Not Todd but Tod, Andy Tod Junior, son of Andy Tod, who played for DAFC through the 90s. Both very good players but the one playing now has the chance to really make it. Have to agree with a comment above though, he won't improve our first XI, but could make it onto the bench. Can't see Lennon being easy to deal with either!

Lennon won't be (directly) involved, Aph, but they talk to and can make an impression on player(s). Obvs, with Lennon's past, it's easy to make the assumption that a transfer to Rangers may be difficult.

The fact that we are looking to increase our involvement and reputation in Scandinavian markets speaks volumes about a coordinated approach to identifying and recruiting young talent.
We have usually done well with players from this region, glad to see we are making serious approaches.
I'm not suggesting we ignore other regions, but a strong presence in Scandinavia will serve us well.

Aph, I don't often post about player rumours, but I have an old friend in Oslo who has told me Rangers have been alerted to a young striker called Mame Alassane Niang, who I believe is on the books of Lyn Oslo but is currently on loan to another club. Do you have any info you could share on this lad? Thank you.

He has started the season very well with Hamarkameratene in the Eliteserien.

They do have an option to buy in the deal.

I believe they will exercise that option but we could certainly make a move in January.

It's all very well saying that youngsters never get a chance, but when they do, and he did, they have to show they deserve to stay, which he didn't. No doubt he has ability but never showed the work rate and the other side of the game.

Clement and Ferguson both wanted to give him a go but he just never did enough. Hopefully he will get his career going elsewhere but he can't say he didn't get a chance. Lowry actually showed more and he was another one who didn't put the effort in.

Rice is too good for the U19s, so his development has stagnated a little and he's not good enough for our first team yet - so he's stuck in limbo.

The development squad at Ajax or Schalke will give him an opportunity to kick on.

We are in talks with Schalke over a development partnership. Rohl was very keen for Curtis to go there in January.

We should not be letting Bailey Rice leave on a free. He is just 19 and has so much more to come. He is our second youngest post-war player after Derek Ferguson, capped at every level for Scotland - including the under 21s when he was just 17 - and is still physically developing.

Schalke and Ajax want the boy for a reason. They see his potential and we seem to be blind to it.

Thornton, I think we need to offer him a decent 3 year deal and tell him we'll put him out on loan for a year, and cery maybe a 2nd year. I think abroad would be good for him whether loan or perm.

To say he has wasted his time at Rangers is just totally wrong, he was given a chance to show what he could do and never lived up to the hype. I'm sure we all hoped he would be better, but he just never showed enough to be offered a contract. I wish him all the best for his next move.

Strange to see the same people wanting rid of another player for not performing well when given a chance but wringing their hands about this player moving on when he never performed well when given a chance!

When was Rice given an opportunity at Rangers? He was at the club for over a year before he got his first start. It was against Queens Park in a cup game under Clement. We lost the game, and the support wrote the young lad off. One game.

I think he's played LB once under Danny Rohl.

Can someone tell me when he got a prolonged run in central midfield? Rice has absolutely wasted his time here and Lennon Miller must be delighted he stayed at Motherwell, continued to develop, and is now an international.

Rice has done nothing for years and needs to get as far away from Rangers as possible.

The truth is, that boy was the best central midfielder at his age when we signed him. We failed to play or develop him.

His career has stagnated at Rangers and he needs to leave so he can start regular football. Another example of a youth player being completely mishandled by Rangers - and there are many examples indeed.

We tried to buy Rice and Miller at the time; Rice said yes, Miller said no, and yes, Rice was touted to be better at the time, but that means absolutely nothing, especially now.
Rohl, you seem to blame Rangers.

Instead, it's maybe a bit of both, the player and Rangers. Obviously, none of our managers have thought he was good enough to get much game time, unless you think you know better than managers.

You see, young players aren't the finished article. They must be developed in order to fulfil their potential. That is exactly what Motherwell did with Lennon Miller. Plenty of game time, the improvement comes, then he's worth millions.

Lennon Miller was not worth millions at age 16, nor was he good enough to play for Rangers.

Had Rangers signed Lennon Miller, there's no doubt in my mind we would have completely derailed his career too.

Can you tell me what Rangers have done since 2022 in order to develop Bailey Rice? Has not playing football for 4 years helped him improve?

Rangers have mishandled the youth academy, and young players in general, for decades. This isn't exactly a secret. The club is a complete mess in that aspect.
