Jimmy nichol, assistant manager, sixty one years old, sacked from Cowdenbeath last year! Yes lads that's the way forward, another cheap option, but a real rangers man! That makes it a good choice then for some! Get a reality check, he's past it and won't bring a thing to the party! Incidentally who's running the reserves now?
02 Jan 2018 22:29:30
Good point about the young team surley we need someone in there to run this
02 Jan 2018 22:40:49
Another Billy blue we've hire a pensioner will he be taking training way a zimmer lol š
02 Jan 2018 23:35:44
Jimmy Nichol done great job with NORTHERN IRELAND š¬š§ the whole squad have good word on him onwards and upwards.
03 Jan 2018 00:28:23
Billy blue, Jimmy nicol has played in two world cups played for rangers and man United won the league cup against Celtic assistant manager to Michael O'Neill for northern Ireland in the euros what have you done apart from slagging off the team your supposed to support.
03 Jan 2018 01:34:30
G man. so because Jimmy Nicol played in 2 world cups every supporter should be happy heās our new number 2!? Really!? . I agree with Billy Blue, another cheap option.!
03 Jan 2018 10:47:44
What Murty needed more than anything as a no2 was experience. Jimmy ticks every box and has previous management experience and is a well respected no2 with Northern Ireland. He knows the demands and expectations of the club and is a rangers man. I really hope Murty is a success though I have my doubts and if he isnāt then OāNeil assistant will have had half a season to assess squad etc. This surely makes OāNeil massive favourite if Murty gamble doesnāt pay off.
03 Jan 2018 11:01:04
Billy Blue, Lee_McF and more importantly DSGERSFAN.
DO YOU GUYS SUPPORT THE CLUB, OR HAVE ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO ADD!
Negativity after negativity, put the club down at every chance.
Give the guy a chance, what type of fan writes someone off before they have even done anything. Then brags to others, if it doesn't work out saying. I told you so.
Like others, you can air your concerns but don't put the boot in like everyone else does, that is if you even are a supporter, or are you just a fan.
03 Jan 2018 11:20:57
Gordon83. I didnāt realise on this site you couldnāt criticise the club at all.? Surely itās all about having your say which is exactly what Iām doing.! Iām not happy with a number of things so Iām going to say it, itās all about opinions and just because mines differs from yours donāt mean Iām wrong.!
For the record (to answer your question) Iām a season ticket holder who sits GF4 and Iām on the CCS and go to Away games also so Iāve every right to vent just like everyone else.!
03 Jan 2018 11:53:02
Lee_McF like I clearly said. "YOU CAN AIR YOUR CONCERNS" But try be "CONSTRUCTIVE" in your criticism instead of being like Sutton and put the boot in. Most of my post is aimed at DSGERSFAN but if you feel so defensive that's your problem.
03 Jan 2018 12:06:11
And I clearly said I can vent just because it differs from yours doesnāt mean Iām wrong. If I want to criticise the club and Iāve every right to do so just as much as someone who wants to praise them. Again itās all about opinions youāve got yours and Iāve mine.
Not defensive at all, just answering your silly question regarding being a āfanā or āsupporterā not that it should make difference. As everyone is entitled to their say.!
Have a nice day Gordon.
03 Jan 2018 12:41:55
One of the reasons people on here moan is the way the club is/ has been run and the seemingly random appointments. Nichol might well be a decent enough coach but he's not the most exciting appointment is he? I think we have the basis of a decent team but we've got got a good few duffers in the squad. 3 years after King taking control, we should be in a much better position on and off the park.
03 Jan 2018 13:37:42
Lee_McF, I've not given my opinion so how can you say it differs from yours. Am I happy with everything that has happened at my club. No i'm not, but i'm not going to sit here and chastise the board for making an effort. I will however vent and give an opinion with a constructive solution instead of be a little moaning cry baby. i'm not excited by Jimmy Nichol, but he deserves a fair chance. As does anyone we bring in. maybe the difference between us, is I have patience and won't go throwing my toys out the pram because things ain't going our way. With regards to my "silly question" it was rhetorical. The fact you responded is defensive. sorry
03 Jan 2018 13:44:55
Guys think u need to chill. this is a no2 appointment and heās coming in to assist a manager with very limited experience. He has bags of experience
03 Jan 2018 16:52:25
Gordon83 your opinion seems to be you canāt make any criticism regarding the team/ club!? Well that differs from mine.! You think the board are making an effort!? Letās think back a few weeks when they waited to go after a target, failed so appoint the U20s manager.! šš»šš» Your obviously easily pleased which is upto you but I for one would like better from the club and if that means that Iām a ālittle moaning cry babyā as you put it then Iām guilty as charged.
Out of curiosity though Gordon, where about do you sit at Ibrox!?
03 Jan 2018 17:34:07
Not an exciting appointment but I think it's a smart one purely for his experience
04 Jan 2018 08:43:20
Again you are wrong Lee_McF
When have I said you can't criticize the club?
I clearly said Air your concerns, which is the same as vent or critique etc.
Just do it in a better matter with some constructive emphasis in their instead of just moaning for the sake of it.
For me the board have done a good job since they take over and its clearly a marathon not a sprint to get us to where we belong. Which I can accept, obviously you cant.
I sit in BR2 with my kids but most of the time i'm upgraded to hospitality through my contacts since you asked.
02 Jan 2018 17:47:11
According to sky the deal for Murphy is not as close as some have rumoured. big difference in Ā£Ā£'s! Hope not but I can see this dragging on like the Dorrans affair. I know it's very early days in the window but with every British target we go for it turns into a bit of a circus.
This window we could do with but not including returning loans, Winger and striker, solid centre mid and solid centre half.
02 Jan 2018 18:16:50
Sky has been outed on twitter as really not knowing anything, sources close to the player and guys that are usually much more accurate are saying 800k or thereabouts and the deals done, some of twitter is p1sh but some are usually well in the know if you look for it
03 Jan 2018 00:54:32
Well if I had Jamie Murphy I would want at least 3-4 milllion if I was also in charge of Windass I would be looking for 3 mill plus add ons. Windass has plenty of potential at a good age, if this does happen could end up being another bad bit of business for us
02 Jan 2018 17:36:22
all our so called fan's have to come on and apologise for saying alves feigned injury in the old firm game. it looks as though he will spend some time out of action now. shame on the lot of you. bruno is a professional and would never feign injury.
02 Jan 2018 19:20:59
Here here jamesreilly09!Some of our supporters just don't think before spouting or in this case accusing a thorough professional of feigning injury!
02 Jan 2018 20:29:37
Aye it was pretty clear from the look on his face that it was a pretty serious injury. Hope the big man recovers quickly and starts producing the form we all know he is capable of. The Rangers injury jinx strikes again. Nightmare!
03 Jan 2018 00:55:59
I wasnt one of them James. i said at the time it was ridiculous to accuse him of feigning injury
02 Jan 2018 15:04:44
Not getting carried away and I've been critical but if you analyse the game on Saturday we actually have the making of a team. Not all 11 showed up but most did and they look like good players. The danger is the raising the game mentality which we've endured in most of our opponents since we became fans and we can't become that. The press say Celtic looked jaded and played poorly and had a day off but I doubt that. I think we matched them on the level they're at. Murty might well be a manager with a bright future.
02 Jan 2018 15:39:32
Murty might well be a manager with a bright future!? Letās remember 7 days previous when Killie absolutely PUMPED US. Football fans are so fickle.! Yeah great we took a point off Celtic and should have taken 3 but letās not kid on here. Aberdeen x2 and Celtic games apart we have been absolutely rotten under Murty.
02 Jan 2018 16:22:15
Typical modern day football supporter attitide. Blame the manager not the players and if the manager and players don't win every game they are failures. Not one player was signed by murty but he has got more out of them than pedro and warbs. He will be the main man going forward and i fully support him and the team. Also sounds like we will be getting reinforcements in january.
02 Jan 2018 16:32:09
Thatās not entirely true, heās lost more games this season than Pedro has this season alone and has the same win percentage as Pedro did after the same amount of games.! So letās not talk rubbish here.! Iām what you can a realist, I donāt get carried away with one good performance every 3/ 4 games.! I tend to look at the bigger picture and Murty is and will not be the āmain manā as you put it.!
02 Jan 2018 16:33:35
Add to that, RfcChris. the word āfailuresā never came out my mouth, that was your word my friend.
02 Jan 2018 17:18:32
Who do/ did you want as manager Lee McF?
02 Jan 2018 18:07:23
Lee_McF, read carefully RfcChris's post! The key sentence was "NOT ONE PLAYER WAS SIGNED BY MURTY"! Give the manager a chance! Wait until he brings some of his own signings in this month and integrated with some of the good players, we already have at the club! Its the consistency of some of our players in the so called smaller games, that's the problem here! They have to realise and have the mentality to raise their own performances in these like i said, against so called smaller clubs! Don't just jump down murty's throat, when the blame lies in their own heads! I for one, think that our new management team of graeme murty (manager), jimmy nicholl (assistant manager) and jonathan johansson (first team coach), will prove to be a good combination and they will do well! Get behind them and let's see what happens!
02 Jan 2018 19:25:47
After Pedro got the heave-ho, nobody (you included supercoop) mentioned murty, Nichol, Johansson as our management team. I HOPE they do well but his record isn't that great. His/ they're appointment didn't exactly excite anyone, especially after all the nonsense before he was eventually announced.
02 Jan 2018 19:34:09
Supercoopereleven. I got stuck on āgot more out of themā (false) and āhe will be the main man going forwardā (false) . So can only apologise.! The problem for me is Murty doesnāt have the fear factor as the manager, he still seems too pally with the players, now I donāt mean he isnāt respected as all the players seem to really like him but on 2 occasions after the Celtic game both Bates and Tav on Rangers TV called him āMurtsā then corrected themselves. Do you think they would have called Smith, Advocaat, McLeish etc by theyāre nicknames? Absolutely not.
I truly hope Iām proved wrong with Murty but thus far with him at the helm we arenāt any better than we have been under the last two managers, a performance here and there isnāt good enough thatās a fact.!
At the end of the day, itās always the manager who carries the can when performances arenāt good enough and this is no different. Just because Murty is a nice guy doesnāt mean he canāt be criticised if or when his team which he chooses to play the game has a shocker, which seems to be every other week apart from the said 3 matches (Aberdeen x2 and Celtic) .
Wee_Bear. as for who Iād like, honestly thereās nobody who stands out as an ideal candidate just now but I would rather have had someone who at the very least has experience of being a manager.
02 Jan 2018 21:42:20
I had the same feeling Lee as regards there being no clear outstanding candidate and knew I didnāt want McInnes. I always thought Murty should stay on unless this person became available/ interested. The results have been ok for me, the 4 defeats make hard reading but we have also had some good victories and I will definitely give Murty until the end of the season before judging him as a Manager. Player recruitment is key and hopefully we can a few deals done this window. It goes without saying that the defeats to the āweeā teams canāt carry on but letās get behind him until the end of the season and see where we are?
02 Jan 2018 22:12:15
Agreed Wee_Bear. šš»
03 Jan 2018 00:52:33
@kfraser - totally agree. Murty has now got the better of Brenda twice tactically. Nothing to do with them being jaded - they have the biggest squad in Scotland.
And the fire sale has now begun at the piggery to pay for the hotel project. A bit of consistency at Ibrox and we won't be far away.
03 Jan 2018 00:53:25
Lee if you tend to look at the larger picture then surely you would allow Murty the chance to prove himself rather than rite him off already.
02 Jan 2018 13:18:07
I think for Ā£1M (if true) Jamie Murphy would be a good acquisition. He could play upfront with Morelos in the 4-4-2 diamond or on the left in a 4-5-1 where we donāt get the best out of Windass. While his age means there will be no resale value of any note we definitely need experienced players in too To help develop the likes of McCrorie, Windass and Morelos. I feel that we need a central midfielder in to partner Jack with Holt as the backup man for now. Most probably a loan for this one and the young Arsenal player could fit the bill. Consistency is my main target for the rest of the season so that if Celtic continue wobble then we can be in the mix.
02 Jan 2018 08:21:57
Don't worry fellow bears all is well Andy Hollywood returns, we can all sleep safe . Ha ha ha.
02 Jan 2018 11:44:35
I don't mind him back in fact i'm glad he's back we need to beef up the squad with next to no cash so it's a no brainer bringing him back, he'll do a job off thw bench or if he wants to fight for his place with the club he supports then he'll get the head down, i'm honestly quite happy he's back add a coyple of new faces along with the youngsters we could have a strong ish team
02 Jan 2018 12:32:15
At least Halliday is a fighter and a tough competitor. Could be just the competition needed in midfield
02 Jan 2018 14:43:53
Halliday is not a fighter or tough competitor if he is i have been watching the wrong player when he played for rangers
02 Jan 2018 16:13:52
Voted one of the worst signings in Azerbaijan
02 Jan 2018 21:38:48
Halliday is very poor and not the answer going forward. Itās a sad day when we have to go cap in hand to get him back. Would be better off give Barjonas his chance rRher than bring back a guy who is clearly out of his depth in the Scottish Premiership
02 Jan 2018 21:49:28
really Halliday, r u guys for real, we will soon be back to the breadmans team and loik where they got us
02 Jan 2018 22:10:16
Halliday was ok in the championship for us and he done his job in getting us promotion,
but no danger is he a tough competitor in the premiership he will be a bench warmer at best for the rest of the season, he is simply not good enough
02 Jan 2018 07:00:23
Just wanted to say I would be gutted if Tav went. 3 mil wouldn't be enough for me cause who could we get to replace him? I know he's been caught out in the past but with Murty as manager he seems to be learning fast.
He really took the game by the scruff of the neck on Saturday and he was demanding higher standards and more effort from everyone . whilst leading by example!
He's been through it with us now, he's competitive and, just by going off what I've seen in his interviews, I could imagine he is great banter and a big character in the changing room.
I honestly feel he's a big player for us going forward and 3 million is nowhere near enough. Turning down that sum in order to keep him would be a sign of ambition in my opinion. If he takes his second half performance into the second half of the season, just the way he was so demanding, I can see him as a future captain. Just my opinion, shoot me down . come on!
02 Jan 2018 09:07:53
No mate, I totally agree with you. As some people on here have eluded to, he's the modern fullback and will get caught out because he's up the pitch so much. He's one of the few players we have that can drive us forward, and he can put in a cracking cross.
For me it's a no brainer, he must stay. 3m doesn't buy you much in today's market, if we had to replace him.
02 Jan 2018 09:50:28
If Ā£3m was offered am sure we'd sell. I like Tavernier but am sure you could get a good, young right back easy enough. Just off the top of my head the boy Naismith up at Ross county.
02 Jan 2018 10:47:34
Guys, don't you think we are now seeing the real Tav which is why we brought him in. This will also happen with Windass as you have seen he has the potential just needs to be more consistent. Bates was the same, laughed at when he came from RR now a more confident palyer and showing potential. We should be holding on to these young players then selling on when the pruce is right or even building round them.
02 Jan 2018 14:44:21
Good post. He's a modern day wingback and a better one than Moses and I follow Chelsea as my second team. Tavernier has progressed a lot and gets what it is to play for Rangers and endure the pressures. He'd walk into a lot of premier league teams and that sets its own value. Well done to the guy.
02 Jan 2018 15:01:37
He had a great game against Celtic are we forgetting all the dodgy defending from him (and others) in our defeats this season? Again I actually like him but if someone offers Ā£3m, he'll be sold. If anyone offered Ā£3m for any of our players, they'd most likely be sold.
02 Jan 2018 15:44:15
Spot on Blueberry. a lot of people with short memories. If we got offered 3m (which we wonāt) Iād bite their hand off for it.
āheād walk into a lot of premier league teamsā Iām intrigued to know which ones Kfraser? Because heās a rotten defender which most premier league clubs wouldnāt put up with.!
02 Jan 2018 21:40:57
Tavernier was superb in the second half and took Tierney to the cleaners however he himself was given a hard time the previous week at Kilmarnock. Think we should be looking for a better defensive right back and push him to right midfield
