Although most replies seem to be about Alfredo rather than Shankland my opinion is that Shankland needs to prove himself in this league 1st before we think about buying him.
His goal record in lower league was brilliant and he done well in cup games against teams from top flight and even managed an International goal so I’m well aware of the potential but like Nicky Clark until he actually gets 20 goals in top flight he is too big a gamble for me.
I like Dykes who although only managed 12 last 3/ 4 of a season he is a different type of striker from what we have, Shankland is more like Defoe and could be his replacement in future.

I just can’t see how a player like Shankland will work in our system. I’m not saying he’s a bad player. I really don’t know how good he’ll be at this level as he’s pretty much untested, and he does appear to be a good finisher. However as we saw from yesterday and the preseason games are main central striker (ie Morelos at this point) seems to be getting asked to play deeper at times than last year, as a linking player, pulling the centre backs out of position and creating space for the likes of Kent Hagi and others to move into the space. Again this is very much the way Liverpool play. Firminio plays in the middle but ends up creating much more than he scores by dropping a bit deeper. I can’t see Shankland Being able to play that role as his link up play isn’t strong.

This year of all years we need a proven striker not someone who hasn’t been tested in the top league, if you look at the bench yesterday it was weak not one player that would change the game nothing to excite the fans we need more quality players in the door a right winger another striker and a midfielder it’s a long season as for Alphie never have I seen a Rangers player take so much rubbish yesterday was the first game of the season no player is st the top level of match fitness yet he still ran himself into the ground as he was told to do by SG he was playing deep then up top great ball for the goal and he had no service in front of goal we need to create more chances we had the same problem last year.

Don’t get this rush for Shankland yes he’s scored goals in the Championship but so did Nicky Clark but he couldn’t cut it, we can’t gamble here we need a proven goal scorers, if Alphie goes it will be very hard to replace him, I know he’s not everybody’s cup of tea but he gets twenty five to thirty goals a season and what he brings to the pitch in work rate and link up play is top drawer, even yesterday he didn’t score he didn’t really have an opportunity but he set the goal up he came deep to help the midfield and had more touches than anyone else (sky stats) so we need a proven player or two in fact I think we need a good right winger the bench yesterday was not strong enough, one or two injuries and we would struggle.
