Heard from a mate who supports other mob, Celtic readying a bid of 3.5m for Shankland, if true I'd think that would rule us out unless the board throw money at PC.

Onewaltersmith, i posted this regarding shankland earlier on and was told as much by a hearts shareholder of many years, that celtic will offer hearts £3.5million plus a player for the signature of lawrence shankland ?That most definitely rules us out because we won't pay that for shankland?If he signs for celtic he signs for them because although he's a good striker, i don't think we would/ should pay anywhere near £4million-£5million for a 28 year old, who's only got around 18months left on his current hearts contract ?I would much rather pay that sort of dough for a 24 year old striker, who's under contract for longer at aberdeen ie bojan miovski ?.

In my opinion yes can score goals can hold the ball up bringing others into play something we haven’t really got. People say he’s not good enough but proved he can do it against teams in the league and in my opinion league is the main priority.

Can’t see Shankland going anywhere in January, come the summer he will be less than two million with a year left on contract if we want him and he wants to come to us and no one else then Hearts cannot do much they either keep a unhappy player for one season or take the money and reinvest, I’ve a feeling we might get a player Clement has managed who is older, we can get back to young players that will make money come the summer window, serious money for league winners with 8 games in CL so get injuries back and another proven goal scorer we should have a great chance.

Bluedreamer81,i'm not suggesting that shankland isn't a good striker and natural goalscorer but he won't get the space against opposing teams against rangers that he does for hearts ?So if we do eventually sign shankland not one of us can say for definite that he would score a barrowload of goals for us ?.

My take on this regarding Shankland and Mijovski is that they both are vastly overpriced for age and experience and that I would far rather look in the open market for a striker than give Hearts or Dons big cash - I wanted Gers to take chance on Shankland when at Ayr Utd (fee of buttons with no relative risk) and much though I feel he would do a job for us short term it would be cash we will never see back - Mijovski would be more an option regarding resale value - board and manager have major decision on these two and I will stand by PC on his choice but can't see us realistically spending around 5 mill on Shankland or 3-5 million on Mijovski for that matter - I still have major major doubts about Dessers but if he COULD and I say COULD continue upward trend then maybe we have enough goals in team to get us through -we would be in sticky position if big Sima was out for any time as he is our main threat at moment from all front players - I feel we are caught between Devil and deep blue sea as lots on here feel that League and cups are an automatic if we sign one of these two players - truth is there are many areas of our team that need upgraded and wonder where big PC's priorities actually lie - interesting times ahead
On another note Its going to be a slog at a wet Hampden today where mistakes could be evident - I pray that PC has us up for a true battle till the end.

It was reported earlier in week, that Hearts want 5m, which probably means they'll accept close to 4m so 3.5m seems decent to me, scottish internationalist, scores for fun and against rangers and celtic. Captain of they're team. At 28, we're getting him in pretty much prime.
Will this be another "he's not rangers class and overpriced" then on here next year saying, we should have bought Shankland when we had the chance, it's a no trainer for me.

Personally, I think Shankland would be a good signing for the league when you think about the balls Tav and Borna whip into the box Shankland would eat them up all day long my fear would be that in Europe where we don't have as much of the ball he's like Boydy and mostly a passenger.

Shankland would never sign for celtic he is a die hard Rangers Fan, it would be like Barry Ferguson going to Celtic back in the Day would never happen. His Family are all massive rangers fans as well.
