I'm probably going to get slaughtered for this but here goes:

I don't think the players are as bad as they're being made out to be.

If you look at the Semi against them that we one on penalties, we went toe to toe with them the whole way with a worse squad than we've got now. 6 Celtic players that played today also played in that game - the spine of their team is similar but the manager has improved that exponentially.

It's not unfathomable to assume that a different manager could challenge them using our current squad (with a few signings; CBs specifically) .

Morellos is only 21- with the right arm around his shoulder he's going to be a phenomenal striker.

Dorrans can be magic when he's played in the right position.

Tav and Candeias are absolutely devastating, when they want to be, down that right hand side.

Murhpy has flashes of brilliance.

Windass has scored nearly 20 goals this season yet disappears for 80 minutes at a time.

Our starting 11 with no new signings or injuries could be:

Alnwick
Tav McRorie Alves John
Jack
Candeias Dorrans Murphy
Windass
Morellos

On paper, that's a strong team but they're completely lost on the pitch both individually and as a unit.

Today's game was already lost before it even kicked off because there's no fight and we're terrified of playing against them, when Hearts, Hibs and Killie have all picked up points against them this season and we just rolled over.

My point is that our squad is not as far behind as the last few Old Firm games would suggest but they need someone to come in and inspire them.

Look at what Rodgers has done with the individuals in their squad without really adding too many new faces.

The right manager, a decent CB and a solid midfielder could see us not being absolutely flattened every time we play them.

Finally, the 'gap' is far clearer on the pitch than it is on the table. Had we not lost the games against the 'wee' teams we'd very much be challenging for the title.

We don't have to go out a smash them every time to win the league - we just need to smash everyone else.

We've got the 2nd strongest squad by a mile and one of the worst managers in the league (no disrespect) . Even a HALF decent manager could cruise into 2nd with that squad.

If it's Gerrard, all he needs to do is pick the right the team and coach the players until they get over that innate fear of them and the rest will do itself.

Good post, well thought out with a lot of sensible points. It will never catch on here. Seriously I tend to agree. Take the game at Ibrox as a case in point. They were definitely rattled by our first half performance and with a better manager would have won, I have no doubts about this. The players need focus and direction and their arses soundly booted. Murty has lost the dressing room and shoukd be removed now to let Jimmy Nicholl take charge for the last 3 games. I reckon we can still finish second, but not with Murty in charge. Do the right thing and take him out of the firing line, Mr King.

I agree mate I said on another post we have to go for quality over numbers. 2 big strong centre backs a creative midfielder and a 25-30 goal a season striker. Get rid of some of the deadwood and bring through some youngsters into the squad

Tavernier can’t defend, Alves not interested, Candeias is over rated by many and is another who is awful against them. The team is that bad and the 2 drubbings don’t lie. If you play the team you mention next season the same thing will happen. I don’t know how obvious it needs to be before some people wake up. Actually I despair how blinkered some people are.

It's tough to watch your team totally outplayed and outfought.

I think we have players who can still contribute next season, after all it was only about a month ago we were on a decent run, playing some nice football and going toe to toe with celtic.

Something has fundamentally changed since that first half.

For me, I would keep :

Jak
Tav Alves John
Jack rossiter dorrans mcrorie docherty candias Murphy morelos

Some of these should be squad men.

It all depends on cash to spend tho.

The whole team fell apart and hid, no leaders on the park because no one had the b*lls, it's a sad day when you are hoping that you will only get beat 5-0 by your biggest rivals, that's the sad but true state of affairs
