People have raised a few doubts about big Phil but I've suggested it's wrong to judge given the debacle of a squad he has inherited. That said - he has made two huge mistakes previously imo and those were not starting Sterling in central midfield against the soap dodgers. If he does the same on Sunday (barring an injury fill at centre back) it would really make me question the big yin.

He made a bigger mistake in Sterling not starting at rb against them.

The midfield 3 has to be Sterling Diomande and Barron. I would be seriously concerned if Lawrence was in there.

I think his line up and formation were both miles off it in the last 2 league games. We did have a load of injuries though.
Similar issues will cost us again, but, let’s hope he adapts

David, same mate regarding TL. If lawrence and Tav start and we lose again PC is going to cop it. Lawrence needs dropped for this game need to go with legs which means sterling in midfield and Tav sadly will get another hiding no doubt.

I am sure everyone on here will agree that Celtic will be targeting Tav knowing that he can’t handle the pressure or Maeda, if PC still plays him without any change of formation then surely his tactics will have to be questioned. Stirling for right back.

Agree about Tav Big D, but Lawrence sprinted from his own half to get on the end of Matondo's ball for his goal late in the game, think his fitness is better than it was tbf.

Agree fork, I was surprised at how quick Lawrence was. As you say his fitness looks better and I think he's finally getting back to full following his injury.

problem is if manager doesn't t play the players fans think should play or the formation then he isn't good or cops it. Imagine doing your job with 50000 people telling you that you were doing it wrong all the time. What if Tav and TL play and we win or draw. will you still be right next week when the same thing happens. who would be a football manager.

Lawrence offers more attacking creativity and shoots from outside the box, probably first full pre season he's had in a while, I think he will kick on even more, been very unlucky with injuries, keep him fit he's a starter every week in my opinion.

Aside from one or two, we have average, often injury prone, players. Can say what we want but that's the bottom line. Let's not pretend Cantwell, Hagi etc would be the saviour, or that Tav leaving would solve the issue. No money to buy and can't get rid of average, injury prone players. Personally I can't judge Clement with this rubbish at his disposal.

Over reaction from many about today. We know many of the players are not at the level we would like but it seems that some have expected they would become world beaters over the summer - or that the chairmen can just send an email around Europe and get rid of players that have not exactly excelled with us, for the same or more money than we paid. You need to listen to what the Chairmen and the Manager, the leaders of our club, have told you. These younger guys we are buying will not be perfect, if they were they wouldn't be playing with us, they are hopefully being developed over a few years so that the club can sell them and avoid going to the wall and hopefully, we get enough of a tune that we can win the league in that time too. I think many of the moaners will be the same people that build up guys like Cantwell but denegrate guys like Tavernier. Sick listening to it.

Howwazthat2, some don’t understand that overhauling the squad while cutting the wage bill isn’t going to be done overnight,
They would prefer to get rid of players for less than value and panic buy which would leave us without a better squad and worse off financially.

I think a lot of people are being lazily dismissive of what a lot of us fans think. The "we know these players aren't good enough it takes time to change the squad" narrative is one I've been hearing a lot lately.
But that ignores a lot of our primary concern which is that we can't even see what we're trying to do. We can't see a style that we just don't have the players with quality to play. That it all just looks completely disjointed, hoof it long, no rotations, no patterns of play, seemingly no real plan.
If it were simply "we don't have quality players to do what we're trying to do" I'd be much more accepting. But I've genuinely no clue what we're even trying to do!
Compare it to when Postecoglu took over them. Yeah, we all thought it was hilarious watching some of the players they had at the time trying to do what he wanted and we ask thought it was crazy and he's be gone by Xmas. But you could never say they're wasn't a clear and obvious style there. Then he started adding his own players with not quality and actually improved some of the players he inherited and we were forced to stop laughing.
I don't see that in this Rangers setup. I don't see a style that players are incapable of implementing that gives me confidence better players is all we need. Yes, we absolutely need better players, but after 10 months I'm not seeing anything from the team in terms of the way we actually play to suggest that plugging in better players is going to make us the team at need to be.
I'm not going to bury my head in the sand. I'm willing to give him more time, but I need to see something, anything from the team to suggest we're actually trying to implement some sort of playing style. At the minute, I don't see that. It's turgid, slow, lacking in movement and the players don't even seem to be trying to set plays up on the park. It all seems off the cuff then punt it long.

We aren’t overhauling the squad tho that’s the issue we have got rid of players and not replaced them with 1st team starters.

the manager should have been much more savvy when telling players they can go, with ten games to go and a title in grabbing distance, and he should have known it would take discretion and sensibility to ease them out.

Someone mentioned earlier when talking about Ange hitting the Asian market than only 3 were a success, who were the last three signings we made from anywhere that have been a fairly undisputed success? Butland obviously but who else. I'm drawn way back to Goldson, Tav, Kent and Alfie signing but lots of people quite rightly imo have had serious reservations over all, so what's your thoughts guys? How far back do we need to go?

Bornabear, while both Bassey and Patterson generated us excellent money I do believe that we could have and should have generated a lot more. As one of our posters pointed out in an article, (unfortunately I can't remember who wrote the Article), a better negotiator would have secured much more upfront!

During the Wilson DoF era, I would suggest that the only success was Bassey and unfortunately, he was sold, albeit for a great fee. I would say that Kamara and Aribo were good acquisitions, but unless I am wrong, they were signed before the arrival of Wilson.
Thankfully, like other executives at the Club at the time, and I include Park in that, they are gone, and hopefully we can now look forward to a better future.

What makes a handball penalty these days folks? Genuinely. I'm cool with refs making mistakes. They're human. But if VAR doesn't intervene then it means they really must be pens, or must not be pens. And given one was given tonight and two not, and they seemed pretty similar in that they were not intentional, I really have no clue what a handball penalty is.

The difference was the ref giving one, if he hadn’t gave it VAR would not of either, it’s a cop out as the MAYO handball was more a pen than the Lundstrum one.

I agree Gordy. There's been a lot of negativity around Hagi on here which has surprised me as I think he offers something different - which we have been sorely lacking at times. His lack of pace means he will never be a worldy but can do a good job for us I feel.

I don't like comparisons to Morelos as despite his European record imo he wasn't the required standard either. Very little class or composure and was happy to see him and his shocking discipline go.
