope and get behind the manager and team.

I'm just not very convinced Rohl is capable of beating O'Neill over a season.

We've seen as much.

08 Jun 2026 20:11:22
Bring back Big Eck. He always had the measure of him.

08 Jun 2026 20:51:06
Seeker, Big Eck isn't keeping very
well these days, mate.

08 Jun 2026 22:22:18
I'd heard that, Stevie. Hope he feels better. I've met the big fella a couple of times. He's a real gentleman.

08 Jun 2026 22:49:39
Agreed, Stevie. I really don't mind O'Neill. I respect his passion.

Hope he manages them in good health (at his age, the stress is significant), but hope their trophy cabinet is empty next May.

09 Jun 2026 11:02:50
Guys, Celtic team was already there, they weren't all of a sudden a bad team, they were asked to change tactics half way into the season and couldn't, then changed back to what they were at the beginning.

Mon didn't make them an overnight winning team, they were already that.

09 Jun 2026 12:15:26
Seeker, it's one of those that only gets worse in time.
Mate. Shame for big man. What an absolute legend of Scottish football.

09 Jun 2026 17:11:22
So sad to hear that Stevie. Such a shame.

09 Jun 2026 18:14:37
Absolutely, mate. From same hometown as myself so he's a legend to us all up here.

05 Jun 2026 18:59:54
@EHL, I presume you are still at Hearts, are you impressed with who Hearts are looking at with the Tony Bloom factor.

04 Jun 2026 20:54:03
See the Green Goons are at it with the board again over the possible Robbie Keane appointment. Let's just bury them once and for all had the perfect opportunity last season. Hope they go with O'Neil and we wipe the floor with them as they were rotten and we made a right mess of it

05 Jun 2026 10:08:39
A team for everyone!

I don't think so somehow.

05 Jun 2026 11:38:48
I wouldn't want him either after managing a team in that god awful place. Now, attacked 6 countries in past 2 years, still trying to play victim, unbelievable.

05 Jun 2026 12:26:48
What about Miller then, their football people doing a job.

05 Jun 2026 14:44:47
We have a difference of opinion, Struth, and that's ok, mate. πŸ‘

05 Jun 2026 15:52:20
Boy blue no probs. πŸ‘

05 Jun 2026 19:58:15
Boy blue yet am sure you will use plenty israeli products like smart phones. hard to choose when and when not to be offended by a country πŸ‘

05 Jun 2026 20:38:50
He's one of them though, all he done was manage a football team. Wants to come back to UK and manage Celtic but the Palestine sympathisers are having none of it. Let's hope they live to regret that decision

06 Jun 2026 00:27:49
Peterpan loyal, it's not hard for me, mate, I do and always have used Samsung. You obviously don't know me, mate, but I'll give you a small idea of some of my favourite things that I will never buy again, Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Starbucks. Not had any of them for over a year, from eating/drinking them daily. I'm not saying I've boycotted everything they own, as it would be really difficult, but I really try my best not to if I can.

Tbh I feel a lot healthier for it as well. It's just something I'm really passionate about, mate, followed the Palestine/Israel conflict for past 20 years. I take it you're an Israeli sympathiser, Alloa?

06 Jun 2026 08:56:29
Boy blue ....

{Ed001's Note - sorry but bullshit and lies are not allowed. You have no idea what you are talking about, there has never been any defending, only attacking and the rest is just idiotic nonsense that you must be extremely bigoted to believe.}

06 Jun 2026 11:43:01
Take it a post has been erased somewhere. πŸ‘

06 Jun 2026 12:36:30
Well said, Ed. Maybe it's best not to get into it on here, guys.

06 Jun 2026 20:40:46
It's completely wrong and embarrassing not to have a manager just because of a country he worked in. That's all I'll say on this matter.

{Ed001's Note - sorry but it is not at all. Embarrassing is Keane for taking their blood money. It is like going to South Africa in the apartheid era, except much worse, you have to be a s**mbag to take the money.}

07 Jun 2026 14:57:33
Cannot understand the abuse he's getting, he's doing a job managing a football team, not a member of their government, far from a fan of the Israeli elites etc, but the common man woman of Israel are no different from us, keep politics out of sport at all levels.

07 Jun 2026 17:45:07
I will just stay out of this one.

09 Jun 2026 22:45:42
Coopersdad that's not true though is it? As every person in isreal serves in isreali army, therefore complicit in what's going on.

03 Jun 2026 20:25:42
What's people's thoughts on Robbie Keane possibly becoming the new Celtic manager?

I know he done pretty well with Ferencvaros, but is he decent, could he do a job for them.

Please keep comments appropriate. I won't reply to any bigoted, sectarian or phobic crap.

03 Jun 2026 22:20:28
Don't really know much about him, Gazza. Had a look, he won a league in Israel and Hungary, didn't win it last season for 8 in a row. Celtic fans don't want him either.

03 Jun 2026 22:21:52
Gazza, this might be the only answer you get then. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

03 Jun 2026 22:52:54
Celtic fans currently protesting at the possibility of him being appointed.
He took over a dominant Ferencvarcos team and won the league first season, brought in some of his own signings etc. and blew the league this year but won the cup.

Would be a massive gamble as they have as much of a rebuild this year as we do, either team gets it wrong, it would be disastrous.
He will get zero grace period as first blip, the sharks will be out.

04 Jun 2026 06:59:15
Strange they not wanting him now. Was one of the main ones they wanted before Mon came back.

04 Jun 2026 08:03:27
See the banner outside the stadium, "Desmonds and Keane, F##Β£ Off", charming fansπŸ˜‰

04 Jun 2026 11:28:47
Hope he gets it, just to see the meltdown from their fans. πŸ€•πŸ€•

04 Jun 2026 13:43:20
Gazza, it's what Rangers do, not them.

04 Jun 2026 19:46:55
I understand that, John. However, they are our biggest rivals and challengers. And also Hearts seem to be pretty active in the market and making improvements already.

04 Jun 2026 22:48:07
Gazza, firstly, I hope you are in good health.

Secondly, John is our secret weapon and is 100% correct. The minute you become reactive about what your competitors may or may not do, you are screwed. We need to build the best version of ourselves. That's all Rangers can control. Organizations that obsessively focus on their competition often suffer from tunnel vision.

Instead of charting an independent course towards success, they constantly shift priorities to match the competition. Often, it is either too late to do so or results in a pale imitation doomed to fail.

Let them appoint whoever they want. Let us build the best version of Glasgow Rangers and let the other do the worrying!

04 Jun 2026 23:04:47
Kaiser, I don't believe they ever wanted him, if they want to sell season tickets they shouldn't either.

04 Jun 2026 23:23:22
Correct Bb4, in fact, I think he left Ferencvaros before he was pushed. He managed to lose the league despite all the state funding they get. He also annoyed me for sucking up to their revolting ultras.

02 Jun 2026 09:02:12
Just read there that them lot are looking at a group of MON, Robbie Keane with Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney. Hate to say it but that group of 4 ticks all the boxes for them that we want ticked for us imo.

02 Jun 2026 12:30:48
Interesting to see if Keane gets job after all the hate he got from that mob when he worked in Israel.

02 Jun 2026 12:51:57
What has Keane done as manager?

02 Jun 2026 12:52:12
Couldn't think of 4 worst people to see celebrating another title win. Rangers need to get the finger out and soon.

02 Jun 2026 12:52:46
Mass, I thought it was either Mon or Keane; and if Keane came he would want Brown, and 2 others.

Maloney wants to be Director of Football, again I think I read that a week or so back.

But they were looking at ex-Celts, you are right. I am mixed on that as just needs the right coaches wherever they come from imo.

02 Jun 2026 14:38:25
Keane has won 3 titles - in Israel (plus a cup) and Hungary with 2 different clubs.
But I'm pretty sure there will be a huge backlash against him from Celtic fans.

02 Jun 2026 15:40:07
Never won the league in Hungary this season, first time in 7/8 seasons, yes for working for an Israeli club, Mph.

02 Jun 2026 15:49:28
Didn't he win it the previous 2 seasons then?
3 titles in 4 years in 2 different countries is not too bad.

02 Jun 2026 18:00:14
I've not got a clue what he's done, Mph, why I asked, not a man I pay any attention to.

02 Jun 2026 18:04:06
Only read about him not winning the league recently.

03 Jun 2026 16:42:05
Angus, there are rumours Martin moved upstairs and Keane as manager.

03 Jun 2026 23:00:38
Celtic fans do not want Keane as manager. Guy at my work has been moaning about it all day.
Only way they would accept him is as an assistant to O'Neil, as Maloney is moving into a bigger job (something else they don't seem happy about lol).
They all think they will be getting 30m+ for Engels this summer, who can't get into the Belgium squad, but some of our fans can't see us getting more than 12m for Raskin.

Seen they just offloaded Palma for 3.5m. They always seem to get those sort of amounts for fringe players and we just give them away.

04 Jun 2026 23:07:02
No chance Keane will get any capacity anywhere at Celtic.

05 Jun 2026 10:29:48
You're the man, agree 100%, can't think of anything worse than having to watch that lot celebrate anything.
