Naturally, the term was quickly co-opted, commercialised, and weaponised as a political pejorative.
The pattern is always the same:
1. The Youth push for a fairer, more inclusive society by questioning the status quo.
2. The Establishment panics, claims the younger generation is too sensitive, and invents a buzzword to mock them.
3. Time Passes and the radical ideas become the new normal (like weekend labor laws, women voting, or basic civil rights), and the cycle resets with the next generation.

Unfortunately, terms like woke have been weaponised by those fringe sects that have an inability to convey their own thoughts and policy beliefs in a constructed manner.
I'm sure you will agree that this is very similar to those on the other end of the political spectrum using terms like fascist as a blanket term for someone who disagreed with them.
I believe these to be very strong evidence that the debate is over before it begins.

Yeah EHL, society always evolves and gets fairer but the past few years it's went totally bonkers and that's why people have an issue with "woke". For example the Green Party saying the words "mother and father" are not inclusive and not to be used by official party wording.
That's just going to far. And there is many such cases thru out the world. It's stopped being about helping people and it's not just identity politics.

EHL - I am also from the other end of the political spectrum but your post was well structured and thought provoking.
The biggest loss for me is the ability to have differing views now and 'agree to disagree'
The art of debate is gone.
It broke my heart when Charlie Kirk was assassinated.
Leave his politics aside, he was a young man of faith who was touring college campuses and teaching young people that it's ok to have different opinions, that you can debate without resorting to violence or cancelling people.
Our educational facilities are now hotbeds of evil ideologies that are intent on warping our young people.

Athole, I watched some videos a couple of years ago and they were showing that some children's nurseries in Glasgow were teaching the wains how to protest and they were making wee Palestine flags to hold up.
The whole education system has been infiltrated by extremists from nursery through to university.
It needs gutted and gutted very fast.
When a country needs a ruling from their Supreme Court to let folk know that a guy who wears a dress is in fact not a woman and should be no where near kids and women's changing rooms, it just shows how far this madness has been allowed to spread.
Also the fact that government wants to ban folk from home education and the high taxes on private education just proves that they are desperate to brain wash our children in the education system from as early as possible.

People from both sides of the political ideology have become far too precious of late.
This idea that things being 'woke' is threatening our national security and identity is just a distraction from the incompetence of those in charge of fixing the major issues facing the country. A lot of those economic problems are mathematically difficult tbh.
The right/far right got their own way of late, Cameron, May, Truss, Johnson, Sunak, Brexit the lot and things have arguably got worse economically.
However, being led to believe that just because people have certain views and are very 'noisy' about expressing them is 'ruining' the country is just infantile.
I'd go as far to say that those on the far right are about as snowflake as you can get as they whinge and whine about nearly any small change that occurs and are just as overly sensitive and precious as those on the far left.
My deceased grandfather spent 3 years in a Japanese prison of war camp and I can assure you, the older generation who have a hissy fit about the 'culture wars' going on today have lost a certain sense of relevant perspective.
