Was just reading there how if we sign shanks before World Cup starts, and if it's a free it's even better, we get ยฃ200k for him appearing at the World Cup? lol

24 May 2026 13:54:07
For every day they're away at the World Cup there's a flat rate, so will be more if Scotland make it through group stages. With Shankland joining, will give us (I think) 6 players there.

24 May 2026 14:01:02
Scotland have never made it beyond the group stages.

24 May 2026 14:02:03
Cheers mate I didn't know that.

24 May 2026 14:21:44
Rohl with cheese, I know that. But this will be their best chance now with the number of teams in the comp. Top 2 from each group qualify, with 8 3rd place teams also qualifying. A good win over Haiti may be enough to get through.

24 May 2026 14:35:04
I would imagine, if Shankland was to sign before World Cup, Hearts would be looking for compo as money lost for his appearance.

24 May 2026 15:15:02
Would think so, Teddy.

24 May 2026 16:24:36
If he's registered as our player before the World Cup, then the compensation will be due to us - why would Hearts get anything from it?

24 May 2026 16:59:47
Why would Hearts look for compensation? He's not their player.

24 May 2026 17:05:06
It will likely be split, as can't be registered before WC starts.

24 May 2026 17:12:39
My thought was Shanklin was selected to play for Scotland as a Hearts player, so they may feel that, on top of losing a player, they stand to lose out on any appearance they would have gotten.
And, would he have been picked for Scotland if he was not a regular starter for Rangers? Also, will the pitch invasion get forgotten about, because clearly you can see Shanklin striking out at a fan, possibly goaded, but still lashing out.

Will SFA investigate?

24 May 2026 13:28:50
Fabrizio Romano now saying all paperwork signed and sealed on the deal that takes lawrence shankland from Hearts to Rangers and all that's left is the official announcement ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Welcome to the Rangers lawrence ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

24 May 2026 13:59:52
Nice 1 Coops.

24 May 2026 14:36:26
Get in. Delighted with this. I do believe Shankland could also play the Scotty Arfield role in a few years. Arrive from midfield at just the right time. Welcome home Shanks. ๐Ÿซกโค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

24 May 2026 15:05:52
Am I the only one, not sure about this?
Hope I'm wrong, but about 2 years too late imo.

24 May 2026 16:08:54
Free transfer (according to the rumours), Scottish, Rangers fan, done well in this league, finished above us last season. Always a risk, but seems very low risk to me.

24 May 2026 16:23:58
I hope it works out and isn't too late. Don't want the feeling of Hearts getting the fruit and we get the peel.

24 May 2026 16:36:17
Bar, you're definitely not the only one, mate. He has many doubters on here. Think of the positives though.
Scores against Celtic very regularly.
Top scorer in SPL regularly.
Shows up in big games.
Scottish.

Knows the league.
Rangers fan.

Now, I get some of those aren't a must in signings, but it definitely helps imo. We have the chance to sign him with all his positive attributes, or do we go for some unknown?

24 May 2026 17:01:23
Sir Walter, where are you seeing this? I looked at Romano about an hour ago and there was nothing about Shankland.

24 May 2026 17:09:17
I've just never got it with Shankland.
And have never been fussed if he signed or not.
But if he does and fires us to the title, I'll sing his name from the rooftops.

24 May 2026 17:29:33
Actually feel Lawrence is improving his game.
He has so much more in his armoury than just finding the poke.
Where he fits into the striking dept will largely depend on available personnel, but I've wanted him at our place for a while now.
Absolutely delighted at the prospect of signing this player.

24 May 2026 17:31:47
That's the spirit, mph.

24 May 2026 17:35:04
Seen it now on Romano.

24 May 2026 12:36:21
Will our ladies have what it takes to get it over the line. Praying results elsewhere go in our favour

24 May 2026 13:54:52
Looks like pressures gotten to both teams.

24 May 2026 13:56:05
Not looking hopeful right now!

They're losing 3-0 and Hibs are beating Hearts. ๐Ÿ˜ข

24 May 2026 13:56:39
Results elsewhere are going Rangers' way, except where it counts on the park, down 3-0 at half time. ๐Ÿซฃ

24 May 2026 14:06:12
Struggling big time, a couple of players having a mare today. Look like we are going to lose a goal at every corner. Creating nothing up front.

24 May 2026 14:15:18
Certainly seems that way, Ehl.

Although, Hearts will still have a title at the end of it.

Let's hope for a goal blitz second half. ๐Ÿ˜œ

24 May 2026 14:19:48
Cooper, I saw we were three down and my only surprise was that only 2 came from corners.

Once again, really didn't fancy our starting 11.

24 May 2026 14:43:43
Was a strange starting 11, now completely fallen apart. City picking us off when they please. Really poor.

24 May 2026 15:07:00
Do they use the same corner defensive coach as the men? ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰

24 May 2026 16:02:18
Should the manager be sacked for that? That's a shocking result in such a decisive game.

24 May 2026 16:30:07
Why would you sack a manager based on one result?

She's taken a young and inexperienced side to second and two cup finals.

City are still comfortably the best side in the league, but can no longer afford to keep the same depth of squad as they used to.

Injuries, Europe and international duty crippled their season, but on their day they are still the best side in the country.

24 May 2026 16:39:16
Well done to the jammies.

24 May 2026 12:04:41
If shankland signs. Should he be captain?

24 May 2026 12:24:27
Yes. He is a ready-made captain. You see how influential he is in that Hearts team, and the fact he understands Rangers would mean he would hit the ground running.

24 May 2026 12:30:00
Rg, the answer to that is we just don't know mate. ๐Ÿค” I actually prefer a midfielder or a defender being our captain, but if Shankland does become our new captain, I would be happy with that.

๐Ÿ˜ It's a very privileged role to be the captain of Glasgow Rangers, so it will be interesting who takes the baton from Tav as our new captain. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง It's an absolute privilege/honour whoever is chosen. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

24 May 2026 12:58:51
It has been suggested for a while that next season captain would be a new signing. Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that will be Shankland.

24 May 2026 13:03:09
He will be part of the new leadership group and I suspect he'll be vice captain.

24 May 2026 13:18:15
Anyone think that if we had signed him last summer, we would have won the treble? Fewer dropped points v Hearts, two wins over the rotten mob in the cups. We sure would have been in a better position. I think some of the Purdie, Thelwell, Stewart transactions will turn out well for us, but bringing Martin in was a monumental disaster.

24 May 2026 13:30:34
So Ehl, do you think another one of our new signings will be our new captain with Shankland as our new vice captain. ๐Ÿค”

24 May 2026 13:36:54
SWS, Yes, have been pretty consistent one since January.

24 May 2026 13:52:36
Niel?

24 May 2026 14:03:01
Shanks may not start all games, so I'd say club vice captain is best position for him.

I'd really love Lewis to be captain.

24 May 2026 14:15:18
Shankland is coming to Rangers to play in our starting 11, Stevie G, not on the subs bench, mate. ๐Ÿค” He's not going to give up playing every week at Hearts, as their captain, to sit on our bench for a good few of our games, and especially as he's now almost 31 years old. ๐Ÿค”

24 May 2026 14:32:06
Sws, Shankland will not be guaranteed a start, mate, he'd be happy to come from the bench for us club.

24 May 2026 14:37:48
Lewis Ferguson captain, Shanks vice captain? Ehl. ๐Ÿ‘€

24 May 2026 14:43:01
Coops, yes he would.

He'd happily make the tea if he could be part of Rangers Football Club.

You're just doing that thing you always do at transfee windows, and going too far with signings.

Shanks is a very good player and will play more games than he won't.

However, he's probably 2nd choice as of now. Up to him from here, same as everyone else.

He'd make a fine club captain, btw. I'm not against it, I just see him maybe as vice captain.

24 May 2026 15:13:17
Shanks will 100% not be our captain. Nor will he be a guaranteed starter every week.

24 May 2026 15:18:30
If not captain, then certainly vice captain. I doubt he's coming to sit on the bench. He seems to have wanted this for years & perhaps arranged a clause specifically for a move like this.

As for being 2nd, I wudnt be so sure of that, & a lot will depend on what formation Dr goes with. If we're playing 2 up top, then I'm suggesting he starts most games alongside Chermiti unless Chermiti goes.

24 May 2026 15:37:24
Absolutely he should be Captain. Who else is going to be Captain? I agree also, he will start most games for us. Why would he not? Are we that flaming good we can afford to leave him on the bench? I think not. Let's just hope we see more dig next season, as we were far too weak and defeatist all season.

24 May 2026 15:49:15
Captain will be decoded at the end of the window. What happens if we give it to him and then sign a better option?

No. It will be decided down the line.

24 May 2026 16:25:44
Need to wait and see, but he has all the qualities to be our captain and for me 100% starter.

24 May 2026 11:54:39
We should push the boat out and ask the question of Ferguson, could he be captain for next 10 years, yes he could? Or thereabouts,

I'm pretty certain he's already been asked, given his family history, he was almost born into the role, if he wants it and if he's up to the job, , otherwise we need to search for the right person, Rangers captain has always been a highly prized position and imo, has been massively devalued and downsized over the past few years, in short, we haven't really had one, ,

When we consider people of the ilk and standings of
Mr Greig, DJ, Sandy, The underrated and fantastic man that was Ally Dawson, Terry Butcher, Richard Gough, Ally McCoist, Amo, Barry, David Weir, and many before them, it really hits home that we have downsized dramatically in recent times,

This has not been a real Rangers since Walter somehow got us titles again and a European final

Nobody will convince me that Tavernier is a Rangers captain, nor have we had one since Walter left,

This, to me is the gist of our problems, we must find that leader of men, nit a " group "

Groups cause division and trouble, they bring little else, we don't want nor need a " group "

I feel that was what DR was telling Ac, get me leaders, but we need one, with warriors that will follow that leader to the coal face and beyond
JG had men like Sandy, And my old friend Bonber Jackson among many, who would spill blood beside him, as did Big Tel and Richard and Barry after them, can we honestly say James Tavernier and his " group " were ever even remotely close to that? , Where they even really Rangers men?
This is why a Real Rangers Mindset is an absolute must in our club again, we lost our identity when Walter went, we must find it again soon or we watch titles disappear

24 May 2026 12:13:51
Bang on, Tom.
Agree wholeheartedly with your post 100%.
Think we will see a massive difference this coming season when the captain is announced.

24 May 2026 12:19:07
Well said, TT. Total agreement from me.

24 May 2026 12:19:08
"Can we honestly say James Tavernier and his " group " were ever even remotely close to that? Were they even really Rangers men?"

No. And. No.

24 May 2026 12:31:42
TT12, hope you're doing well pal. ๐Ÿ™ What's your thoughts on our new signing Lawrence Shankland being our new captain mate? ๐Ÿค”

24 May 2026 12:59:46
SWS, as it stands, out of everyone in our current squad, only Shankland stands out as captain for me. There isn't another player I would be comfortable with taking the arm band at the moment.

So he has to be made captain for me. It's Danny's decision though, however, I think it would absolutely kill any hope for him if he were to make Butland or Souttar permanent captain.

24 May 2026 13:01:14
Lewis is a must sign player for me, and we must do it this summer.

Make it happen. Finance it by selling someone who we may not want to sell. Doesn't matter, he's a must sign now.

24 May 2026 13:43:26
The first Rangers captain I remember seeing was Bobby Shearer. He would have run through a brick wall for the club. Seen many more captains since him. The majority display true leadership qualities, integrity, unquestionable loyalty, love and passion for Rangers Football Club.

Shankland on a free and sell Miovski for a fee (probably less than we paid last season), would be a good start to our transfer business.

24 May 2026 12:32:25
Miovski going to Hearts perhaps. ๐Ÿค”

24 May 2026 13:02:54
Sir Walter, stranger things have happened, Miovski's girlfriend wanted to come back to Scotland, maybe that's changed.
