At Ibrox today there was solid chat that the board, through Wilson, have indicated to the manager that at least five players need to be removed from the wage bill as squad size was part of the budget deal to bring in a host of new players. Names were speculation, but the obvious favourites were there, Simpson, Helander, Katic, Middleton, Sakala, McCrorie, Roofe etc.
That could be about right, I guess, as our fully fit squad could number quite a bit over 30.

1.) 23 Jul 2022 21:02:43
It's getting teams to take these players off our hands that's going be the test. Helander and Roofe are surplus requirements but who will buy them due to injury worries? Simpson and Middleton couldn't be given away in a lucky bag and Katic wasn't even wanted in his own country after his loan deal.

2.) 23 Jul 2022 21:11:03
Katic wasn't wanted in his own country because we wanted 2 to 3 million for him sweep have faith in the board they will get the dead wood out I would keep sakala he's rough round the edges good player but worth keeping.

3.) 23 Jul 2022 21:16:46
If we want to move some players loans would be the best way forward to do this
If that is our transfer business finished regarding incoming still feel we are very light up top and need at least one more striker in the door even with morelos and roofe still to come back.

4.) 23 Jul 2022 21:25:45
I'd keep sakala also. Very rough but will still contribute at least 10 goals over the season.

5.) 23 Jul 2022 22:06:33
I think it's pretty certain Katic, Simpson, Middleton will be gone don't really bring anything to the squad.

6.) 23 Jul 2022 22:08:39
tavsonloyal, you had me till you mentioned a fully fit squad.
We must have the biggest treatment room in football!

7.) 23 Jul 2022 22:28:25
Simpson
Katic
Kelly
Middleton

2 of Kamara, Roofe or Sakala later in the window

Hopefully providing a space/ budget to get in another striker, and still think we have a marque signing up our sleeve

Cannot believe we are getting in Yilmaz in for £11k per week

Great business.

8.) 23 Jul 2022 22:35:02
If they needed to removed they wouldn't have signed all those players.

9.) 23 Jul 2022 22:49:20
HWG55 sakala ain’t going anywhere.

10.) 23 Jul 2022 23:36:32
You all have short memories katic was playing well before the fall out with goldson. Even today it was apparent how bad a defender goldson is. Our problem last year was defense not attack. And same again goldson rubbish in the air. People seem to forget Katic was on verge of the Croatian national team before fall out Stephen RFC clubs in Croatia have even less cash than spl and you think they can splash 3 million ? man.

11.) 24 Jul 2022 00:02:59
Kamara has been amazing all pre season be a huge loss.

12.) 24 Jul 2022 00:26:35
I want us to keep Kamara, he's too good and only getting better.

13.) 24 Jul 2022 00:43:15
First time poster here, helander and sakala are not surplus to requirements in my eyes - helander is an excellent defender and sakala goals to minutes ratio is fine with me considering last season was his first. We have brought in some quality signings which i would say have left us stronger than last season, especially with yilmaz to come in to give us two expetional left backs. Roofe is another good player but if he is sold i think we could make another signing to replace. I think gio has an idea of what he wants and i think the board will give him what he wants. watp.

14.) 24 Jul 2022 01:52:18
Very clear Wright and Matondo are ahead of Sakala in getting game time after seeing the line ups and subs today

Goldson, Souttar, Davies, Sands, Helander, King are all ahead of Katic and Simpson in getting game time

Having too many players around the team not getting a game sometimes creates a poisonous atmosphere as they just get the s**ts

It’s time to get a bunch of this squad moved on and out the door.

15.) 24 Jul 2022 01:55:10
Great to see Kamara being played as a one of the holding CMs today, but we are better when Jack is in there in my opinion

Clear that both Lawrence and Tillman will be preferred over Kamara in that AM role

He has been awesome for us, but I feel his ceiling sell on value is now as I don’t feel he will play as often as he has this season as he played last season.

16.) 24 Jul 2022 04:52:23
I know Gio has said our business is almost done, however I think if we can get Into the CL group stages, a lot of the above mentioned players will be off loaded on the cheap and atleast 1 other player signed given the financial boost (hopefully a striker) . This is pure gut with no claims of inside knowledge etc.

17.) 24 Jul 2022 08:34:36
Gofor you seem to forget how bad katic
Is with his ball at his feet he is not good enough
To take us forward and never will be unfortunately all you remember him doing is scoring against Celtic.

18.) 24 Jul 2022 08:36:21
Common mate, katic nowhere near the level of connor goldson! For the record i thought goldson played well against the class opposition of spurs yesterday ? Also remember there's a new partnership in it's infancy between goldson and souttar getting formed and also will be with ben davies when he comes into the fold ?These things take time and patience so give them a chance and get behind the guys!

19.) 24 Jul 2022 08:41:15
Sakala worth keeping?
The only quality he has is an unbelievable ability to over run with the ball.
Absolute garbage.

20.) 24 Jul 2022 09:15:10
Don't mince your words Craigmp ?.

21.) 24 Jul 2022 09:15:19
I was talking to Ross Wilson's brother in law yesterday and he says that he is still looking at players and is back in Scotland next week. Wilson stays in Huddersfield but travels all over looking at players and is in Scotland next week. I have no doubt he'll want players out the door but the guy is pretty active in recruitment right now.

22.) 24 Jul 2022 09:38:15
Katic wasn’t playing good and there was no fall out with goldson haha goldson is night and day better than Katic at every aspect of defending.

23.) 24 Jul 2022 09:38:49
Problem is who'd take on there wage. I'd keep roofe as iv said he'll net 10/ 15 goals and we need to make sure we have cover up front.

24.) 24 Jul 2022 10:24:12
Livibear ross wilson actually walked past us yesterday heading to the bill struth main stand front doors ?We all couldn't believe how small in height he was ?.

25.) 24 Jul 2022 10:25:25
There will be outgoing, and one mb two significant incoming.

26.) 24 Jul 2022 10:46:31
John25, that's encouraging news, especially the outgoings.
Will it be loans to buy mate? just to initially ease the wage bill and squad size?
Clues on the incomings?

27.) 24 Jul 2022 11:56:05
I would retain Helander and Middleton as we need left footers. Middleton will be on low wages and can do a turn in a few positions. Helander should be allowed to get fit. Roofe, not sure, it would depend on whether the mental trouble rumours are true. Sakala, Katic, Simpson should be sold or released.

28.) 24 Jul 2022 12:07:36
No storm I remember him not being affraid to tackle you know like goldson was against kane yesterday and remember him not being affraid to risk everything to block a shot or cross . you know like goldson never did in final. and remember him taking responsibility you know like goldson never does in fact always throws his hands up and blames others you know like he did in final with our youngest defender on park the guy that was sold for 20 odd million and man of the match ? goldson is rubbish in air does not take responsibility is too slow only thing he seems to be good at is long diagonals and pointing the finger and errh quitting at half time in a match ?.

29.) 24 Jul 2022 13:54:03
Would love liam delap on loan from man city that would be something else even until January.

30.) 24 Jul 2022 14:27:59
Hahahahahaha yeah katic is amazing CH z that’s why all those clubs are willing to buy him ??? thanks for cheering me up this fine Sunday.

31.) 24 Jul 2022 14:28:37
GVB a Southampton trying to buy him for 16 million don’t know if city have accepted it or not.

32.) 24 Jul 2022 15:25:06
Mcminn how do u release players with years left on contract. You cant.

01 Jun 2022 13:51:23
McGregor signs for another year.

tavsonloyal

1.) 01 Jun 2022 14:12:12
Think that ones a wind up mate.

2.) 01 Jun 2022 14:16:32
And balogun no doubt….

3.) 01 Jun 2022 14:34:59
Rumour just proved to be garbage. Sorry folks.

4.) 01 Jun 2022 14:53:49
Nearly as good as van Persia as player coach, retired two tears ago.

5.) 01 Jun 2022 15:04:01
He has signed 1 year extension.

6.) 01 Jun 2022 15:24:33
Great News, Goldson has signed a four year extension. I'm delighted with this news. It would have cost us upwards of £4m to sign a replacement and even one of the top Bosman's that is available would cost us a pretty penny and in all the alternative scenarios there would be a bedding in period! Of all of the existing players that were at the end of their contract Goldson was the main one for me.

7.) 01 jun 2022 16:15:36
i agree bb, i think he will have a great partnership with soutter.

8.) 01 Jun 2022 16:30:09
Nothing official on mcgregor.

11 May 2022 22:18:31
I believe there are three places up for grabs in Seville now. Our back five (including Greegs) is an automatic pick, along with Aribo, Kent and Lundstram. You could make a case for another six or seven, but who knows what Gio will decide? Interesting thought.

tavsonloyal

1.) 11 May 2022 23:20:05
For me it will be same as last match. Think only change could be Scott wright.

2.) 12 May 2022 05:46:25
If jacko is fit he most definitely plays against frankfurt also tavsonloyal 🤔.

3.) 12 May 2022 05:54:09
Lowry for wright would be my only change.

4.) 12 May 2022 06:30:53
Is it too big a game for Lowry at this point, I know Frankfurt are a far bigger test than county but I thought the kid strolled it last night, he’s going to be massive for us.

5.) 12 May 2022 06:33:02
Is jack injured or being rested? He will play if he's being rested.

6.) 12 May 2022 09:13:16
Paul I'd love to see him and lundstrum playing in both finals, those two work great together.

7.) 12 May 2022 09:56:52
Injured Paul, but Gio says good chance for Seville.

8.) 12 May 2022 10:39:20
Jack is injured. Gio said last night better chance of making it than roofe.

9.) 12 May 2022 11:28:13
Big decisions for gvb next week, we need players not only fit but also with match sharpness, not sure I'd play roofe even if he is fit, he'd be lacking match sharpness.

10.) 12 May 2022 11:32:06
Just seen john gio said he should be available. Great news.

11.) 12 May 2022 12:00:35
Jack is a big one if fit. Be interesting to see what he does around Ramsey and Roofe as that’s the big decision.

Then between Sakala and Wright possibly.

12.) 12 May 2022 12:15:17
Gio might well spring a surprise or two for this game. i'm not sure that Wright will get a start in fact the Manchester United might be thrown in!

13.) 12 May 2022 12:56:13
Coops, I agree all the way about Jacko, I just feared he wouldn't make it but it seems he might after all. That's nine starters. The last two places I think will go to either Ramsey, Roofe, Sakala or Wright, depending on fitness calls.

14.) 12 May 2022 13:31:41
Tavs. I believe kamara starts.

15.) 12 May 2022 14:25:28
If roofes no fit fur the final i'd hope we get rid end of season we can't afford 1st aiders.

16.) 12 May 2022 14:55:01
We will so would u also get rid helander Jack

Roofe has many more minutes than Jack.

20 Apr 2022 01:27:43
Speaking to a young Dutch winger who is available on a Bosman? Any ideas?

tavsonloyal

1.) 20 Apr 2022 07:16:40
Is it the boy from Leeds perhaps? Summerville? I think he might have another year right enough.

2.) 20 Apr 2022 09:23:52
Really hope we sign summerville.

3.) 21 Apr 2022 09:26:57
Headless chicken no thanks 🇬🇧🇬🇧.

15 Apr 2022 20:16:55
Just got this txt from an old friend:
"I was down the football ground today and the story is that if we get promotion we're coming after your captain to lead Bournemouth. Last night confirmed to Scott Parker that Tavernier would be an ideal signing, great age, great player and we'll get him for about £7m. "

Now all this is totally a rumour but that's the story, guys.

tavsonloyal

1.) 15 Apr 2022 21:15:54
6 goals 2 assists 11 games in europa league 1nd his stats in the league say it all think it would cost just over 12 million for any team to get tav.

2.) 15 Apr 2022 21:27:02
Plausible however I think we could get a bit more based on his goals and assists.

3.) 15 Apr 2022 21:35:20
Would 7m be enough? I know he is 30 but I would be looking for slightly more than the 7.

4.) 15 Apr 2022 21:52:17
My record (for an ex-journalist) isn't great for rumours, and I do agree he is worth more than this. It actually came from someone who knows the Redknapp family well, which is the only bit of this wee story I know to be factual.

5.) 15 Apr 2022 21:59:38
Can’t see us parting with Tav for £7m. I know he’s 30 and that’s decent money for someone of his age but how much would you need to buy someone to reproduce what he does in this day and age? I’d be holding out until it entered the ‘stupid money’ stage where we don’t have an option to refuse. Not sure he would want to go either?

6.) 15 Apr 2022 22:31:26
£10m minimum or get lost!

7.) 15 Apr 2022 23:05:13
They maybe want him but can't see it. Not nearly enough for rangers and he's not going to want a relegation battle. Don't think he's pushing to leave either.

8.) 15 Apr 2022 23:54:24
Lol NOBODY has bid anything for Tavernier in all his time at Rangers but someone did buy another RB who wrongly sat on the bench for 2 years for £12m.

Now if Tavernier is so good then why did nobody bid £12 for him? .

He is shocking defensively and that is quite a major part of being a RB believe it or not.

Nobody is going to pay 8,10 or anything like £12 for him to ship you goals every week in the EPL! He gets the p. taken out of him by Ross County!

9.) 16 Apr 2022 07:02:00
Craigmp same is said about most modern full backs now even trent at Liverpool. Its the role he plays being asked to attack more than defend. How much was wan bisaka, Shaw etc even kyle walker gets questioned defensively. Its the gamble u get with attacking full backs and Tav more than makes up for errors with goals an assists incredible.

10.) 16 Apr 2022 07:23:13
Craigmp are you sweep in disguise.

11.) 16 Apr 2022 09:59:44
Craigmp, that's quite easy to work out pal as everton paid as much for young nathan patterson because of his age and undoubted potential 🤔
Tavernier is better than nathan patterson at the moment plain and simple for me pal! I'm not saying that young patterson can't go on to be better than tav, but i could never understand why some wanted us just to drop tav and try and sell him just because patterson was a good young, upcoming talent 🤔 It's about biding your time and without a doubt tav deserved to stay as our no.1 right back with stats that he's got🤔 absolute no brainer 👌.

12.) 16 Apr 2022 10:23:24
Tav is not shocking defensively.

13.) 16 Apr 2022 10:51:13
We will miss Tav massively when he goes. The number of goals and assists he gives us will be very difficult to replace.

He does make the odd mistake at the back but the number of goals he contributes to more than makes up for that.

14.) 16 Apr 2022 11:12:47
Think we would take 7 million with his age, Although I'd rather keep him until we settle our back four. I'd keep borna bassey balogun Tav recall katic get rid of Simpson helander and get a top quality replacement for goldson.

15.) 16 Apr 2022 12:28:16
Bournemouth have about as big a fan base as Auchinleck Talbot. Unless they offered ridiculous wages i think our Captain would tell them where to go.

16.) 16 Apr 2022 13:43:07
AC21, I believe Bournemouth already pay at least two players more than £50k a week, that's more than double what we pay Tavernier. For the last three years or whatever of his paying career, that sort of money would be a huge enticement. He's not an international, he's now 30, he's a good pro who would look to take care of himself and his family as best he can. The crowds mean nothing.

17.) 16 Apr 2022 14:34:59
Exactly tavsonloyal, it’s money in bank that counts
Look what Defoe was on.

18.) 16 Apr 2022 15:08:39
Craig I feel tavernier has improved defensively and as much as I like Patterson 2 different managers have preferred tavernier so he must be doing something right.

19.) 16 Apr 2022 18:00:27
It's as clear as day to me bgate w that at this moment in time tavernier is better than patterson 🤔.

20.) 16 Apr 2022 18:42:57
For his age 7 million would be a great deal for us we ain’t getting much more 12 million is just ludicrous.

21.) 16 Apr 2022 20:35:06
We won't be getting anything for tav stormtrooper because i can't see tav leaving rangers anytime soon and i for one am glad mate 👍.

22.) 17 Apr 2022 08:29:24
I wouldn't sell tav and Tav isn't going to want to leave.

23.) 17 Apr 2022 11:54:16
We surely don't sell Patterson if any doubts over Tav long term but 7m wouldn't be enough and he's 1 we need to keep with such a big rebuild about to start.

24.) 17 Apr 2022 23:09:49
Tav for me is irreplaceable! He was our best attacking option going forward on Thursday night as well as having a generally decent game at the back. £7m doesn’t cut it for me, and before I get shot down for having blue tinted glasses on, I value Tav more than Kent, just look at the stats. Tav joint top goal scorer in EL this season, and he is a defender.

A wee question, guys. Can anyone tell me who, right now, is the oldest living Ranger?

tavsonloyal

1.) 22 Jul 2022 17:27:39
The Queen???.

2.) 22 Jul 2022 17:34:49
Mph ?.

3.) 22 Jul 2022 17:36:41
Brilliant mph.

4.) 22 Jul 2022 17:39:50
That would be my dad's old pal, the wee Prime Minister, Ian McMillan. 91 years old I believe.

5.) 22 Jul 2022 17:47:03
I was told that, Seeker, but I thought there might have been someone older. Maybe not, then.

6.) 22 Jul 2022 17:49:14
The oldest living Ranger are awe deid.

7.) 22 Jul 2022 17:51:55
I thought it was Willie Rae, who would be 98, unless he passed away in the past year or so?

8.) 22 Jul 2022 18:16:36
Davie weir.

9.) 22 Jul 2022 18:55:29
John25.

10.) 22 Jul 2022 21:55:04
You are bang on Tavson. Willie Rae is still alive and is 98 as you say. Well done ?.

11.) 23 Jul 2022 00:44:32
Thank you Seeker, you've just saved me a tenner! Willie Rae, older than Her Majesty and our oldest Ranger.

31 May 2022 18:45:15
Steven Davis has signed for another year. I'm delighted because he brings so much to the whole set-up and can still produce the goods. A real Ranger.

tavsonloyal

1.) 31 May 2022 20:21:42
Great news. Will be great for younger players.

2.) 31 May 2022 20:22:35
I see him more as someone that will be primarily used as back up with his real benefit being in the dressing room and helping to settle in new players. We need to be signing younger players of the quality that Davis was a few years ago. Same with McGregor and Arfield.

3.) 31 May 2022 20:48:22
Brutal, not the start of the transfer window I was expecting. If the squad isn’t freshened up with actual quality then this is going to be a tough season after what we just had.

4.) 31 May 2022 21:11:08
We likely won’t be making signings u til we know who is leaving.
We can’t go out and buy player x when we don’t know which positions we will have to replace and which will be most important. I’d be surprised to see any players for the next 2 weeks at least unless free transfers.

Gk and cb are the 2 positions we need to replace most, along with a back up striker to alfie.
I suspect the next 2/ 3 weeks will be for seing who leaves and who signs new contracts and once that’s sorted we will know what we need to do.
Have patience and trust in the club. We’ve just won the Scottish cup and played in a European final unlucky to lose it may I add. Lost the league by 4 points also which isn’t anything to be disgraced by as Celtic are a good side and we had a long hard season due to Europe.
I think we’re in a great place atm amd we can’t win the league every season man. Chill out.

5.) 31 May 2022 21:21:08
Davis 10k a week to help people settle in, his wages would have been better utilised to buy player the quality you refer to.

6.) 31 May 2022 21:36:31
Great news, Davis can still perform at the top level consistently.

7.) 31 May 2022 21:54:36
The window isn’t even open yet.

8.) 31 May 2022 22:03:03
Totally agree, being sentimental won't win trophies. Time for young, energetic blood.

9.) 31 May 2022 22:06:55
So Davis is not quality? What are you talking about. You can't just empty a squad. Youth with experience. A blended mix is required. Stop being negative.

10.) 31 May 2022 22:22:27
When I read that Gio believes Davis and arfield are valuable helping new players transition into the squad and know what it's all about to okay for us. Then that is a great but of management.

11.) 01 Jun 2022 08:13:00
Joking we r entitled to our opinion r we not.

03 May 2022 17:52:04
During my ins and outs at Ibrox in the 90s I got to know Jimmy Bell and, like most people, at first I thought he was a grumpy, crabbit wee sod - until I realised he was just testing me out and, like all the rest, I found out that he had a heart of gold, a wicked sense of humour and loved all who loved the Rangers. But sneakily leaving dirty kit on the laundry floor always got you a swearing! Irreplaceable.

01 May 2022 16:20:16
Just back from my first visit to the piggery this century (last time was 1999) and, at my age, probably my last. It would have been brilliant to see a win but I'm claiming a moral victory after a great second half from a depleted Rangers team. On now to Thursday when we have bigger fish to fry.
When the manager gets to work over the summer and brings in his own players (i suspect at least four starters plus a few with potential) we will soon have the league trophy back home.

tavsonloyal

1.) 01 May 2022 16:47:41
I hope you are correct on the new players and that they are all GVB first choices! As for going to the Piggery, I sopped doing that many years ago. I found that whole area pretty horrid.

2.) 01 May 2022 16:57:34
Claiming a moral victory while we win the title. lol.

3.) 01 May 2022 17:15:44
Take your Micky mouse 2 horse race title and wee will enjoy going to seville and winning there and bringing back a proper elite trophy that will put us back in the big time.

4.) 01 May 2022 17:37:53

Stopped you winning it against us at home though! Enjoy borrowing our title, mind give it back next season! I know you will be busy as usual making excuses for being pumped out of European football, wouldn't it be nice for Rangers to now go eclipse your league win with. our achievements in Europe 🤣🤣🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧.

A boy with great potential who never really made it over the final hurdle to being a top pro. He is now what he is and that's not for Rangers, sadly.

OT, there are lateral thinkers and there are literal thinkers. We seem to have an abundance of the latter.

Storm, it's when temporary poor form becomes permanent that I worry about and in the past months that's where I see Barisic. We will need a second left back, that's for certain, for a 70 game season.

The boy Leidner is just out of his teens, has very little experience of higher level football and, while he might be a prospect, he wouldn't be a straight and immediate replacement for Bassey.

Roofe, a far better footballer. But I'm probably not experienced enough to have a say, having only watched Rangers since 1959, worked at the club, written about the club, also a shareholder and season ticket holder.

GVB why have we been paying him for four years when he joined us just under two years ago? We've actually paid him £2.5m in wages, no need to exaggerate the issue, even if it is time for us to offload him. I think the manager has already washed his hands of Roofe.

Score was 3-2 after going 2-0 down and missing a penalty, it appears.

Starting X1 not in any order: McCrorie Davies King Davis Sands Devine Jack Wright Sakala Arfield Tillman. Subs: Wright (GK) Kelly McCann Katic Middleton Zukowski Fraser Lovelace McCausland.
Still trying to find out score.

I've come to the conclusion that, apart from wee spells here and there, Barisic does not have the mental toughness to be considered a first choice Rangers player. Sad, because he brings some decent qualities, but they are not enough to make up for a lack of mental fortitude apparent against better opposition.
