I've heard we've had a sniff around nelson weiper very highly rated but been frozen out of Mainz also hearing interest in skytaa but would be a Summer deal. Youness ebneoutalib is another name I've heard we have been watching not from a great source just from a mate of mine that's involved in agency's in football in Germany. Anyone else heard these names?

Just had a look at these players. Good numbers for the two outside weiper. He only has single digits for goals in like 57 games. Think it was 8 goals.

The lad from Elversberg in linked to Union Berlin, Wolfsburg, Frankfurt, Villarreal, Anderlecht, Celtic, and clubs in Italy and France.

Skytta seems a decent option but not much info on him other than averages about 8-9 goals a season as a 10.

He only signed in the summer after St Etienne took up his option to purchase. There doesn't seem to be a clause on whether they were relegated I base this on his agent's claim that he is looking to invoke the ruling for Lassana Diarra in 2024 where he terminated his contract, whilst paling in Russia and that club wouldn't release his contract. ECJ got involved and found in his favour. issue is that the ruling was about terminating a contract without 'just cause'.

so he will have to pay a termination fee as the new club can't automatically be claimed against any more. so if he doesn't have 'just cause' to terminate it does that sound like the paperwork supported him terminating?
would we think the same if we sign him and in 18 months time another club want him, won't match our fee and he just terminates again?

Pierre Ekwah a 6 who can play CB linked to us today. Think I'd avoid this lad based on the drama he's just been involved in.

Spent last season on loan at St Etienne from Sunderland. They activated his buy option for €6m but he had asked them not to because of their relegation to ligue 2. They didn't listen so he refused to even turn up for pre-season training and then terminated his contract with them. Currently in a labour tribunal with them.

Rangers Review article today stating that Rothwell will leave and that Rangers are prioritising a "metronomic" number 6 as they think it will make a massive difference to the side and a wide playmaker who can come centrally similar to what Moore does but also solid out wide.

Also expected to go after a LB and players who have been getting minutes are not expected to leave (Aasgard, Chermiti, Danilo, Gassama, etc). Matondo, Dowell and Rothwell the main ones expected to leave and it's "believed" we're unlikely to go for a CF or CB and that 3 or 4 will come in.

Guess Miovski isn't a long term injury, I'd still get another striker as Danilo is a 10 or a second striker and would only work as a false 9 by himself but we don't have goal scoring midfielders or wingers.

We need a CB unless Nsiala will get game time or the 6 will sit in front of the defence or drop into make a 3 similar to how Gio played. We desperately need a CM player who can spot and make a pass or dribble past players as we've lost all creativity with Hagi and Cerny leaving.

So the logic on the CB situation is Souttar is expected back in the next fortnight, Cornelius will be back in the new year as well, Sterling, Tav, Fernandez and Djiga can all play there.

As for the CF position we have 3 and it appears unless interest mounts in one of them then we aren't going to go with 4 strikers. The main issue is chance creation and decision making hence the 6 and wide playmaker being prioritised.

I mean what they say and what happens could be 2 totally different things. I'm actually surprised by this as I'd make Raskin or Barron our 6 and get a midfielder that likes a goal in as we lack this massively and don't see either of those 2 adding this to their game.

All those positions mentioned would be nice to have but if we don't go and get a decent centre half and even more importantly a decent striker as a priority the second half of the season will be as bad as the first half. Miovski looks as if he has found a bit of form but Danilo is hopeless and Chermiti is worse.

We have four centre backs that can't be trusted and the other with a long term injury so we need experienced cover.
What is a wide playmaker anyway? What we need is an attacking midfielder with a wee bit of devilment in his game like Cantwell showed when he first signed.

While I agree that we should be looking at a rock solid centre half, it's interesting to note that our goals against column shows we have conceded 13 goals in 15 games, the same as the league leaders and only two more than the scum. That doesn't point towards a leaky defence at SPFL level to me!

BBJ I agree with what you're saying to a degree re Barron and Raskin but it's claimed that Rohl sees them as more of the 8 type and they've been described as "hybrid 6's".

Rohl is looking for a 6 that dictates play and can win his duels whilst protecting the back 4.

L-Mac it is their opinion some of it and I'm sure I read others they say are from sources in the club.

I do think every player has their price in this squad but unless we get silly bids for Gassama, Raskin etc they will all stay and unless we're at least making our money back on the likes of Antman, Aasgaard they will stay as well.

Wsl a wide playmaker is basically a player similar to Mikey Moore. Who starts out wide but drifts in field allowing a wing back to overlap but is technically strong and creative.

So not necessarily your traditional winger that is a great crosser and pacey. It's more about intelligent positioning and creating opportunities to assist and score.

Basically a 10 that plays wider to put it simply.

It's just another way of over-complicating football and probably comes from football manager lol.

The boy is lazy at times. Does not track back when he should. It doesn't matter what the rest of team do.

If we got 6m for the 2 of them and the chance to reinvest then seems decent business. There's others I would prefer to go before Gassama but we need to consider offers if they come in. Tav123 might just be a deal that suits everyone, Rohl has started him in nearly all his games over the last few seasons.

John i am sure you mentioned some players potentially had precontracts agreed to join us, are these still on, were they Thelwell targets and do you think we might pay to get them in Jan?

The defence should be priority not selling wingers mid season when we have none.

At Sheffield Weds he was in open games. No one put 10 men behind the ball! He had plenty room to run into and stretch defences. His best performances for us have been IMO in Europe where the above is applicable. He's rotten in tight spaces, a head down runner, and if you deny him space you take the one thing in his armoury away, pace! He's not suited to our league.

He's no better than Matondo just more available, both good for a screamer but consistently poor all round.

I think it would be a mistake selling him for such little amount.
What's 5 million in today's game it's literally pocket change in England and Spain.
Also need to remember the full team has been struggling not just Gassama.
Get him better quality players beside him and he could be a real asset who we could sell for way more than that.

I don't think many teams park the bus, play 10 behind the ball, or whatever we are calling it, against us anymore. I feel most teams now are confident of getting something from us so have a go knowing we are likely to crumble.

I don't believe he plays even that well against the European teams, as evidenced the other night after getting hooked for having a stinker. So for me, Gassama just isn't that good, and no harm John, but that's an awful lot of things he needs to fix to be worth 10m. Think we paid about right for him so anything north of that and bite their hand off for it.

Gassama is far too greedy with the ball and always looks to shoot when there's options plus he goes down far too easy and dives too much and when things don't go his way, he doesn't try and goes on a mood. Dundee United is a prime example got into fantastic positions then instead of a pass or a cross, he looked for a shot and eventually gave the ball away, he should be more like Saka and getting into the box by the goal line and causing havoc but he stops.

Dado we have none on the boil and I agree there are others we should prioritise for sure but if someone offers the £5m we take it as I don't see him kicking on in our league as L-Mac is right, he isn't suited to playing against the set ups in our league and certainly doesn't suit him as he is a headless chicken 99.99% of the time.

For me it's honestly no issue as long as the money we get for him is invested back into that position.

2 1/2 times profit for a player some fans don't rate is surely good business after 6 months to then reinvest and get the next 2 1/2 times profit but hopefully this time we can get the players who drive us forward on the pitch as well.

I like Gassama as a player but it just hasn't worked out yet.

I think Oumar Camara might have been the pick of PSG kids over Gassama. He scored the winner today. Think he is four in last 5 games for Vitoria Guimares out in Portugal now. A goal and assist last week to evict Porto in a QF cup tie in Porto in a 3-1 victory. After a slow start breaking his way into starting line up, he looks to be making a real name for himself even at only 18.

Pity that deal was cancelled as that must have felt like a a real coup for Koppen at the time. Another one with a bright future that could have been. What were they thinking?

I think Gassama could be a good player for us, but is being brought done by the lack of quality in the team as a whole. I would keep him.

Perhaps we should try to cut our losses with Chermiti. We may be better to sell now rather than wait until the add one are close to being triggered, depending on what they are.

I am not bashing Tav. Butcher, Gough, Greig, Ferguson all had their time. Tav has had his. We don't need a re-build, we need a sign of intent that allows us to move on from that disastrous summer.

Don't think there is anyone that I would want to keep now. We've got to remember that the players that were here prior to Thelwell weren't good enough and joke is they are the ones that look the better options in the squad.

My view on Gassama is that £5m is good profit now on a player that I'm not convinced will become a £10M+ player. Hopefully some of this will help off-set Chermiti loss when it comes as we will struggle to get £1M nevermind £8M.

I had high hopes for Rothwell but if we can make our money back then free's up a wage to help invest in a new defence I'd bite your hand-off.

Agree on that point. So if 4 aren't being used, get rid but don't bring 4 in. Especially squad fillers or loans. What we are doing isn't working. So build a team for long term not a season then sell at a profit hopefully. Gough etc better captains than Tav had their time, so move him on.

No one in that team deserves to be Captain. Ferguson had Abertz, Reyna and Gio, Amuruzo, Numan, Klos to deal witth. So some intent about a serious rebuild instead of constant quantity over quality. Some want 7.5 for Gas man. Man I'm seriously out of touch. 😳.

Most teams still play the low block, what they do is quick at counter attack. Unfortunately we are too slow to transition into an effective counter attack when theirs breaks down allowing them to get back into their defensive shape.
