The blame for last nights performance lies at the feet of Russell Martin and the fools that appointed him.
Last night was a team broken, void of confidence, full of bad habits and mistakes. This was a culmination of the 120 odd day reign of Martin and we are now in the hangover/ recovery stage.
Danny Rohl has come across incredibly well so far, he inherited a mess at Sheffield Wednesday and had them over performing. I am confident he can do the same here. I do think there are some in this squad who could flourish.
I wouldn't be against getting as as many scottish players on the pitch as possible and fill the rest around them. Souttar, Barron, Cameron, Curtis and work from there.

24 Oct 2025 13:58:06
Souttar is not Rangers class but we don't have any other options. I would agree with getting more of the young lads in because at a bare minimum Barron and Cameron will try. Curtis is our only natural finisher as well.
24 Oct 2025 14:46:22
Hearing what's happened to Sheff Wed. today, it sounds worse than our situation (if that was possible! )
At least Mr Rohl, is used to working in a crisis?

Good post stig, hard to disagree.
24 Oct 2025 13:26:36
Well done my friend good article! You have touched on a few things well there,
I'd like to add if I may that regarding transfer strategy i think it was Josh Barry from the Rangers review that explains very well the difference between us and Celtic over the last few years although you could argue that they have had issues recently with still managing to do well domestically.
Lastly there is issues with Tav which I have touched on here a few times, I believe he was told to find a club close season and more than likely retained his place because his replacement is let's be honest not good enough.
Also morale issues caused by this within the group of the manner of it all.
He isn't blameless in all this but certainly not the only one.
24 Oct 2025 13:31:23
I actually think we were on the right track with our recruitment under Koppen. We were identifying young players who were performing well at their level. We brought in 17 M or so in the summer from these type of players.
The use of English market by Thewell was ignorant and incompetent. It's the most expensive market in the world and a tried and failed strategy we have done before. Add to this the number of loan players and we are not even building for the future. With such pathetic recruitment the decision to bring his son in that capacity is mind blowingly arrogant.
His position is untenable and he needs to go immediately. He is responsible for our on field display, much more than even Martin for me.
I am actually at a stage were I don't like a single player in the team, not one, which is a shocking place to be when we spent big on the summer.
24 Oct 2025 13:32:01
Stig, you've nailed so many of the frustrations that the whole fanbase is feeling right now, but I think it's important we also look at what's underneath it all — because, like you, I don't think this is just about Thelwell, Stewart or Cavanagh. It's deeper than that.
Yes, recruitment has been a disaster for years, and yes, Thelwell and Co. look totally out of their depth when it comes to understanding the size, pressure, and expectation that comes with Rangers. You're absolutely right — at Everton, finishing mid-table keeps people in jobs; at Rangers, it gets you run out the door. The psychology of this club is unique, and too many of the people running it simply don't get that - YET.
But here's where I slightly differ. I don't think this is purely about players not being "Rangers class" — I think it's about leadership. We've had too many people in positions of power who treat Rangers like a case study instead of a football club with a heartbeat. You can't spreadsheet your way to success at Ibrox (although Hearts seem to be doing just that 🤣🤣 for now). You need vision, standards, authority, and above all — football men who understand what wearing that badge means.
You're spot on about Gerrard. He was the only one in recent times who truly imposed an identity — standards, discipline, togetherness. Players ran through walls for him because they feared letting him down. That's what leadership looks like. Since then, we've had a revolving door of managers, while the board has stood by preaching "process. "
And that's where your Tav point hits home too. It's not that he's suddenly a bad player — it's that he's a symbol of a culture that's lost its edge and certainly its mentality. Nobody above him is setting the tone - hopefully that changes now with Danny Rohl. Every great Rangers side was built on accountability from top to bottom. Right now, that chain of accountability is broken.
I'll be honest, I was sceptical about Danny Rohl at first. He's young, untested at this level, and it felt like another "project" appointment when we needed authority. But the more I've listened to him, the more I think that — if he's properly supported internally and externally — we might just get this right. The structure has to back him, not suffocate him. He needs room to breathe, not the chaos that's swallowed every manager before him.
You ask if it can change — I think it has to. Because if it doesn't, the fans will force it to. The protests, the noise, the sheer weight of frustration across the support are proof that the soul of the club is still alive. The hierarchy might be lost, but the fans aren't. And as long as that remains true, there's always a way back.
Like you, I miss the Ibrox roar. But maybe that roar comes back the moment someone — players, manager, and board members — finally stand up unuted, remembers what Rangers means, and has the courage to demand better. Until then, we keep shouting. Because silence would mean we've given up — and that's one thing Rangers fans will never do.
Here's hoping it comes together by 2nd November 🙏.
24 Oct 2025 13:40:12
Stig, it will change once we get rid of Thelwell and his pals and get a whole new squad of players, so no time soon at all!
Last night was a new low for me, they couldn't even muster up the new manager bounce that most teams do when a new man comes in.
I thoroughly beleive that last year we would have taken 6/ 7 points from those first 3 games, we have regressed at an alarming rate. I honestly have the fear for the rest of our season, we've had every excuse getting put up for these so called football players, unfit, shackled because of manager, style of play, confidence etc etc, but they just aren't good enough it's blatantly obvious to me anyway. Our recruitment has been nothing but absolutely shambolic, from 11.5m spent on 2 players that we'll never get a penny back for in chermiti / Fernandes to a whole back line of loans we spent millions on, Rothwell, Antman, Aasgaard, Miovski even gassama, couple of good goals but his crossing is non existent for a winger lbh.
I honestly don't know where we go from here. On the way back home last night on the plane, it dawned on me how poor we are and that horrible feeling of knowing we need another rebuild, it feels like we have that feeling every year, they have totally underestimated our club. 💔
Asa well done to you and your team, you guys deserved it. Big shout out to the people of Bergen very welcoming, plenty of nice conversations around football. There fans were at it from the first whistle to the last, love support like that. One thing that wasn't pleasant was the prices, why is everything so pricey asa? Beautiful city, brilliant people 👏.
24 Oct 2025 14:50:46
Bb it willl take time to change when Thelwell leaves.
24 Oct 2025 11:41:15
What must Danny Rohl be thinking after his 1st game in charge? How many players would he want to keep? This guy has a massive challenge on his hands. At 36 years old will he be up for it? Does he realise the size of the task ? Does he realise the size of Rangers.
Rohl will need all the help he can get from good people around him, so that means getting rid of the Thelwell and Stewart. If those 3 are still pulling the strings then that'll be the end of Rohl's career at Rangers.
Agree3
Disagree0
24 Oct 2025 12:40:52
If these two are involved in any capacity in the January transfer window we're doomed. There needs to be a concerted effort to get rid and get the right people in before the window opens.
24 Oct 2025 12:42:59
He has tried to get the Rangers job twice now, so I would assume that he knows what he's up against and yesterday demonstrated it once again. He's just in the door so he will be getting to know the players, I do feel that Cornelius should have played somewhere last night and that was his choice.
You'll need to clear up though, Thelwell and Stewart are only two people who is the other one you haven't mentioned?
24 Oct 2025 12:49:55
I would guess that he's seeing a huge opportunity to help a squad who are in a real dark place and he's excited to start the process of turning things around.
Going by his pressers, the way he conducted himself in the stadium and in the airport - he doesn't seem to be phased by the challenges.
24 Oct 2025 12:59:37
Baxter,
What's age/ ability got do with it? Most important is identifying rubbish get rid ASAP. That includes Thelwell/ Stewart. Surely answerable to 49ers somewhere. If they set up by 49ers they must be under scrutiny like rest after result like yesterday.
We were toothless yesterday but perfect example their totally useless input. More importantly, if 49ers keen input more funds there not going to head project with Thelwell / Stewart. Good money after bad so to speak.
24 Oct 2025 13:12:46
'Why did i sign for this club', probably 😂.
24 Oct 2025 13:51:53
Millerbrand - Thelwell has already been told he'll be in charge of any January signings.
24 Oct 2025 14:29:57
What have I let myself in for - probably.
24 Oct 2025 14:46:25
There is a good chance that he is thinking why on earth have Rangers employed The Thelwell family and friends, and he may also be praying at night that they are not involved come January. 🙏.
24 Oct 2025 15:18:32
EHL, I hope you are so right, football like other occuptions it is so easy to talk the talk. But can he walk the walk? It takes more than having all the coaching badges and an ipad/ laptop to achieve true success at Rangers. I really hope my fears are so unfounded, but I am terrified that he turns to be our version of Ian Cathro.
Please tell me my fears are unfounded and that he is a much better option that Gerrard, who I so much believed in before, and still 100% he was the man to restore standards at our Great club.

Nothing like getting right behind the coach 🤯.
Who would you have in there and don't say SG because he has walked twice now. He wouldn't do anything with that squad either failed 3 times with better squads.
24 Oct 2025 12:58:24
I was sitting reading this article and got a fright when I saw it wasn't my name at the end of it! 😅
I think I've probably covered the same ground in some of my past articles about the new board and their long-term vision.
But you'll notice that many people tend to skip over that part.
For one, no one really knows what's going on but everyone surely has an opinion about it (they just don't want to share it openly on the thread! ).
Cavanagh I feel has his eyes opened now and will be assessing what's been going on in transfer side of things and undoubtedly will be asking serious questions behind closed doors
Surely?
will Thelwell and Purdy even Stewart get until the January transfer window I'm not so certain now!
I think we might see some changes come the new year!
24 Oct 2025 13:01:16
So there is the voice of our supporters, manager written off after 2 days on board. from what you are saying then no manager would last a season right. let's get behind him, give the man a chance to change the mindset of who we have, get rid of if possible the ones he can't change and see where we go from there.
i do agree that Thelwell and Stewart need to go.
24 Oct 2025 13:25:17
None of this mess Sunshine is on Rohl so i am more than prepared to give him time. I think we have no choice. Rohl took the job so let's back him 100%. You are also right that those above need to be moved on and people that do get how big we are and what kind of job needs done is vital.
24 Oct 2025 13:41:39
Disagree entirely my friend I fully believe Danny Röhl will be a success and move onto a higher standard than any of our previous bosses.
I believe Danny will manage a top Bundesliga side in the not to distant future.
24 Oct 2025 13:49:13
I think it should be titled Danny Rohl won't succeed at Rangers while Thelwell is there.
I saw nothing last night to disagree with much of what you say ssfc. I get told i'm laughable by mystar who I notice hasn't posted, for criticising Chermiti. Him and Miovski are a very poor brace of strikers and Danilo will not get many goals if any.
I said a few times when people were calling for a squad clearest to be careful what you wish for.
In 4 players we shipped out 63 goals last season and replaced them with the aforementioned brace and Antman, a winger who ner goes down the outside to get a ball into the box.
Dessers who many slaughtered on here should have been kept.
I can't remember the last time I was so down about our club.
I use football as an escape from the other parts of my life that are difficult to manage. It now has me even more on a downward spiral and I wonder if its worth the bother anymore.
I lbow that many of you are dog friendly. We have always had either one or two cats. Our current cat is now very old and if we lose her I don't know what my future will hold.
Im tired and j7st about done.
Rangers are no longer part of an escape. Just another depression.
24 Oct 2025 13:58:17
Storm, I thought ss was saying that no manager stands a chance with those above him, maybe I picked it up wrong. If he is saying that I agree, as not one of Thelwells signings have worked out, yes not even one, so if he's making the same decisions that he has been, then I to fear for the managers job.
After watching that sorry lot last night this became more clear to me that any manager we hired was doomed, working below that inept lot.
24 Oct 2025 14:06:59
How can you write him off already🤦♂️ going by your logic Gerrard wouldn't have lasted this season either if he was given the job again. Rohl might not be the man to fix us but we need to let him try and give him our backing, we all know the limitations of our current squad so he needs our help.
We can't simply say our team is rotten let's give up and not try to fix things, if that's the way to go we are as well locking the doors right now.
Yes we are in a mess but that isn't Rohl fault, its the 2 fuds above him. We need to keep maximum pressure on to get them gone as long as it doesn't cross the line.
24 Oct 2025 14:15:06
Just as i thought, the usual suspects jump straight in with both feet without actually understanding what I posted. 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
24 Oct 2025 14:23:38
If Stewart, Thelwell and the rest of the keystone cops remain, D Rohl hasn't got a leg to stand on. D Rohl will fall on their sword, and I fear he'll be the scapegoat.
If anyone would care to actually open their mind, and think about what I posted, then they would see I'm not writing him off on his own, but more the whole club as it stands.
D Rohl does not possess the experience or skill to stop this rot, especially with Thelwell and Stewart's shackles on him.
If the club was in a much healthier state, with the right owners, board etc behind him, then he would stand a chance. But he doesn't!
When Rohl is sacked (he will), I hope you all remember what was posted here.
24 Oct 2025 14:25:20
Thanks JFM09 and Bb4 - at least you can see the trees for the woods.
24 Oct 2025 15:37:15
Bb4 nope he said on live chat as much last night. He has throwing his toys out the pram because sg didn't come 🤯.
24 Oct 2025 15:40:06
JFM, I said laughable at writing any player off after under 250 minutes, my opinion hasn't changed on that.
24 Oct 2025 15:50:30
Got to the second line and left, I'm not accepting that kind of negative p1sh at any point. Try supporting the team and backing the manager, you never know it might pay off. If Rohl succeeds and wins silverware, don't you dare come on here celebrating. In my opinion, you are the kind of supporter we don't need.
24 Oct 2025 16:10:47
And I told you I hadn't written any player off and was commenting on what I had seen. Three times, now 4 you have accused me of it. I was trying to suggest ways to get him scoring to boost his confidence. I couldn't have made it any clearer but you chose to ignore it and just continued to say I had written him off.
24 Oct 2025 16:11:30
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ah, the old 'toys out the pram'!
It's very difficult to get through something so dense, JFM, so I wouldn't even bother.
I really can't wait to he's screaming for his head when it all goes wrong. He never learns, and that's why he's laughed at so much. I hope he never changes!
24 Oct 2025 16:22:22
"Don't you dare"?! Sorry big man, i didn't mean to offended you! 🤣🤣🤣🤣.
24 Oct 2025 16:30:34
Fine JFM.
24 Oct 2025 12:10:48
I agree that Rohl should get time to sort things, but starting Rothwell, Djiga and Chermiti last night beggars belief.
Agree1
Disagree0
24 Oct 2025 12:22:31
Certainly a strange line up.
24 Oct 2025 12:46:23
I did think Cornelius should have started maybe even at left back rather than the hopeless Meghoma. I would always have Barrons energy before Rothwell but Miovski has been just as bad as Chermiti and offers nothing off the ball so it was a coin toss for me, although the option of going back to Danilo is still there and looking more likely as every match goes by.
24 Oct 2025 12:56:30
Probably picked by Thelwell no doubt.
24 Oct 2025 14:34:18
Rothwell looked busted when he came off. His forehead was scarlet. Why is he so unfit?
24 Oct 2025 14:59:02
After watching them play in the flesh he's probably thinking why were they even signed in the first place.
Just watched Super Ally on talksport and his words about the Chermiti deal were "holly molly guacamolly £8.5m for a guy who played 400 mins for Everton with zero goals"
24 Oct 2025 12:10:03
I'll start by saying that this isn't intended to be a 'bash Thelwell' post. If Rohl can't get a tune out of these players or any subsequent players that are brought in in January. What happens next? Do we sack Rohl and try again? Serious question - what do we do?
Agree0
Disagree0
24 Oct 2025 12:30:53
I would suggest we are as low as we've been morale wise since our return to top flight, rohl needs time to unravel this monster that's been created over the last few months. As the song says things can only get better. we hope! Europe is gone let's just sort ourselves for league, In my humble opinion I'd get more scots into first 11 Cameron, Barron, and believe it or not Bajrami, I think if played in Aasgaard's position he would do way better than he has done.
Antman and Gassama need to improve vastly and after Igamane and Dessers sold we are toothless through the middle.
24 Oct 2025 12:43:31
No, I believe Rohl to be the right man/ Thelwell is completely at fault in the poor recruitment and should be involved in future deals … in or out.
24 Oct 2025 12:48:43
Thelwell says he has never signed a player the manager didn't want so if Rohl got new signings that he couldn't get a tune out of it will be as much his fault.
It will be interesting to see if Martin agrees with that statement when he eventually sells his story to the media, as we all know he will.
