If we're Interested and we get him could throw a problem up

The Ibrox side has been interested for several months but the Scotland under-21 cap had been weighing up his options with offers in England and strong interest in Italy. Barron is set to go out of contract this month and if he was to move outside of Scotland then Aberdeen would be entitled to just over £500,000 in training compensation. That figure does not hold in Scotland and unless the two clubs could agree compensation then any fee would be decided by an independent tribunal. That is unlikely to value Barron, who came right through the Dons Academy, at less than the training compensation.

The chances are that Rangers could be asked to pay significantly more as Dundee United previously found out to their cost when they signed Charlie Telfer from the Light Blues a few years back. It puts Aberdeen in a strong position and they can hold out for an enhanced fee and other potential add-ons and sell-on that wouldn't be on offer if Barron was to leave Scotland.

I wouldn’t worry. They want Robbie McRory anyway so wouldn’t be surprised if it was a swap.

13 Jun 2024 07:32:50
So? Once ooc, can we sign him with no compensation?

13 Jun 2024 07:40:23
What a load of ? sell fee on a free agent plus add ons ? you can only get made to pay training compensation won’t be more than 500k.

13 Jun 2024 08:05:58
No bar 72 but they ain’t getting more than 500k if true why would we sell them Ross mc wo would just wait till he is out of contract make Aberdeen pay well over 500k add ons and sell on clause ? who ever wrote that article knows **** all about football.

13 Jun 2024 08:37:36
John was saying there would be a development fee, unfortunately. Could be around 500k?

13 Jun 2024 08:54:48
Surely if he is out of contract then there's nothing Dons can do or ask for?

13 Jun 2024 09:00:22
Bar no we’d need to pay compensation.

13 Jun 2024 11:01:25
Unless the rules have changed recently we would need to pay a development fee for Barron, not required to pay addons or sell on, this would be applicable provided Barron was offered a new contract at Aberdeen.

13 Jun 2024 12:45:49
It does seem a strange one that we would oay a development fee for Barron as they developed him until 21 but there wouldn't be a development fee for McCrorie that we have developed until 26.

{Ed001's Note - it is because he is older. Once they hit 24, that development fee stops because then you have had all those years of them playing for you to get your money back for coaching them. There is still a 5% cut of every transfer fee that will be split between the teams that a player spent time in the academy with. So if a player goes all the way through your academy, every time he makes a transfer for a fee after that, Rangers would get 5% of it. That is standard in transfers now.}

Cheers for that info Ed001,i never knew that mate.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

I meant about the 5% after transfers.

{Ed001's Note - yeah 5% goes to the player, unless he hands in a written transfer request. 5% is split between the clubs that the player went through the academy of (even if a player is 38 that still applies). The remaining 90% is the selling clubs, unless there are any sell on clauses from previous transfers.}

{Ed001's Note - very welcome huey.}
