Rangers banter 5
Use our rumours form to send us rangers transfer rumours.
22 May 2026 19:05:52
Ehl we spoke very briefly about Wilson going to USA. Do u think he has a future at harts. I was out today for lunch and at our table was some one from the Motherwell academy
He said that Motherwell want James Wilson but Rangers r the favourites, I know we wanted him before he went to spurs but Hearts were not interested.

22 May 2026 19:47:54
The lad has about a dozen offers on the table and in my opinion he's the real deal.
We've made no secret about our desire to sign him, which seriously upset Hearts, so imagine they'd make life difficult for us.
If we sign him, it's as good as a marquee signing if you ask me.
22 May 2026 19:51:46
Cheers Ehl, yes, the boy is the real deal.
22 May 2026 20:05:21
Could we honestly say he'd be a Marquee signing, a 19 year old from Hearts with 30 games under his belt?
I'll be honest, my expectations are far higher than that.
I'm happy to sign him, but if that's the standard of Marquee then we'll be lucky to be top 6.
22 May 2026 20:22:11
Said about Wilson a while ago now, actually said if signing a Hearts cf I'd prefer him, heard many positive things about him, told a better finisher than Wilson, and a couple had something to say, just left it, gets kinda boring when only telling what you're heard, I still know dozens of men involved in a game.
22 May 2026 20:59:31
Would it be a loan for Wilson or are we looking at a permanent transfer?
Would be a great signing.
22 May 2026 21:19:54
Is this the boy who's 19?
What age is Moore?
Chermiti.
If he's a good player, and young and talented and has great potential, why can't he be a marquee signing?
We paid 8 million for Chermiti.
English clubs pay a fortune for young talent. Let's not knock them, guys, we need young talented players.
It also shows a clear football strategy.
Getting young talented players in before their price explodes, and it shows we can still entice young talented players to our club and league, which benefits the league as a whole, surely!
22 May 2026 21:29:13
There can be different types of marquee signings Dado, I'd say signing one of the best young Scottish talents in our league is definitely one - especially with the interest he will have around him. That doesn't mean our other marquee signings would also be 19 year olds with 30 games under their belts.
22 May 2026 21:50:18
Chemiti and Moore are cracking examples of a marquee signing going wrong, Stig, you're bang on the money.
These marquee signings managed to scrap 3rd in the league, Wilson within the same bracket would secure top 6.
Don't get me wrong. I'm more than happy to sign the lad, and he will go on to have a cracking career.
He's got a lot of potential, but if you think signing him will win us the league, you're naive at best.
Our marquee signings need to be the difference between first and last. No more crazy money on youth unless we're happy to wait until Celtic are going for 10 again. Up to you guys, but I only want to win, nothing else.
22 May 2026 21:54:05
His contract at Hearts expires in 2027 and he was on loan at Spurs, who have an option to buy. However, that's dependent on the player wanting to move.
He has a lot of interest from multiple leagues and we've been trying to sign him for years.
In terms of how he plays, he's often compared to Torres. Before anyone overreacts, this is in terms of how he plays.
Strikers of his type are a bit of a rarity in the game.
22 May 2026 22:27:59
Spurs buy option was around 1.5m, I'm sure, or very similar.
22 May 2026 22:33:27
I seen a video of Torres about 6 months ago. He was arguing with another coach on the side-lines. You should see the size of his arms. The guy must be doing a bit of lifting these days.
22 May 2026 22:35:36
Thought the loan to Spurs was a strange one. No idea how it went tho. Dado would hardly say Chermiti and Moore are examples of deals gone wrong. They were 2 of our better players and let down by many others. I'd much rather invest in a Wilson than on Olsen any day.
22 May 2026 23:19:36
3rd Kaiser, 3rd, not the standard and not the Rangers I know.
Project players being sold as Marquee.
You guys can't honestly believe these signs, with this season's Marquee signing being James Wilson?
Is this where our standards are these days? Are you guys happy being 3rd or even 2nd?
22 May 2026 23:43:53
Dado, Wilson won't be the main cf, but very good replacement for Miovski, especially being Scottish, mate.
23 May 2026 00:21:45
Nobody said signing him would win us the league and nobody said they want this season's marquee signing to be only James Wilson. Can you only make one marquee signing in a window?
Signing a great young talent from Scotland who's seen to have a great future, with lots of teams sniffing around, could be seen in its own right as a marquee signing.
You're just being pedantic about the word marquee, everyone is saying it would be a great signing and I don't disagree.
23 May 2026 04:00:16
Would be a cracking signing, my star, and one I'd be happy with, but there's no way he's a marquee signing.
23 May 2026 05:51:59
Rohlwithcheese, aye, Torres is a unit of a lad, sure when he retired he opened his own gym or gym franchise in Spain. I get what you mean, ehl, how style can be a bit unpredictable, but was ultimately very effective in his younger days, a player with any of the quality attributes Fernando had shouldn't be sniffed at.
23 May 2026 07:19:25
Torres was an outstanding striker when at Liverpool. π At that time, one of the very best in Europe easily. π
23 May 2026 07:57:49
Dado and there is the problem. These young lads were two of our best players last season and, given time to develop, will win us the league over and over again as we build a squad adding further experience and potential. Gone are the days when we buy in England internationals so if you aren't willing to be patient, Rangers might not be the watch for you just now.
James Wilson is probably the best young striker in our league and probably further afield as well.
He was described as being 'like' a marquee signing as in something to get excited about. If we can compete with Spurs and manage to get him, I would be excited as to what he can do in near future. Already scoring goals in SPFL in limited game time he was getting.
Just shows that whoever we sign there will be someone moaning about it somewhere and not killing to give them a decent chance.
23 May 2026 09:20:07
Would be a good signing for me. Young, Scottish, high potential.
23 May 2026 09:26:08
The only moaning, Angus, is 3rd in the league. If that's your expectations just now, then that is the real problem with the Rangers fans just now.
Both players were okay, but there's plenty of debate on here about Moore and Curtis, for example, plenty of strong arguments relating to who had the better season. Let's not pretend to ourselves to suit an agenda that Moore was the second coming of Laudrup. He was decent, not a world beater.
Chermiti was awful for the first few months, he went through a period of time when he looked like he'd never played football before, then he found some confidence and consistency which helped him establish himself as a good solid first team player.
These guys are decent players today, nothing more. They will both continue to grow and have solid careers, but please don't sell this as we had two of the best youth players in Europe in our team, because they didn't.
If you're not here to win the league then you are 100% part of the problem with Rangers fans.
23 May 2026 09:47:22
Gotta love this site at times.
A thread about us being linked with the possible signing of one of the top teenage talents in our country turns into another 'we'll be lucky to finish 6th' thread.
AC has come out and publicly stated that the club will be prioritising signing experienced leaders who can bring the qualities that we've been missing - so it appears abundantly obvious that those signings are aimed at getting us back to the top ASAP.
However, for those with selective reading, I posted 'As good as a marquee signing'.
Again, without stating the obvious, if I thought it would be a marquee signing I'd have simply said 'It would be a marquee signing'.
23 May 2026 10:22:22
He's not as good as a marquee signing, EHL, and I think you know that. He would be a good asset to the squad, and perhaps in a few seasons we'd be relying on him to be a first team key player. I'd love to get him over the line.
However, I do hope we sign leaders and have one or two 'as good as a marquee signing' which will help us win the league and stop the rot of losing mentality which we've had for years.
23 May 2026 10:34:34
EHL, is correct. Young James Wilson would be a superb piece of business for us, if we could possibly sign him. π A very talented young footballer. π
23 May 2026 11:04:45
Please don't tell me what I know and don't know, Dado.
I believe he would be, hence why I posted it.
23 May 2026 11:11:48
For all the talk of no projects, it seems very much like projects are exactly what we are targeting.
23 May 2026 11:36:34
If I could sign one player from Hearts it would be Wilson al day every day.
They were prepared to sell him to Spurs for two million which includes add ons.
Forever, get what u mean. However, that's where I say we need to be smart, experience, project, OOC, couple low value, 3/4 blockbuster around 6 million and definitely our academy.
23 May 2026 11:38:38
Yes, going with rumours forever, but that's all it is, rumours, leadership and experience will be signed, don't for one minute think Cavenagh is talking nonsense.
23 May 2026 12:24:39
I didn't tell you what you know, Ehl, read the post again. 'I think you know.' 'I think' just like you didn't say he was a marquee signing. π€ π
22 May 2026 19:02:21
EHL question for you mate. You alluded to in an earlier thread that writing was on the wall for some over paid players who give back very little. I might be well off but I take from that the leadership group and I agree, my question would you include Raskin in this group of bad eggs?
Agree2
Disagree0
22 May 2026 19:28:48
Agreed, John, I think if Roofe did not have as many injuries he could have played in a top6 side. He still had a decent overall career, though, and one he should be proud of imo.
22 May 2026 19:35:05
If Roofe was 100% he would never have been at Rangers, clever player beset by a poor recovery rate.
22 May 2026 19:49:40
Wishy, it was both players and staff I referenced and I 100% would not include Raskin in that category.
Most of those in that category are players and staff we've overpaid for in order to lure them North of the Border.
22 May 2026 19:54:52
Whiisy, I know your question is for Ehl. Raskin stood up to Martin and Dowell. Souttar, Tav and Butland backed the manager.
Raskin had no time for our leadership group, especially Dowell and Tav, weak gutless people.
22 May 2026 19:59:22
Thanks for the reply, John and Ehl. I'm glad the club is finally going to be moving on from Butland, Tav, Souttar, etc. I'm sick of the same old story every season with them.
22 May 2026 21:22:32
Good info, guys
Can't believe Dowell was even part of that. π
Who actually is Dowell - how he thought he was part of a leadership is beyond words.
22 May 2026 21:48:20
Stig, this was a Martin production. Should have been sacked there and then.
He was seen as a senior pro.
22 May 2026 15:59:06
Anyone with any friends or family, or if there are any young'uns, on here who are involved in youth football, I recommend you check out Roofes Two Halves Journal that he's been promoting at Ibrox.
He's really leaned on the mental resilience and support he needed throughout his injuries to create something I think would be really beneficial to young players.
Lol, p. s. I'm not paid for this endorsement.

22 May 2026 17:44:41
I was hoping he was going to join the backroom team when I saw his video, think he would be a good appointment for a striker coach, would help Chermiti.
22 May 2026 18:23:11
The most naturally gifted striker we've had for years and showed that when he was on it he certainly was on it. Must have been a nightmare for him having to cope with horrendous injury problems.
22 May 2026 18:30:25
Seeker Roofe was a magnificent goalscorer.
22 May 2026 18:37:32
I absolutely agree, Seeker π Roofe was a very talented striker, and it's so sad that his injury issues put paid to his football career, which most definitely should have been a brilliant career. βΉοΈ
22 May 2026 18:42:42
I wanted Stooge at Ibrox when he was at Leeds, but he went to Anderlecht, I believe. I used to live in South Yorkshire and was always impressed when I saw him play. Great player, such a shame injuries hampered him. I'm not sure we'd ever have got him, if he was fit most of the time.
22 May 2026 18:47:32
Will look it up, thanks. Grassroots coach of 16 7 year olds. Need all the help I can get. Any other tips/content would be greatly appreciated. π
22 May 2026 18:51:09
If he did not have chronic injury issues, we would never have seen him at Rangers.
22 May 2026 18:55:40
Roofe was a big difference maker in 55, and I'll always be grateful for him for that. If he didn't have injury issues, I don't think he would have ever played at Ibrox.
22 May 2026 19:02:22
I agree, wishy. π If Roofe was injury free, he could have played in the English Premier League with any of the top clubs. π€ Extremely talented striker. π
22 May 2026 19:12:22
How can he be the most gifted striker we've had in years when Jermain Defoe was actually playing at the same time?
22 May 2026 19:55:24
GeoGers, always happy to answer any questions.
My biggest tips would be to ignore the SFA and look at Spain's Bio-Banding and ball sizes.
It's amazing how quickly players improve when the physical playing field is levelled.
22 May 2026 19:56:30
At the time, Roofe was better than Defoe. However, Defoe had the far better career.
22 May 2026 21:09:15
EHL, is Kemar Roofe currently working within our youth academy, doing what he's doing or any coaching etc, mate? π€ Do think there's any chance that Kemar Roofe could be a coach at Rangers within our youth academy, EHL? π€
22 May 2026 21:42:03
Thanks for the reply, EHL. I'll certainly look that up.
22 May 2026 21:43:50
SWS, he's doing his own thing within the game.
I like what he's doing and he seems pretty genuine in his interest to use his experiences to help others.
I'm sure he'll make money, but I get the feeling there's a bit of substance to him too.
23 May 2026 07:23:12
I rated both Kemar Roofe and Jermain Defoe very highly. π So, taking injuries away and going on ability alone, and if both were, let's say, 25 years old, who do you rate the better striker in ability only, and who would you take first at Rangers, Roofe V Defoe? π€ This should be very interesting. π€ π¬π§
23 May 2026 08:37:49
Sws, Defoe everyday of the week and twice on a Sunday, mate.
23 May 2026 10:10:12
Defoe was levels above Roofe in terms of finishing and ability. His career shows that and Defoe had horrific injuries as well.
Roofe was a good player and could score goals but nowhere near the level of Defoe.
22 May 2026 14:45:39
After seeing pep guardiola's last pre match press conference regarding confirming he's leaving as man city manager after their last league game on sunday at home to villa it got me thinking about an honourable thing our club should have done many years ago π€City have already confirmed/put in place a renaming of one of their stands at the Etihad which will happen on sunday, in honour of their departing legendary manager pep guardiola and the stand will now be renamed "THE PEP GUARDIOLA STAND" π That's the outstanding way you treat your legendary manager πI've said many times before and i'll say it again WHY i think our club should have absolutely honoured our legendary/most successful manager of the modern era in the same way when he retired all those years ago βΉοΈWe as a club imo absolutely should have honoured the late, great walter smith in this same way by renaming the copland road stand ie."THE WALTER SMITH COPLAND ROAD STAND" once walter retired, so walter and all his family and friends would be present when receiving this honour from our club for what he done and achieved for Glasgow Rangers π€It always has/still angers me so much, that this wasn't done for the legendary walter smith π‘

22 May 2026 15:07:01
Only thing I would say is, what if this wasn't what Walter Smith wanted.
22 May 2026 15:19:35
My cousin and his ex wife actually stayed beside Walter and Ethel for a time, and I've met both Walter and his wife Ethel on a good few occasions when down visiting my cousin many years ago now. I also know one of Walter's sons, Steven. π So EHL, to answer your question, as honestly as I can from what I know about Walter, I would think he'd have been humble if asked about a possible stand being named after him, but imo he would have been extremely honoured if our club had just gone ahead and honoured him in this way.
π€ π¬π§ I still think our club should do it now and honour the late, great Walter Smith in this way, EHL. π€
22 May 2026 15:35:21
Interesting.
I always thought that we'd proposed a significant gesture that Walter himself declined.
22 May 2026 15:56:47
EHL on the button. He declined a previous offer, as he felt there were too many deserving of that tribute, not least of all Davy Cooper.
22 May 2026 15:58:02
Ehl, imo you're correct.
22 May 2026 16:02:04
Yeah, I always heard that he felt those who pulled on the jersey were more deserving of the tributes.
Which, I guess, is no surprise, as he was one hell of a man.
22 May 2026 16:02:42
I definitely don't doubt both you guys, Ehl and John, but to my knowledge Walter wasn't offered the honour of a stand being named after him. π€
22 May 2026 16:57:06
Ask Steven and let us know, Coops. π€
22 May 2026 17:54:40
Walter, so our ex manager is telling lies. The man I know was not like that. He was very humble.
22 May 2026 17:56:47
I would, Scotty, but I haven't seen Steven for a good number of years now, mate. π€ I honestly don't know if he'd say anyway, tbh, I don't think I'd ask him that, mate. π€
22 May 2026 18:08:06
He's got a well deserved statue already, mate.
22 May 2026 18:10:55
The man would've been befitting of having Ibrox named after him. What John and Ehl have outlined is what I would expect from the man and how people have always portrayed him, very humble.
I love his statue at Ibrox. Only had the pleasure of meeting him once very briefly. Wish we had him around now to be a voice in the room with the new owners and around the club. God bless you, Sir Walter.
22 May 2026 18:29:24
Cooper, good post, he was in the top 3 of men ever involved in our club.
Bill Struth
Willie Waddle
Walter Smith
I remember being a very young child and meeting Mr Struth with my dad, he gave me a coin re Rangers I still have it. My dad said he was God.
22 May 2026 18:36:54
John, why do you take out of everything I post the bad, mate. π€ As far as I know, Walter was never asked. I'm not stating you or Ehl are wrong or telling lies. π‘ You need to give this a by, mate. I'm fed up with it tbh. π‘
22 May 2026 18:54:43
How am I taking something out of it? As far as I know, straight from him he was.
I was a very close friend with him.
Makes no difference now. The great man is gone.
I keep telling u, block me. If you post something totally wrong, imo, I'm going to post what I know.
22 May 2026 19:07:26
I'll tell you what you're doing wrong, John, as you're letting it go over your head. π‘ You're insinuating that I'm saying Walter Smith is telling lies. π‘ That's what you posted! Regarding Wullie Waddle, he was my granny's second cousin and was from the forth, I take it you don't believe that either. π€
22 May 2026 19:09:24
I don't block anyone, John. π€ But you absolutely call me out for most things, but there's one thing I'm not, a liar. π‘
22 May 2026 19:38:54
Walter Smith's name is synonymous with our club. He needs no fanfare to be remembered.
22 May 2026 20:00:44
Walter, dry your eyes, it's ok for you to call me petty names, but u don't like it back. I stayed next door to Waddell in Hyndland. Small world.
At no time do I state you're telling lies.
22 May 2026 20:26:00
John, that's an incredible story about meeting Bill Struth. If you've posted that before, I have missed it. Thanks for sharing. Would love to have met all those 3 and spent a little bit of time in their company.
22 May 2026 20:45:59
Coopers, no, I've never said it on here before. My aunt was Waddell's cleaner when he lived beside Hyndland Road.
I was very fortunate to spend time with Waddell and Smith. Many a dinner, wine, spirit shared.
22 May 2026 21:27:25
Amazing John, nothing else for it, I'll need to meet you one day to hear more instead!
22 May 2026 21:52:10
Coopers, I actually don't share many personal stories. Ceryaiynot on social media.
If u like a drink, u would have loved to listen to Baxter. He was legendary, and lock ins on a Saturday were something else.
23 May 2026 01:02:26
And for what it's worth
Auchenhowie, across from my home, should be named after Walter,
23 May 2026 15:46:04
Calm down lads.
Walter has said himself that he declined the offer of a stand being named after him. I'm sure of that.
If that's wrong, then it was the statue that he declined.
Absolutely he declined to have a permanent honour in his name. That's a fact.
22 May 2026 14:05:39
Both myself and My star were quite vocal on here regarding how much we hoped Rangers would sign former sunderland captain and midfielder, dan neil πNot long after reading a report that there's a good few clubs chasing his signature and now valencia are interested in him βΉοΈ What's your thoughts My star π€I hope i'm wrong, but i think we're going to struggle to be able to sign dan neil mate, unfortunately βΉοΈ

Morning fellow amnesiacs π. I said previously that Butland was a scare and should be replaced. Many coming out the woodwork and spouting the same. Vindicated π
As for Kelly signing up. he's a back up in my book.
Gave me the Herby jeebies in a Scotland shirt. But we've got him and that's that
Some glad of a clear out. I'm in total agreement however some have forgotten others still on the books. Danilo, McCausland, Cifuentes? Etc. we are on the right track though.
